A new generation of GPUs from AMD, Nvidia and Intel are set to release in early 2025.
With it, might be a whole set of improvements and new features.

So the question is, what do you value the most in a new GPU?
Pick 3 out of the following choices.

And don't forget to tells us why you picked those options and why everyone else is wrong :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I am a little disconnected from the PC news. I know that 5000 are coming just after Christmas, but how about RDNA4? Any rumours about them?

Rasterisation performance but it seems that might matter less and less going forward so also any kind of AI/ML performance.

DLSS/Frame Gen are really great features. Without DLSS I don’t think I’d have kept my 2080 for as long as I did. And there hasn’t been a game yet that my 4080 has struggled with.

I probably don’t need to replace it for years yet but I’ll still likely get a 5080 or 5090 simply because I like to have the newest hardware. PC gaming/building and just any kind of PC use is my hobby so I don’t mind spending a lot on it. I don’t really splash money on anything else so fuck it :)

I have a 4090 but I’m not buying anything until there is a new AAA pushing graphics that I REALLY want to play. Only games I’m looking forward to currently are not pushing the graphics envelope, which is fine with me too. Those Cyberpunk trailers had me willing to surrender my wallet to Jensen but I don’t know what they are gonna use to sell these new cards? Wukong?

Over 12GB of VRAM

Having at least a 256-bit bus. anything under that might as well not exist in my eyes.

if an upgrade in port technology exists it should be fully supported asap

Nvidia has been testing my nerves these last few years which is why I've elected to stick with Turing

I don't like the options so I'm just going to say

  1. Performance (every kind of performance)
  2. Features (DLSS/Frame Gen/Ray Reconstruction/etc..)
  3. Power consumption/thermals (honestly don't care much about this but I need a solution that keeps things both quiet at operating temps where throttling doesn't become an issue)
  4. Price (I'm willing to pay top dollar, but let's not get too ridiculous)

Really a solid combination of everything for a good price.

What I don’t want is Nvidia’s piddly improvements for the price of a kidney.

#1 Price/perf ratio, I'm willing to take a hit to be on the higher end but I don't appreciate price gouging
#2 longevity (gtfo with 8gb vram or 12gb on upper middle end cards)
#3 stuff like DLSS or framegen
Also would like to not exceed 300-350watts.

What would get me to upgrade day 1:
4080 super-4090 level performance at 300w, 24GB VRAM, with DLSS or equivalent upscaling at $1000 or less. Sadly IMO the 5080 will be $1200-1400+ and only have 16gb VRAM, and rdna4 isn't a big enough performance jump even though the rumored price should be appealing.
