We need another Bill Clinton

Democrats need to return to ''It's the economy stupid'' path again

ideological purists can get lost

Warren is the wrong person for the job, keep dreaming lefty-lefts

The turn on Hillary on Gaf was so swift.

All the people with legitimate criticisms of her and how she ran her campaign basically got a green light after last nights debacle.

And no we don't need another Clinton, what we need is someone with Trump's charisma but without the social issues he bring along with a real plan for fixing the issues of our country. Who knows when we'll see someone like that get far enough in the current system to actually win.

Easier to blame Hillary than accept large swathes of the country share similar beliefs to Trump.

I mean, you walk outside today...that guy who makes your coffee might have voted Trump because he hates how whites have been allegedly marginalising and what of the guy who makes your sandwich, maybe he thinks women are just objects who should always be subservient to men and their desires.

Or that guy who makes your coffee might just be a fucking guy who makes your coffee? I get disappointment but mass projection right now isn't helping anyone.

Hillary and the Democrats deserve a portion of the blame. They have failed, and while the people unfortunately decided that, ultimately it's their campaign that lost. So to answer this topic title in this topic, no we don't need another Bill Clinton. Right now we need nothing to do with the Clintons, or Clinton-esque. Pray Michelle Obama feels the need to come up now, or someone more like Obama.

OP this is the same kind of thinking that lost us the presidency last night. You can't out identity-politic a demagogue like Trump. Bernie won important rust belt swing and rural areas of states in the primary that Dems needed to beat Trump soundly. Those people did not to come out to vote for H last night. You need a progressive populist to beat an authoritarian populist.

There are a lot of powerful middle aged women in politics, putting Michelle on a pedestal is ridiculous.

Kirsten Gillibrand is a way younger, attractive senator from NY. She's also a pretty good speaker. We could see a Gillibrand/Booker ticket in 2020.

I love how you felt this was important to address.

Sigh.

For those concerned about having a first female president, you have to understand that Michelle Obama is our last shot at one that we'll get in this generation. Vote for her if you live in electorate she will run for, and hope for the best in 2024 or 2028. No woman will have a shot at higher office without having first been connected to a powerful and well loved man. That's just the way America is.

This is just bullshit

Incredible.

Centrists lose precisely with a 3rd way type of politics, and some still believe they need to do more of the same.

And they ask of minorities to quiet down their demands.

The arrogance.

What you're doing is what always happens when something like this happens, don't label people, don't make them feel unwelcome or alienate them. Let's try to understand why they acted the way did. There's nothing beyond the surface, they voted out of hate, they voted out of irrational fears of the other.

Hell, I'd argue this is precisely why they continue to thrive under the surface, these people rely on people who make excuses for them, turn a blind eye and try to pin the blame on anyone other the the actual people who are fucking shit up.

The turn on Hillary on Gaf was so swift.

As an outsider from Canada, the Hilary supporters in here were extremely obnoxious, and seeing the turn is just typical sheep mentality. I've seen people on GAF being banned for starting arguments by expressing these same opinions about Clinton. People should've taken the Trump threat more seriously.

Best wishes.

lol, fuck the Clintons. Fuck the whole idea of these presumptive nominees based on family ties. It's clearly not going to work, people are sick and tired of being told to fall in line in return for empty promises by career politicians with clear ulterior motives.

Democrats don't need to focus on reclaiming the disgruntled and racist working class, they need to focus on the youth and getting them to vote. For that they'll need a charismatic leader that inspires. The Dems had that with Bernie Sanders, and they shunned him in favour of a corporate lapdog with shady ties to Wall Street.

Fuck that noise.

I fucking hate that democrats first instinct after a major loss is to say we need to run to the fucking right next time.

If we should learn anything from the republicans it is that we should stick to our positions and slowly fucking drag the country kicking and screaming with us. If that means we spend a decade here and there in the political wilderness looking like fucking idiots than so be it. We should also abandon any of that feel good high road bullshit the Obama's pushed. We need to get in the fucking mud and get fucking dirty like the republicans do if we want to accomplish permanent progress.

What are you suggesting then, when you get your starbucks tomorrow interrogate the person serving you? Unless you go on the offence you can't tell what 99% of people vote/believe in unless THEY somehow display behaviour to suggest (or tell you).

I don't think it's the candidate as much as the message. People are tired of hearing about racism, no guns and sexism only. You gotta resonate with white people and their problems as well, which includes none of that in certain areas

That's not to say we ignore racism or whatever. More that we also need a strong message that resonates with the entire country. Obama had this with "change." Bernie had this with tipping the table into more socialist policy. Gotta take a strong stand and appeal to larger groups and ignite passion
