What game are you currently playing?

Time is short these days so playing these arcade gems:

Contra: Operation Galuga: Looks and plays different from the older ones but having a blast.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion: Pure fun shmup/melee game with adrenalin pumping metal blasting in the background. Generous checkpoints make it a stress-free experience just soaking in the sites and sounds as you deal with crazy looking enemies and beautiful pixel art.

Darksiders 2: The D4 announcement finally got me motivated to get the remastered version running on the steamdeck but my old save file doesn't work. Remember it somewhat overstaying its welcome last time so not sure if I have the patience to slog through it again.

HyperParasite: Had it for a while but it just now grabbed me. It's a twin-stick shooter where you can take over an enemies body giving you their powers and weapons. Sort of a take on Kirby's gameplay mechanics. Double dipped on PC and Switch.

Assassin's Creed Shadows: played a bit, did one quest, but I totally forgot how to play, so I need to spend more time
Ghostwire Tokyo: I also forgot how to play, I need to spend more time on it
Sakura Wars: totally forgot where I was, so I need to spend more time with it

Assassin's Creed Shadows: played a bit, did one quest, but I totally forgot how to play, so I need to spend more time
The same thing happened to me, but since the DLC is launching in October, I may wait until then to pick it back up.
Sakura Wars
I need to dive into this eventually.

As for what I'm actually playing...

I finished up Xenoblade 1 awhile ago and am taking a break before diving into the DLC and Xenoblade 2 (I have an early game save with KOS-MOS unlocked, so I'll pick up from there)

I'm finally getting around to playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 (with some QoL mods - fast herb picking, easier pickpocketing, no fog of war, etc...). Love the game, but combat really hasn't clicked with me yet. I just feel like I'm flailing around, so I've tried to avoid combat as much as possible, but I know I can't do that forever.

Also playing a bit of TOTK on Switch 2. The companion app is amazing, especially the voice navigation. I really wish more open-world games did this sort of thing. It really takes the tedium out of the game.

Started Death Stranding 2 when it released, but put it down until I feel like really investing a lot of time with it.

I have a HUGE JRPG backlog as well that I need to dive into. Thinking about messing around with Tokyo Mirage Sessions

Finally, I ordered Ys X: Proud Nordics from Japan. I'm teaching myself Japanese, so I'm looking forward to playing through the game entirely in Japanese. Along those same lines, I'm working through some visual novels in Japanese, but that's more study than gaming.

Gonna start Dreadout, see if I can finish it before Mafia is shipped.

Also, just picked up P5 Royal for yet another platform (thanks Humble), don't know if I'll ever get a chance to play it lol.

Ghost of Tsushima on PC. Already played it on Playstation but last Steam sale I was tempted and pulled the trigger. Playing it with Mouse and Keyboard (I know it's a blasphemy to some) it's glorious. It feels so much better.

Broken Pieces
It's an adventure game, set in France in the 1990s. Eh, it's okay. I was quite looking forward to this one, but it's got a number of issues. There's some graphical glitches, and at times the screen details the objectives, etc. is difficult to read (again, due to graphical issues). Just making my way through my backlog, basically. Plan to jump back into all the AAA stuff I missed next year.

Have been playing Alters the last few days. I still don't know how to feel about it, honestly. There is some really good stuff in it and I like the balance of exploration and base management but I'm also not terribly excited to get back into it every evening. I would imagine that with a tiny bit better writing it could have been a bit more exciting adventure.

I've been playing Returnal. It's really good. I'm not into rogue lites normally, but I like the gameplay loop in this one. The procedurally generated map upon dying makes it a little more welcoming each run, it doesn't get boring or repetitive this way. It's challenging and fun so far.

Astro Bot and Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster, both incredible games.
Astro Bot is exactly the template PlayStation needs and should be using more of,.

Berserk band of the hawk (ps4) - fun but a bit repetitive. The enjoyment you'll get out of it depends on how much you like berserk.

Donkey kong bananza ( switch 2) - very fun 3d platformer. The ability to destroy pretty much everything in the environment is awesome.

Metal Gear Solid 3. (Spoilers for those who have had 20 years to play the game/series).

With DELTA coming out at the end of the month, I thought I would go back and replay MGS3. Will use this post to once again rant about how I think re-making MGS3 first is absolutely ridiculous. It's totally fine that Konami went this route with Silent Hill, but it makes no sense with Metal Gear.

"Well they're doing it because Snake Eater takes place first in the in-game timeline" - Terrible arguement. Re-introducing this world and its characters like this (and to potentially new players) basically robs people of the mystique that MGS3 originally bestowed when people like me played it with questions and raised eyebrows.

Remember, we had 4x Solid Snake games before this - but this revival is starting with Big Boss - and being shit out for new people with no context of those Solid Snake games. What makes MGS3 great is its pay-off, connecting dots with the knowledge of what this entire cast has become - but new people who play DELTA won't have those moments of magic throughout the game and they have nothing to drawback to; rendering MGS3 as just a stand-alone stealth-action romp. So many things regarding the characters of this game and their development will just fly over people too.

We'll never get new entries into the Metal Gear series, so I really wish if they're going this remake route one last time to make it more accessible and modern, at least do it the correct way FFS.

I will still play Delta, but this route they're taking just feels so reductive and just downplays the series.

Konami is sitting on Ground Zeroes and TPP. Imagine if they just remade MGS1 properly first. Ground Zeroes and Camp Omega could have been a great foundation for Shadow Moses Island. They can make new content too using the tools and logic from those games, just look at Metal Gear Survive. But instead they're going all the back to PS2 code and pick the wrong game.

Whatever. Crying done.

I first played this over on Itch.io ages before it came out. Had it on my wishlist for ages and finally started playing. Pretty obvious it's been massively inspired by P.T. and the clones that followed. Gameplay is decent enough and I really like the camera mechanic. The atmosphere is great, particularly the sound of rain lashing the windows and the intermittent cracks of thunder. It's pretty unsettling for a walking sim.

I'm going to have a bit of a horror weekend, I think. Madison, Resi 4 Remake and I'm going to buy another title from my wishlist: Heartworm, Signalis or Hollowbody.

Half life 2 - awesome to play it again in 4k at 120fps.

Also dabbling in Bioshock at the same as above.

Do have Deus Ex GOTY and Human Revolution I'm planning to try as well - loved HR back on 360 so hoping it's still as good now.

Did buy Judge Dredd Vs Death on Steam as well but it just crashed at the main menu constantly so refunded it - haven't really found a good fix so far but do really want to play it. Dolphin emulation just kept slowing down massively and the controls are weird.

I've been bouncing between Vice City and Yakuza 6, also played a bit of Hexen + Heretic remaster

I'm really surprised about Vice City. Story is much shorter than I remembered. I also had a vivid memory of mandatory property missions being tedious. Ironically they feel like a walk in the park in comparison how tedious some of the more modern games can be with their mandatory loops lol

Gonna be wrapping up Shivering Isles and with that Oblivion in today this weekend. Will have taken me 140 hours or so at the end.
Think I've had it with Bethesda RPGs for a bit.

Will then probably finally jump in to Clair Obscure.

Check out Portable Ops next! I held off continuing with MGS3 to see what this new re-release of the game is like...

Assassin's Creed Shadows still, I tried to finish the tea bowl quest, which apparently was a side quest, and you cannot finish it before doing other quests, and I spent like 2 hours going through the whole map for nothing

Played the Titan Quest 2 EA for a little bit... which brought me back to the first game. I'm enjoying Eternal Embers a bit more than the first time I went through it.

Cleared the chapel area and I'm now back in the basement. Solid horror so far. Main criticism is that there's too many jump scares.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

Fancied jumping into a JRPG series that I'm not overly familiar with and decided on the Trails series. Haven't played that long but I'm really like the art style, characters and music.

Also bought Heartworm after enjoying the demo. Will be playing that over the weekend.

Played through the CoD: World War 2 campaign.

Not every year hits but this is one of the better campaigns for sure. They tried WW2 again with Vanguard a few years after this and that one was a dud.

This one holds up pretty decently visually as well.

PC
Kena is the type of game I needed right now. Calm exploration, light puzzles and just enough challenge to keep me hooked.

Started Evil Within 2, I quit the the first one due to the controls and headbob/camera shake, just too clunky/old. This one however is really great, the guns pack a punch, stealth is super powerful, set pieces are incredibly detailed, atmosphere is on point, bosses are unique and well designed. Not too much horror which I like, 3rd person, crafting and all around a fun, cool title. Also Anima is super irritating but really incredibly well designed. Makes me realize how bad Tango butchered Ghostwire Tokyo which is an utter shitshow and pales in comparision to Evil Within 2.

Started Marvel's Midnight Suns, I was skeptical whether I would enjoy this as I do NOT like deck builders/cards stuff and do NOT like VN/Persona games and I'm not really a Marvel fan. Fast forward a few hours in I really like it, the combat is very good, very fun, the exploration is simple but works well. The VN part, talking, relationships and story is very Marvel, and many will find it cringe but I'm just laughing out, it's goofy, modern and funny because how absurd it is, I am keeping a "bruh" counter and having a great time. Honestly, this works ONLY because of the popular, pop culture characters like Ironman, Doctor Strange, Blade, Spiderman, Venom. The writing isn't great but like the movies, it's faithful to what you hear in the movies. The combat though shines, it's not overly complex, it's got the right amount of challenge and the visuals, animations are cool. Definitely try this one out, it's worth it.

Got my 7th character to Master rank in Street Fighter 6 - The French, judo ballerina Manon. She adds to Ryu, Honda, JP, Bison, Zangief, and Akuma for me. Trying out Sagat since he came out this week - He's tough, despite the game inexplicably labeling him as 'Easy' (among only two others in the cast, surprisingly).

I heavily recommend modding in voices if you haven't already. A lot of good performances all around, especially Akemi Kanda as Estelle. It's one of those changes that pretty much everyone agrees improves the experience.

There are a couple other popular mods out there, such as a music mod that replaces the original tracks with officially arranged ones (good in this game imo; kinda mixed later on, especially for 3) and a portrait mod that replaces the classic portraits with restyled, animated ones (which I personally think is godawful because the new style is oversimplified, makes the cast look too young, and loses the fantastic range of expression in the original portraits, but some people like the new style).

Madison. Completed
Enjoyed that. Story, atmosphere and gameplay all great. Sound design was probably the highlight, with creaking doors, thunder and rain outside. I think there were too many jump scares though, to the point where it was more frustrating than frightening. Probably the best 'PT Clone' that I've finished. 8/10.

Still tinkering with Donkey Kong on most days for at least 30 minutes. Still eying Expedition 33, but frustrated at being tied to the television at this moment in my life, but probably still going to jump in this week.

Instead for the moment though, I installed the new Heretic/Hexen combo that's been released - I think mostly QOL changes, but I never dabbled much into these titles despite liking DOOM. Having a lot of fun with Heretic - solid FPS/DOOM clone! I love this sort of old school, fast paced, FPS gameplay.

Quite literally at the moment, Battlefield 6 Open Beta. Either the TTK is terrible, the LMG is terrible, my aim is terrible, my internet is terrible, or maybe all of it is true. It's intense and I like it, but man do I suck. I'm gonna try an AR with the Support class and see how it goes in Domination.

I'm messing with Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound and it's pretty good.

Just finished up Atomfall on PC. Really enjoyed it and im glad I have it a go - ended up mainlining it for 3-4 days, I was flipping about between games and realised what I was looking for was Fallout vibes mixed with Prey mixed with Dishonored meets some Resident Evil restricted inventory and some very light survival/crafting like Last of Us and interconnected map feeling of " oh im back here " from Dark Souls.

Very cool game and quite a refreshing take on a quest system and I really enjoyed the mystery aspect and choosing who I felt was the best of a bad bunch to side with.

So my history with the Batman games, over the past 10-15 years, is that I've never played Arkham Asylum, or City, but have played Origins, and the last Batman game - Dark Knight? The former I never finished at the time, because I think I had hit a game glitch of some sort....and the latter never really caught on with me to the level that I somewhat enjoyed the original Spiderman game on PS4 and Miles Morales was OK too. So I'm thinking to actually play something I'll ENJOY on the PS4 Pro...where as Unmetal hasn't been that Metal Gear like experience I thought it would be, and somewhat regret purchasing it at the time....(so much for the demo being a PC exclusive and not on consoles!)

So as I finally wrapped up Oblivion yesterday and was looking for my next game I decided to clear the last game from my backlog instead of hopping into Clair Obscure. Said game is… Bugsnax.

I stumbled upon this game some time ago when I was searching for a good non shovelware trophy game. And well… shit's actually hilarious. I can't believe I'm playing this. Some kind of weird genre mix. Setting's just absurd and made me laugh a couple of times already. Gameplay is surprisingly fun.

Anyway, hope to finish this one until MGS Delta releases.

I replayed God of War 2018 and then I started getting the itch for more GoW so I replayed the original, got the platinum and now going into GoW2.

Also trying to finish up Trails in the Sky DC on Steam Deck before 1st chapter comes out.

Kind of bouncing all over.. messing with some backlog stuff, avoiding Clair Obscur. Messed with Diofield Chronicle, Triangle Strategy (not backlog though), some other new stuff put my toe in the water like Tails of Iron and Blasphemous. Nothing sticking yet, trying to find out what kind of mood I'm in - might just keep playing Heretic.

If you have a Nintendo Switch 2, I recommend the demo for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. The full game is scheduled for a 2026 release on PC and consoles. It is an Action RPG from Team Asano, the makers of Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default, and Triangle Strategy.

The demo completely sold me on the game, it's up there with RE9 and Pragmata as one of my most hype game for 2026.

Finished the Hard Mode in Ninja Gaiden Ragebound

Currently working my way through Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia and Donkey Kong Bananza

Playing Another Crab's Treasure. Artwork made me believe this was a cutesy kids platformer game, it isnt. One the best souls likes. Almost finished with it, i'm in the last area.
Also playing Darksiders III so i can get ready for the fourth one. However, playing two souls likes at the same time is exhausting so i'm also playing Rune Factory 4 in between to chill out.

Played an indie game called "Among Ashes" over the weekend, developed by a small team, buggy but the premise is very interesting.

It's a game within a game, you're playing as someone alone on christmas who gets an invite from a very Windows XP looking computer to download a PS1 looking horror game and shit goes cray from there.
