An Important Notice from the Superior Court of the State of California, County of San Mateo, United States and from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Canada, About a Class Action Settlement Involving the PS2

IF YOU OWN A PS2, YOU COULD GET BENEFITS FROM THE SETTLEMENT.

A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit concerning the performance of the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system ("PS2"). You may be a member of the Class whose rights may be affected by this lawsuit. The sole purpose of this notice is to inform you of the lawsuit so that you may decide what steps to take in relation to it.

If the settlement is approved, Class Members who complete and return a Claim Form, on or before February 16, 2006, may be eligible to receive settlement benefits. The claim form may be accessed at www.PS2Settlement.com or obtained from the PS2 Settlement Administrator, c/o Rust Consulting, Inc., PO Box 1784, Faribault MN 55021-1784.

Whether you are entitled to benefits will depend upon which subclass you are in. You may also choose to exclude yourself from the settlement. There are deadlines associated with the choices you may make regarding the settlement, and the last day to submit completed claim forms, to object to the settlement or to opt out is February 16, 2006. More information describing your rights under the settlement, as well as instructions for filing a claim may be accessed by contacting the Settlement Administrator. To contact the Settlement Administrator, please access the website at www.PS2Settlement.com, call toll-free 1-800-352-5331, or write PS2 Settlement Administrator, c/o Rust Consulting, Inc., PO Box 1784, Faribault MN 55021-1784.

I can't believe there was a suit over this. Don't people have better/more important things to do with their time?

What are the possible benefits of this settlement? (top)
If you are a Class Member who has experienced the alleged problems described above, and you return a completed claim form by the appropriate deadline, you could receive one of the following benefits:

* a check for $25 U.S. (or $31 Canadian); or
* one PS2 game from a specified list; or
* repair or replacement – at SCEA’s option – of a PS2 experiencing the above described alleged problems. That repair may be free for some members of the Recent Purchasers Subclass or may cost $41 ($51 Canada) for other members of that subclass as well as for members of the Repair Fee Subclass and the Loss of Use Subclass. You will need to pay the cost to ship the PS2 to and from SCEA’s authorized service provider. This benefit is subject to the service provider confirming that the PS2 has one of the alleged problems described above.

Depending on which subclass you are in, and the level of proof you submit, you may have the option to choose one benefit from among the choices. More specific information about how to tell which benefits you may be eligible for is found below.

A free game? If it isn't good, I can always use it for trade bait. Is this legit though or crap?
Who knows...i mean you don't need to do much i don't think, it's not like they are asking for credit card info...but still i'm not sure. I got the email today.

i havent had any DRE's either, except for the OPM demos. but demos are usually screwed so i'm not worried

the compensation is pretty shitty though. $25 or a free game? that's nothing. it's probably gonna be a GH game too

I tried to sign up for this, but you need the receipt, and need to have called Sony within 13 months of purchase. Hopefully something comes of this, so Sony can offer free repairs again, and they fucking learn for PS3.
