Another playthrough of Tactics Ogre. Seems to become more addictive with each playthrough. Been about a year since my last, and I think I put in about 200 or so hours. One of those games you can't stop thinking about when you're not playing it.

It's amazing with those games isn't it. I went to a retro site and started playing Gemfire and even with the dated graphics the game play pulled me back into it.

I'm currently playing through multiple games.

Dark Souls: Remastered
DOOM (Second Playthrough)
Assassin's Creed Origins
Far Cry 2 (Second Playthrough)
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
Far Cry 4
Thief (2014)
Assassin's Creed III: Liberation (Second Playthrough)
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Second Playthrough)
Final Fantasy IV: After Years (PC)
Final Fantasy V (PC)
Final Fantasy VI (PC)
Final Fantasy VII (PC)
Painkiller: Hell and Damnation (Second Playthrough)
Blades of Time
F.E.A.R. 3

EDIT: Forgot Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

You are playing through three Final Fantasy games concurrently?

EDIT: Make that four!

Yep, I jump through each of them when I get bored of the other. I don't play a single game for a long period of time. I play multiple for a long time, jumping to a new one every Hour and a Half to 2 hours.

Interesting. Do you ever finish games?

I have just started playing Paladins (on XB1) within the last few weeks.
Despite being in Australia, I seem to be able to play in US games with minimal lag. This was a great surprise to me.
The game is pretty fun. It does feel similar to Overwatch in some respects, but there is more action and less time spent running to objectives.

Agony - PC I put it down for the time being. That and I saw pictures of the ending on YouTube in a thumbnail. I'm typically good at not seeing spoilers, but I went looking for cut footage. :/

Dark Souls Remastered - PS4 I haven't had this much fun since Prepare to Die edition came out. I'm starting a class I didn't play the first time and a new set of weapons.

Street Fighter 30th on PS4. Playing 3S online is fun again. Realizing I suck and I'm still learning the game is reliving my multiplayer years. Good times

SMT Strange Journey Redux. This game has been a blast. I got slaughtered by something optional so I'm going to go back here shortly.

I picked up Smash Bros Wii U for the kid, so that's been a lot of fun. I only owned the 3DS edition and the kid wants my 3DS when I want to play Strange Journey, so I bought the Wii U version.

I know that feeling. I've started a lot of my mobile RPG's that way.

How is it? I've been thinkin of picking it up on a sale.

Yeah, it's probably one of the best "wait for it" type of games. Its like a toss between being okay/good and being very frustrating. It tosses stealth in there because you're hiding a lot at first. Other times you're figuring out how to get to the next room. Hide, hold your breathe, solve a puzzle, escape to the next room, get an item, rinse and repeat. The world can be interesting to explore. Sometimes I feel like my mind has higher hopes than what's around the next corner. Playing alone with headphones was creepy because it is a dark game.

I had a very bad crash last night where my character couldn't move and the camera kept jerking back and forth. I had to close the game. If you really enjoyed games like Outlast and Amnesia then you'll probably like it. I can't lie and say it's worth full price. I got frustrated and I wasn't progressing in a way that I wanted to. It felt like an amusement park in hell. The kind of amusement park that is very unique, but it's not going to make it in the history books.

I'm trying to be nice about this game since the developers made something that looked incredibly interesting. I have had to remind myself of those Doom references of biting Satan's cane and very cool synthetic male voices talking to me in order to cheer me up. So smh

Haha yeah I think I've played FF Tactics about 14 or 15 times... TO less so (elaborated below) but it's really for the same reasons: basically treating each new playthrough almost like a Dungeons & Dragons dungeon master. Come up with a story, a theme, unique characters, head canon, etc: god-hating mercenaries that all have low Faith to resist Magic and only use Item, Mediator Skills, etc (no Magic); zealous Knights (everyone must be a Knight main job or maybe everyone must have either Knight or White Mage as either Main or Sub; far-east mercenaries (there's a name for it IIRC... wonder if its the same name as the recent XIV expansion) only using samurai, ninja, oracle, etc. I've made playthroughs based on my MMO character headcanon; on the PS ninja game Tenchu; based on other FF characters....

But mostly just parties where I come up with headcanon lore for the game world though, like the aforementioned mercenaries (all recruited from a Trade City) or zealous knights (all High Faith from a church city). I do the same thing in TO: mercenaries, mostly Dark Knights and Dragoons and etc from Zenobia and Bakran; a pure nationalist knights and archers rebel party of only Walastans (Law route) or maybe a Law route where I make sure to have a blend of Galagastans, Walastans, and others from across Valeria....

Anyhow, I do like TO gameplay a bit more but I suppose I replay TO less so* just because it's a bit of a slower experience IMO. The smaller parties and maps in FFT really help the replayability... Sometimes I go with FFT instead of TO just because I want to get into some faster battles but also more smooth character development.

TO, especially the remake, with all its new class and level system, the crafting and itemization, is just a time investment... And, to be clear, I think that's why TO is overall better. I loved the new level and item system. I felt the new level system is really cool once I stopped thinking about 'leveling' people, and rather 'leveling' infantry ranks of my army... So, you level up your Knights, your Archers, etc.

And, the item system in TO is underrated one of the best twinking itemization systems since Diablo 2 ... it's not dominated by just linear better items (e.g. higher DPS every 5 levels)... but instead, low-level and at-first-insignificant items are some of the best in the game because they have special utility -- bonuses to damage type (e.g. piercing) or rare stat bonuses. And, the crafting system, as tedious and monotonous as it is for small +1 or +2 bonuses, is very Dungeons & Dragons or Diablo 2 esque in that small subtle bonuses on low-level items can give you huge advantages to low level characters....

Twinking out and leveling up new 'alt' classes in TO is probably my favorite 'leveling up a low level character' in almost any JRPG, SRPGs included.

But, that said, it all requires a ton of time... Is why sometimes I just go with FFT instead for replays.

(note: since the remake I've played TO a bit more... I have a dedicated PS TV on my LCD basically just for TO haha -- just, on average since the 90s, I have replayed FFT more)

Almost done with Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash. I got the platinum but Im still missing 24% of the skill cards. I also have 7 survival stages to beat but it's such a pain to do with bots that I'm not sure if I'm going to for it.

Currently playing God of War. It is really good, especially the story and the relationship with Kratos and Atreus. As a Scandinavian, the Norse Mythology clicks with me far better than the Greece, I relate more to the drama and it makes the game so much more engrossing. The main draw right now for me storywise, aside from the main quest, is the hiding of Kratos true nature, The way it builds up plays with my emotions, and I hope Barlog keeps this little sidenote as taut as possible. The directing and writing is top notch, with slick production values, beautiful vistas, great sound and some good old meatcleaving monster madness.

Just finished mass effect and am playing Mass effect 2 right now. So far I like Mass Effect 1 better somewhat I think.

Finally beat one of my games I had, Dark Souls Remastered. Though Remastered is giving it too much credit. Either way got that done quick enough. Now playing some Cultist simulator and Vampyr.

Darkness no more
Bought a PS3 to play my PS1 classics on my TV. Playing through Tomb Raider 2 now. I probably died more times during the first level then either of the entire reboot games.

A modded version of Shenmue II on the Dreamcast. Mods are widescreen without clipping or animations breaking including in cutscenes and English speech from the xbox version.

Everyone should play this game because it's simply sublime.

Whilst not as good as the original it still has its charm. Where the original excelled at making you feel like you were at home the sequel really makes you feel like a stranger in a foreign land.

How are you liking it? I was tossing up whether to play Radiant Historia or Chrono Trigger and I ended up going for Chrono Trigger. Almost finished, so I might do Radiant Historia after.

I loved them both, but I loved ME2 more. I liked the cast and their stories more there.

I finished Watch Dogs last night too. The city was very impressive to look at and the story was ok. Some outfit customization wouldve been nice.

Wrapped up my 100% playthrough of Southpark: The Stick of Truth and I'm currently in the first couple of hours of Southpark: Fractured but whole. Have to say I enjoyed the former immensely but the sequel just isn't grabbing me so far in terms of engagement. It might be a case of perhaps too much Southpark, so I might bail on it for now until later in the year and instead try and tackle another title in my backlog instead.

It gets better later on in the game but never as good as the first one. I think taking a long break would help a lot.

Ok, will do. There are some definitely weird aspects to it, like the really deliberate gating that takes place at the beginning, and stuff like a notable lack of music in places compared to the STOT. Plus I liked the bold iconography in STOT when it came to the pickups, whereas in FBH it's less pronounced. That feels like a mistake.

I´m currently playing The Surge and i´m having a rough time with this game. At the beginning I accidentally destroyed a couple of useful implants and then I got lost in the enviroments for a good couple of hours. The first boss was giving me hell until I figured out its weakness and it took a couple of tries before it went down. I´m now at the second level and it is pretty brutal. I don´t know where to go and I´m being chased by murderous robotic vehicles and screaming sadists with sharp sticks. But damn is it sweet when you find a shortcut to the OPS room. I also dipped my toes in the expansion but got my ass handed too me right from the get go.

I like this game. I was a bit on the fence at first, because Deck 13s previous effort Lords of the Fallen was a huge let down. Then I tried the demo for The Surge and it was clear that the bar had been raised significantly regarding quality. The game is still rough around the edges, but it is a fun Souls-like and I like the sci-fi setting and story concept quite a lot. It looks good, with some interesting weapons and gameplay mechanics, such as dismember limbs to get a hold of armor schematics. It also runs very smoothly, which is really nice when it comes to these particular games. The only thing I don´t like so far is the time limit on your lost scrap metal. That is complete and utter BS. At least now in the beginning. And the level design, enemy placement and the variety of said enemies are all inferior to the likes of Fromsoft, but then again, everyone is.

One thing I will say is that they at least they put HDR in it, From couldn't even do that with Dark Souls: 'Remastered'.

I'm looking forward to the Surge 2, I think that one will be much improved.

I´ve reached the Biolabs now in The Surge and I´m really enjoying this game. The second boss was challenging in all the right ways and was a fun encounter. This is shaping up to be a sleeper hit, was not prepared to become so invested in it, especially not after Lords of the Fallen. The Surge consists of all sorts of previous sci-fi ideas and manages to blend those pretty well with the developers own twists and turns. For example, the introduction is a clear homage to Avatar, the exo-suit rig seems taken directly from Elysium and the doomsday scenario with machines gone rogue feels Terminator-esque in the very best of ways.

The story is intruiging, for the most part, and the world building and level design are excellent. The action feels sort of like Dead Space has been married to Dark Souls and I love the sense of dread that haunts every footstep I take. I haven´t been this anxious since I played Demon´s Souls back in the day. The dark and foreboding corridors just oozes with atmosphere and you never know what awaits you around the corner. Then suddenly you take the elevator and you´re out in the open fresh air and can see the entire area you are in. It is a nice change of scenery going back and forth like that. The risk and reward gameplay also adds a lot a tension because the more scrap you have on you, the greater the benefits, but also greater chance of losing it all.

This pretty much lines up with my experience.

Absolutely loved the game after starting off lukewarm.

I really need to get back to it I got right to the last area and stopped playing when I went on holiday.

8.5\10

i may start Detroit soon, hope it's good, the Demo sucked though

Just took down Big Sister in The Surge. A cool boss, but it was really easy. I killed it on my third try but I already felt on the first go that this was gonna be an easy one. I just came to Research and Development. The plot thickens and I like the story despite the somewhat predictable turn of events. I´m also on the second half of A Walk in the Park and it´s an interesting DLC. An amusement park for a setting is a really nice change of pace. I can only think of one other game that actually had a theme park as it´s setting and that was Silent Hill 3. And for an action game like The Surge, it must be the first one. It´s both hilarious and creepy, with Donnie Donut bum rushing me with those giant hands and a donut for a head. Deck 13 captures that apocalyptic atmosphere with broken rollercoasters, empty popcorn stands and crazy mascots running around. It´s colorful and vibrant yet dark and melancholic. It also has some excellent weapons and armory to collect. Very good expansion so far.
