Chugging along with the RE7, this time with help of "walk-thru". (my first RE game that I am relying on a walk-thru because I'm too scared)
Thanks to that - I think I am gaining the traction and will likely be able to finish the game in a few more sessions.. and taking in no shame of retries. (I really am terrible at FPS games)
Currently, I'm about to confront that crazy son in that madhouse... so I guess I'm in about 60-70% into the game?
It's been a long long while since I got this grossed out in any video games, especially in a RE series - which I normally expect 20% scare, 80% cheese... and while there are still cheesy stuff in this game, I'm genuinely scared in a lot of locations. The game changes its pitch and different phobias nicely too - at least so far. Now in that madhouse, it feels like I'm in a movie "SAW".
Not just the visuals - but also the sound design has to do with a lot in creating such atmosphere... I mean that the house, creaks and sudden window bangs and all - always startle me quite a bit. Sound design of this game, has really really impressed me so far (and hating it too)
I do wish the camera angle was little wider though - maybe it's because I'm playing VR edition (using non VR mode)... but I doubt it's anything different...
One of the thing I am still not used to blocking is I can't see anything when I block since the camera angle is so narrow. I really have to force myself to remind that "block" is there. But a lot of times, I end up losing the orientation after... and mostly, I squat unintentionally - because I'm too tense, and try to run away.... by pressing L3 (run), but because I'm too scared, I press R3 (squat) at the same time. Not being able to button map is another thing, but I think it's the dev's cruel joke on the players like me. Occasionally it makes the enemy miss his swing by luck, but I feel so... literally belittled, after squatting down and trying run away but moving at snails pace, panicking... lol. (Wish there was a replay function from 3rd person perspective - it would be pretty funny)
While I miss my RE staple characters, but I have to be honest. I don't like FPS genre, but this is one of the best RE game that I've played so far. If I was good at fps aiming with pad, I would have been more competent...
