this is my first creation using Maya .. and my second 3D creation ever.. (first one was a decent elephant using Strata3DPro) .. ignore the backgrounds and stuff.. i made them pretty quickly.. my main focus was the iron giant.. im pretty proud of my work .. though there are certain thing i could have done more efficiently..

if you want other angles of the model.. just ask. :)

oh yeah.. these pics are screen caps.. they arent rendered..

Those are pretty damn fly man!

But that woman is hideos ;)

she's a decoy.. made out of wood. :) .. its just a small narrative i threw together kinda quickly..

also.. its hard to see some of the finer details of the model..

remember.. this isnt rendered..

oh. and i was working off of this shitty little toy i got when i bought the movie oh so long ago.. it was hard finding movie pics for all of his angles..

this toy::

That's pretty good. You have it rigged already?

You should post a clearer shot, one with the standard modeling perspectives so you can see the detail versus the actual reference model. You know, x, y, z and all that stuff.

thanks. :)

its not rigged.. i just parent..ed . the limbs and changed the pivot points so that i could move them easily.. im gonna set up a skeleton in the next few days.. ive gotta start messing with better lighting and textures as well ..

ill post those x, y, z pictures later tonight. :)

Spline, Box, how did you model it?

it was a project for a class.. so it had to be 95% polygons.. . the only time i used nurbs was for the crown thing. cause it was so damn easy with the nurb tools..

basically.. i used many spheres, cylinders, cubes.. and i modified them using Boolean operations, cutting faces, moving/deleting/etc. the vertices...

ive never used maya before.. so my techniques may be a little rough .

Pretty good man. Rig it up and animate it.

thanks.. yeah.. he is going to be animated in a short movie due at the end of the semester... which is the end of january . . but ill be playing with animations as soon as i have time.

Why would it be a spline model something thats relatively a low-res build and primarily 'boxey' :p

Are you going to be texturing it at all?

That reminds me of one of my first modeling projects. We were assigned to make lego peices and construct a navigatable scene with them, using them as you would in real life. I couldn't figure out why everyone was just using stretched cubes and cyclinders because -- to me -- that was a horrible representation of either 1) Their inability to understand that lego's don't really look like that or 2) Lazy as sloth

Turns out, most of them didn't even think of modeling lego peices like they actually looked, but it ended up helping them out in the end. I built one generic rectangular lego piece and used the boolean functions to carve out the under sides, the notches, and the raised portions on the face. I then proceeded to copy the sommabitch 1,000 times so I can build a castle with the peices. After all was said and done, we had to show our projects to the teacher by rotating a simple gouraud shaded model and manipulating the camera so he could see each of the sides in RT. Needless to say, my computer froze and stopped for 20 seconds to render each frame and he couldn't deal with the wait time to check the project out. He gave me an A, though, because he remembered how it looked like I was working on it prior to the the final build -- plus, be final project kicked the shit out of everyone elses beginning project and then some.
