What Computers Does the Government Use?

I guess I've always wondered this, but never thought about asking till I caught a few minutes of a movie with some FBI agents at their computer. They were using PCs.

So would the FBI really use something like as vulnerable as Windows? Or perhaps they do? What about other OSs? OS X? Linux? Something proprietary? Anybody know?

EDIT: Yikes, wrong forum. Sorry!

IRS- Local server network all programs on a central computer and you just have stations to log into and use.

FBI- Laptops are basically invisible drives. Think propriatry hdd but with a lot of added security. Most uses a form of dos to acess basic stuff.

State- Normal Windows PC's for the most part.

Military uses crap i cant even think of

CIA is just a step up above FBI but a global network similar to how the IRS computers work.

Windows can be very secure if you have a decent security policy. From my experience, government institutions have insane security, so they're not really vulnerable (i.e. you have to manually open every port for every application you want to use it for your apps to work).

We use Win 2k and Silicon Graphics computers where I work (Defense Contractor)... I think I brought up to some people why the hell are they using Win :P but it's pretty popular within the government.

They use all kinds of computers -- whatever works the best for the particular application. Although there is heavy use of PCs, as you might expect, some of the high security/high performance applications run on different hardware: Sun, SGI, DEC, etc.

The real question is,could their PCs handle Half Life 2 at max settings, lol!
Probably not...unless, for example HL2 is optimized for dual-processor Xeons. Most PCs don't have advanced 3-D accelerator cards unless there is a very specific use for that hardware in mind.
