There has been lots of talk about the PS5 Pro specs, which will be interesting to see once officially announced. Seems like a more moderate, less "brute-force" update than the PS4 Pro was, with more specific improvements for things like upscaling and RT.
But you can't launch a new console with nothing to show it off (...right?). So realistically, what do we think might possibly be ready for launch?
The main benefits of the Pro are upscaling and RT, right? And one of the main criticisms of Forbidden West is the lighting model. I wouldn't be surprised to see better upscaling added to FW, but I doubt they're going to go as far as adding RTGI or anything like that - that would be a massive amount of work. But if the HZD remake is being developed alongside PS5 Pro with full knowledge of its capabilities, planned to be shown off as a prime example of the Pro's power, perhaps this is the perfect place for Guerrilla to test out some "next-gen" RT updates to Decima? HZD with the quality of FW and RTGI would be something to behold.
Of course, Sony said they "do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War Ragnarok or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2", but maybe a remake/remaster falls outside of this? Again, they need something to show off the Pro with, right?
It makes sense in my head anyway.

Updates to existing games
Most likely we'll see patches for various games already out, with improved resolution/upscaling being the easiest thing to implement. RT is more complicated though. What games already out do we think are likely to get an RT boost, and what would it be? Jedi: Survivor is one possibility that comes to mind that I would like to see updates for. It already has RT so it's not like it needs to be added from scratch. If we could get a solid 60fps mode with better resolution/image quality and RT, I'd be a happy camper. Alan Wake 2, FFXVI, A Plague Tale: Requiem... plenty of existing high-end games where it would be great to see some nice improvements in image quality and RT. But somewhat expected, and not terribly exciting.New launch window games
What I'm really curious about is new games. Sony hasn't announced anything first-party in a while - could they be waiting to show off something in conjunction with the Pro? The first possibility that popped into my head was the rumored Horizon Zero Dawn remake. This seems somewhat plausible to me for a few reasons:- It was first rumored a while ago - around the end of '22 I believe. If it was indeed in production, end of '24/early '25 should be a sufficient amount of time for the project considering it's not a brand new game.
- The Horizon franchise and Guerrilla (whether or not they are actually leading production) have always been associated with high-end graphics. It would fit the pattern to continue that with the PS5 Pro.
- The original Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the main examples used to promote the PS4 Pro. Perhaps purely circumstantial and coincidental, but I like the idea of using a remake to promote the PS5 Pro. It feels right.
