what do you think of Nathan Fielder?

Nathan Felder, the sociopath who brought you Nathan For You, The Rehearsal and The Curse.

I like him. I think he is likely a terrible human being but Nathan For You and The Rehearsal were really good and weird and hilarious and awkward and The Curse is just amazing. Emma Stone is fucking incredible in it.

do you love Nathan

Nathan for you was hilarious. Haven't watched all of the rehearsal, first episode was funny but not as good as Nathan for you.

Why do you think he's a terrible human being?

Nathan for You was comedy lightning in a bottle, but I haven't enjoyed his other stuff nearly as much. I think he's a really funny guy, but his fame was a detriment to his shtick. I still don't know how he stone faced some of the scenes on his shows.

The alligator electronics store episode of Nathan for You is probably the most mind blowing episode of "reality" tv I've ever seen. Particularly how the whole thing wraps up with him getting Best Buy's lawsuit dismissed over a plea of insanity from the electronics store owner's testimony. He told the whole court the story of there being an alligator in his store keeping people from buying TVs for a dollar, but it was all true. Watching that episode unravel was a treat.

Sadly I don't think he can ever do that again because now he'll get recognized and then the jig is up. Still a brilliant comedy mind and great writer though, especially for those uncomfortable cringe moments.

I think he’s great. I loved The Rehearsal and can’t wait for season 2

The Curse and Nathan For You are great too. His commitment to the bit is so strong that it takes something this batshit to even start to shake him

He’s really good at blurring the line between the real and fictional version of himself.

I wouldn’t say he’s a terrible person. I think he thinks a lot about what it means to make these kind of shows and that thought process spirals into the type of work he makes.

I've only seen The Rehearsal. Ups and downs with that show, it wasn't a.. pleasant viewing experience overall, but it was very successful in making me truly question some things about the nature of why we watch some things we watch and what that actually means. 1st episode was very provocative and I regularly have a sound bite of "Wow, Door City over here" bouncing around in my head (yes I am probably some kind of lunatic). Honestly I think everybody needs to watch that 1st episode, at least!

I need to watch Nathan for You at some point. I might need a little more distance from The Rehearsal 1st.

EDIT: Oh god there's an S2 of Rehearsal?!

Nathan for you is one of my favorite shows ever. “The Anecdote” episode is one of the greatest pieces of comedy ever filmed IMO.

The Rehearsal, honestly, sucked. Went way off the rails. The original concept could have been good. No idea what happened.

I mean that is kind of the most interesting thing about it, really. Was it a failure and did we witness a train wreck? Or was that the plan all along? Either way it makes you question what the hell you are watching, and what is acting VS what "reality TV" actually is & why that is compelling to us. And that, after the novelty of reality TV had kind of come and gone a very, very long time ago.

So it may not have been "good," but it definitely kind of made me think about the nature of media in a way I really hadn't before, it kind of bothered me. I think that's pretty remarkable.

could be because I was super high but parts of the Rehearsal felt wrong to watch, like the whole trivia thing. felt like Nathan sorta ruined the dudes life. the guy on the show was fucking livid because that trivia scene was his world. it felt at times like like this shouldn't be broadcasted. I don't want to say it was exploitive but it definitely felt wrong that it was being televised.

I still love him and watch anything he touches, but some of his episodes leave me feeling dirty.

Agreed. It was just too much of a mindfuck for me to really enjoy it. I just kept wondering if what I was witnessing was that it genuinely had went in a new direction organically, which would have been interesting. Or if this was the intention all along and it was part of the script. Way too much to make sense of and Nathan's characteristically stoic personality made it even harder to figure out just what the hell was actually happening. I absolutely will check out season two when it comes out, though. Hes earned that much.
