What are your top 5 cancelled games?

I always wanted to see City of Metronome come out, I thought the concept looked really neat.

The game was set in a gothic/industrial style city, and relied on the player to manipulate sound to progress. The character had a device on their back that recorded audio, and you would capture sounds, and then modulate them to change the pitch etc, to use them in the game. For example, you might have to create a loud noise to startle someone, or a soothing noise to get past an enemy. Or it could be something as simple as recording a voice to bypass a security checkpoint.

The game was originally announced at E3 2005 by Tarsier Studios. Since the announcement they have made a few titles, but sadly, City of Metronome isn't one of them. The studio has worked on LittleBigPlanet, Tearaway and The Stretchers. They also developed Little Nightmares, which tonally seems similar to City of Metronome, and it does make me wonder if some of the designs and environments from that game got used in LN.

As far as I'm aware, City of Metronome was never officially cancelled, although clearly it has been put on the back burner. My suspicion is that the Little Nightmares franchise has basically replaced it. No bad thing, the first game is good, and the sequel will probably expand on the ideas and make them even bigger and better, but I really love the sound mechanic that City of Metronome proposed.

i forgot all about this one. It was teased and whispered about for a looong time

Only 5 will be tough to choose, but... as always, not in order:
Prey 2
Nosgoth
FEZ 2
Whore of the Orient
Silent Hills or Scalebound, couldn't decide.

hmm, no top 5. Just 1 that comes to mind.

Sadness (Nibris-Wii) - That insanely hyped game from Nibris that never went anywhere. Bloober Team was attached to Nibris and seem to have been the ones that actually knew what they were doing. Sadly I haven't played any of their games but their releases seem to always contain elements that Sadness was aiming for, Blair Witch definitely seems like it contains ideas from Sadness.

The artwork that was teased and the OST seemed fantastic.

1. Resident Evil 3.5. One of my most-wanted games ever, this is truly the one that got away.
2. Half-Life 2, Episode 3
3. Silent Hills
4. Retro Studios mystery 2014-2019 project
5. Earthbound 64

How about Arkane's Half Life spin off set in Ravenholme? One of the best game developers, with one of the best series in gaming....ah, what could have been.

Speaking of Valve, I really, really hope that In The Valley of the Gods sees light of day. The game's website hasn't been updated since 2018, and still gives a 2019 release date. Valve buying Campo Santos was obviously great for the company, but seems to mean that Valley of the Gods has been hit with serious Valve time. 😟

Diddy Kong Racing 2
Silent Hills
Scalebound
Dead Rising 5 (Chuck and Katey in Mexico inbetween 2 and 3)
Metroid Prime 4

Fallout 3 (I'm talking about the real fallout 3 that got canned. Not the Bethesda one)

This hurt me really bad as in a massive fan of fallout 1 and 2.

I heard there was a Baldur's Gate 3 that got canned too. Hurt me really bad too.

It looks like back in the mid 90s, Sega's world series baseball game was going to come to Saturn and PS. You can see in the top right game pic, that's what WS looked like on Genesis and those were good games.
