Nine Inch Nails.

Everything else I could care less about at the moment.

Fucking 5.1 TDS has me so pumped for the new album, which Trent is releasing in 5.1 right off the bat. Fuck Yeah!

Ween, The Wrens, The Raveonettes, The Decemberists, The Magnolia Electric Co., Optiganally Yours, Okkervil River, Hot Hot Heat, The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, M. Ward, Bright Eyes, The Perceptionists, Dressy Bessy, Goblin Cock, Bottom of the Hudson/Eli Simon solo (whichever it is released as), Stab Stab Cut Kill, Broken Social Scene, John Vanderslice, Xiu Xiu, Franz Ferdinand, Beehive & The Barracudas, Out Hud, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Over the Rhine, El-P/Camu Tao, A Frames, Low...

And that's just the stuff I know, and mostly all of it is out in the first half of the year. :(

Pretty much all of the above plus SPOON and Super Furry Animals (i really think this is gonna be fucking nuts by the sound of it).

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I see Ween, Radiohead and Flaming Lips listed here. Do they have new albums coming out next year? Please say yes.

If I'm remembering correctly, on this album, everyone in the band is going to sing songs (although I think Guto, the bassist, isn't) -- like how Bunf sang Sex, War and Robots on Phantom Power. I'm not sure if that means they're getting their equal share, or if Gruff is still going to do the majority of it (I figure Gruff's always going to be front and center). Nonetheless, exciting!

Gruff says of the album in the works, Our friends describe it as Steely Dan on crack.

Of working in Catalonia, Spain, he says, Everything seemed a little brighter there, and it rubbed off on the music.

Regarding music and messages, he notes, In an age where the Dixie Chicks are politiczed, it takes the pressure off us.

About the overall sound he remarked, We've had incredible fun experimenting with sounds, but we are still looking to make a record that sounds like a band playing a room together. We might get there this time

I mean, it's natural for me to be optimistic about a Super Furry Animals album at this point. But I've got a really good feeling about this one.

I also read something where Gruff said the Tetsuo movies influenced a couple of their new songs!

This thought keeps popping up in my mind, where The Flaming Lips and Super Furry Animals go on tour with each other sometime in 2005. I don't know, but for some reason I really feel this is going to happen. It just is.

Did I tell you that when I saw SFA last September, Wayne Coyne was in the audience? Yeah! That was pretty cool.

I hope so. The Lips definately like them and Kliph is always going on about how awesome they are so it wouldn't suprise me if they did tour together next year. In the FL photobook, there is a picture of Wayne wearing their yeti feet backstage during some European festival last summer. My friend invited me to see SFA last year but I had to miss it because of another friend's engagement party.

Earlier in the year Deaner said that Ween had gotten a bunch of new equipment, and once they figured it all out, they were going off to record some stuff, because "3 years between records is way too long." With the problems with one of the members nothing is for sure, but tentatively there should be a new full length sometime next summer/fall. There will positively be a new Chocodog release or two in 2005, as they missed this holiday. I wouldn't expect to hear anything for a while. I just hope they tour...

I really stopped following music a bit ago, but I am really looking forward to the new Nine Inch Nails album and Closure on DVD.

New Order has a new CD coming out?

I haven't been following upcoming releases very much. The only thing I'm aware of so far is Bright Eyes. I haven't heard anything about a new Radiohead album, but I'll certainly look forward to it if it's happening.

All I know is I've got Arcade Fire tickets for tonight.

Lambtron covered Ween above. The Lips have a new album (tentatively titled At War with the Mystics) due out sometime in the middle of next year. Early gossip had a new Radiohead album coming out late this year, but I guess that's proven false. Thom Yorke, the ever bizarre interviewee, has gone so far as to say there will not be any more albums -- only EPs and online releases. Radiohead's contract with their label is done, so they're free to effectively do whatever the hell they want. I imagine we'll at least hear something about what they plan on doing next year, even if we get no official releases. I (and many others) think they'll either start their own label or create a vanity imprint at an existing major that would allow them to record and sign with a ludicrous level of independence.

The Flaming Lips have a number of release next year. In addition to the the new album, At War with the Mystics, there is also going to be a Soft Bulletin 5.1 DVD release. There are few details about its contents but it'll probably have a bunch of extras and videos like the Yoshimi 5.1 DVD. Then there is the Christmas on Mars movie and soundtrack next December. I've heard a few songs from the soundtrack and its got some really great, eerie music on it. Finally, Bradley Beesley (close friend of theirs) is going to release a documentary on them called 'My Life With the Fearless Freaks' on March 23.

From what I've read recently, most of these extravagant ideas about Radiohead starting their own label, and creating only EP's are not going to happen. Thom and the rest of the band don't seem to have a problem with the way they've been treated by their current label EMI, so unless there're some major problems later on, I don't think they have any real reason to leave. They already have much more independence at their label than many "indie" bands do.

As for the next release, it's looking like it's going to be an album; Thom's said he was frustrated by the level of scrutiny albums get, hence what he said about making EP's, but he's been saying the same thing for years now. Yet we've still gotten albums. I don't think this time around will be any different, to be honest. Like I said before, there're rumors of a new album coming out in May 2005, but I'm not so sure if it'll be ready by then.

Yes, but before they HAD to put out albums, as per the terms of their now complete contract. And I'd personally be surprised if Radiohead didn't start it's own label, or a vanity at the very least. Maybe Radiohead's had a decent time with their labels (aside from them being rushed to get Pablo Honey out), but the sentiment on We Suck Young Blood is very anti-major label. It'd be way cool to see Thom and the gang take their complaints in that song one step further , creating a new label built around truly cultivating talent, and not pillaging and salting it.

That's a good point White Man, don't know how I overlooked that. I just think that they prefer the business aspect of their music to be as simple as possible, while still being as widely distributed as possible. I don't think they'd ever do an online-only release, because that would be too much of an exclusive thing.

I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Man, are you sure they weren't forced to put Hail to the Thief out? I mean, that album sucked so horribly, I can't even stand to listen to Radiohead anymore.

Such a shame, too. I really enjoyed Amnesiac and Kid A, so much. Things like Hail to the Thief sucking keep me up at night.

I feel like a huge hypocrite, because I had this really strong desire to listen to some Radiohead over dinner. In fact, I'm going to rip my entire Radiohead collection to my computer tonight -- just in case.

Is Peeping Tom really coming out?

First - I happen to like HttT, quite a bit.

Second- I'm fairly sure Patton is working on Peeping Tom still (with Dan The Automator) and it's scheduled for a 2005 release. On second thought, I'm not sure...?

[Pixies] Yeah, I wish :)

I've already heard Honeycomb (Frank Black), so Weezer for me.

Finally, in an interview with the St. Petersburg Times (Florida, USA), Frank was asked, "Are we getting a new album or what?". Unlike every other interview, the answer was not that they haven't thought about it. Rather, he said, "Yeah, I imagine so. Everyone is up for it. But everyone knows I can be kind of hyper, all "Let's go into the studio tonight after the gig!" I think I am smarter than that now. I know not to subject them to that kind of exhausting thing again. We're all waiting for the tour to end. We'll give each other a call and go hang out in the studio."

And about Honeycomb, I've heard it's been leaked on Soulseek for a while now, but I don't have Soulseek.

I don't see why Hail to the Thief takes so much shit. It's inarguably more consistent than Amnesiac. I don't think there's a bad tune on it, which is more than I could say for OKC, Kid A, or Amnesiac.

EDIT: Also, is new Frog Eyes this year or next? Because Frog Eyes deserves to be super popular.

Heck, about 75% of these bands with 'eyes' in their names deserve super popularity.

My most anticipated album is without a doubt Dr. Dre - Detox

Also, looking forward to:
50 cent - Valentines Day massacre
The Game – The documentary
Kanye West – Late Registration
New Lloyd Banks
New Obie Trice

Having admittedly never heard another Frog Eyes release, this one is pretty kick ass. Like the review says the first three tracks are fucking HOT. It's all pretty cool, though, and I was pretty impressed... and pissed for not going to see them, fuck I'm dumb.

Because it's boring, and Radiohead had never bored me up until that point. Hail to the Thief is one of those albums I listen to a couple times, out of forcing myself to, and forget about until five months later, when I once again feel guilty for not listening to it. But then I ask myself why I haven't listened to it, and I come to the conclusion that it just sort of sucks!

To those hoping for new a Pixies album, they have (at least) 5 tracks already recorded.

Whether or not we see an album or not is another matter, but you know I hope so too :)

Fuck yes! Lots of NIN fans here; GAF collectively has a great taste in music.

I absolutley can't wait for With Teeth. I don't have a surround system but I know i'll wind up buying the single and album in every single format.

/me hugs Fragile on cassette and soon-to be coming Downward Spiral dualdisc and Promo vinyl

So, is Radiohead's new one actually coming out this year?

Wow, there's some Spoon love in here. I'm actually surprised.

I'd say Spoon, Flaming Lips, White Stripes, Radiohead, Weezer, The Strokes, Eels.

I'd love to know if The Libertines are sticking together or not.

Isn't a new Spiritualized album supposed to come out anytime soon, too?
