What did you think of Godfather part III?

I avoided part III for a while even though I seen it had won a bunch of oscar awards on the box cover at a videostore. I actually just seen part 1 and 2 maybe a year or two ago. But recently I seen part 3. It's not really that bad. The good was of course Al Pacino as I expected. He's just amazing. My personal favorite actor just looking at all he's done. But anyway, yeah, he was great and Andy Garcia was pretty damn good too. Can't say much for the rest of the family at this point in there lives. Being that it was made so long after the first 2 they really lacked purpose. I thought Kaye was good but Michael's sister was pretty annoying and his daughter was just ok. They needed her to carry part III of everything good though and she didnt really do that at all. Then Andolini, he was just used to set up Michael and Kaye's relationship. The acting was emotionless from that dude.

But anyway, bottom line. Still has some bad ass scenes. Michael was still awesome and Vincent was kick ass. Definetly did Sonny's character justice being his son. Overall though none of the magic of the first 2. Its not every day you can have a character like Vito Corleone though or have a transformation as Michael had. Not to mention an amazing and much loved supporting cast. Part III I dont think deserves the flack though. It was an above average movie

It was very heavy and hard to move from one projector to the other. Oh, you didn't expect me to WATCH IT did you?

It was just OK. Too much slow drama in the middle with the Catholic church, it just lacked compelling conflict for the majority of the film. I got tired of the whole Vatican saga.

Also, the climax was a retread of the first film's third act, but didn't have as much of a payoff. Boring at times.

Fucking horrible. I watched Godfather I and II the previous two nights before it and I couldn't even get all the way through. Just awful.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
1. It sucked
2. Sofia Coppola can't act*
3. But I'd hit it
4. Even though she has the body of a young boy
5. Hey wait a minute...ewwwww

*This is an understatement. Sofia Coppola's inability to act, if it was directly proportional to the strength of a black hole would swallow all existence as we know it.

Had it been named something other than The Godfather Part III, people would think that it's a decent, but forgettable movie.

Oh, wait--I somehow managed to forget that Sofia Coppola singlehandedly ruins every single scene she's in. Never mind: it's horrible.

Sofia Coppola is the worst actress of all time, worse than that girl from Blair Witch. Also her beaknose obstructed my view of the other actors.

I just think after I and II there was no more material to mine; everything about the film felt forced.

I thought it was just terrible. I rented it a few weeks ago to see if I was wrong. Eli Wallach as the illian is just fucking lame, and a brown paper bag would have been more charismatic then Sofia C. However, I will say this. Al does great acting in his last big scene. Just excellent.

I like it. I did dislike some aspects of it, namely where it meandered away from the greatness of the first two, but I think it finishes really strongly. As a piece of entertainment it did it's job better than plenty of films.

It's not on the same level as the first two Godfathers, but a decent movie compared to most of the crap that's out there.

Horrible.

I have the Godfather DVD set with all the movies, and I have not yet even removed GF3 from its holder, because to me it just doesnt exist. Maybe one day for Shits & Giggles I will watch it. I mean I saw the movie, but I dont want to ever have to sit through it again. I really wish that GF4 got off the ground, and they were able to redeem the franchise by making it better than 3.

Sofia Coppola's acting in the Godfather movies should've stopped here-

But instead, we got the most godawful 'dramatic' scene ever....."Dad?"....thump.

That being said, I'd still hit this

She don't look so hot nowadays.

When I first saw GF Part III I didn't like it much at all. But since I own the collector's boxset I decided to watch it with the commentary and I gained a new appreciation of the film.

Coppola explains how it really shouldn't be considered 'Part III' and instead should be treated as an epilogue to the saga. On that level the movie is much easier to take and doesn't force it to compete on the same level with the first two films(when it would surely lose). If you listen to the commentary Coppola also explains his deep reservations about making the film (basically Paramount needed money at the time so another GodFather film seemed like a good idea to the executives) and how he was constantly wrestling with the draft of the film he was told to direct which was pretty much all about Vincent with Michael Coreleone as just a supporting character.

Again look at the film now as the last part not the third part and its much easier to watch. Seeing Michael return to Sicily, confess his horrible sins, reconcile with Kay Adams, and ultimately pass on his power and title to Vincent are more powerful scenes in that context.

I avoided part III for a while even though I seen it had won a bunch of oscar awards on the box cover at a videostore.

BTW, I'm pretty the film was nominated for something like 6 awards but didn't win any of them.

oh yeah, meant to say that. Wonder if a Godfather 4 would be any good. It would be pretty pointless actually if you think about it. The family business just keeps going. It would be a lot like part I and II but it'd be closer to a remake. Some may like but I'd imagine the majority would hate it as it would add nothing to the Godfather franchise. Yeah, I dont think it would ever work. If you can keep 2/3rds of the Godfather saga absolute classics dont screw with it anymore
