What game are you currently playing?

I completed Death Stranding 2 last evening. While the huge plot exposition at the end made my head swirl and didn't impress me that much, I'd still say it's my game of the year 2025.

Here the review Chat GPT wrote with 15 minutes of audio impression from me. I love this.

Death Stranding 2 took me by surprise. I went in with modest expectations—pleasantly remembering Kojima's ambition from the first game, but also its frustrating pacing and that infamous long walk back at the end. This sequel released in summer 2025, but I only now got around to it. And honestly, I didn't expect that it would become one of the most enjoyable games I've played in years.

Narratively, Death Stranding 2 is classic Kojima: dense lore, endless exposition, and an avalanche of strange concepts that only get stranger the closer you get to the finale. Sam travels from Mexico to Australia to reconnect the chiral network, but the plot rarely asserts itself beyond lore dumps and quirky world-building.

Everything eventually spirals into a complicated swirl of APAS, souls, presidents who aren't dead, Higgs returning, Tomorrow being Lou, and Fragile dying but… not really. By the time the massive finale hits—beautiful as it is—I felt the same way I did after the first game: impressed by the spectacle, baffled by the writing. It all feels oddly improvised, like Kojima is stitching fantasy logic together on the fly.

The result is a story that's overly convoluted and emotionally inconsistent, easily the game's weakest aspect.

Where the story falters, the gameplay absolutely shines—far beyond the first game. Delivery routes are now curated and clearly planned, creating a surprisingly addictive rhythm. Each delivery feels distinct thanks to smart terrain variety and clever environmental challenges. Upgrades arrive at a satisfying pace, and the loop of connecting areas is consistently motivating.

This is where the game becomes genuinely special:
I constantly wanted to keep playing. Even simple deliveries were compelling, and I found myself annoyed when I had to stop for the night.

Boss fights deserve special praise. Nearly every one of them—mysterious soldiers in vision-worlds, tentacled monsters, random lion-creatures, and the giant spider—was visually stunning, tightly staged, and incredibly memorable. They're rarely difficult, but the presentation is so strong it hardly matters. Kojima's team is firing on all cylinders here.

Graphically, the game is breathtaking. Vistas in Mexico, the varied Australian landscapes, snowy mountains, the twisted dream-battlefields—everything looks immaculate. The art direction elevates even mundane moments, and the major set pieces are flat-out spectacular.

Conclusion:
Death Stranding 2 is a strange experience: the story collapses under its own weight, yet the gameplay is so good—and the boss fights so consistently thrilling—that it became one of the most enjoyable games I've played in years. It even managed to edge out Clear Obscure as my personal Game of the Year for 2025.

It's easily Kojima's most fun game since the original Metal Gear Solid. I only wish the narrative had been more coherent instead of a chaos-spiral of improvised mythology.

9/10

I played some turok last nite. The og. Played the newer version on steam, though. Runs nicely on my tablet.

I actually started this a few months back. It's much as I remember it fr way back when. But it's been decades so of course it's about as familiar as a new game. Doesn't feel so much like a re-play.

Anyway so I was playing last night and I gotta say it's pretty good. The platformer aspects are not jsut randomly thrown in - it's a real design theme. Plays nicely. Few annoying things that wouldn't fly today, but nothing too serious and it's also intentional for the most part. As in - they knew about a certain janky behavior and balanced the game around it. Fun is fun, after all.

So it's at least an interesting game. It reminds me of powerslave. Powerslave was legit badass, though. I doubt this is that kind of good. I have played a few hours now, after all.

I only played powerslave recently. But I played on real hardware. I very likely have turok on n64 and I might want to play on that instead but thats kinda time wasted. How much time do I really want to give turok? I guess I'll think twice before buying one of these remakes next time.

Being done with DS2 I booted Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 this morning and… I kinda dig it. Both Henry and Hans seem like cool blokes. Always a plus when you start a game and are presented with good main characters.

Yesterday I finished Nine Sols. Incredible game, the worst snub of last year in the indie award nominations. Out of 48 hours of gameplay, 8-9 were spent in beating the final boss, one of the toughest and best in any action videogame. Totally worth it.

Xbox: My physical copy of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Gold arrived this morning, so I'll let that download while I do some work. Also been hooked on Ball X Pit. I play it in 15-20 minute chunks because I'm close to the reward point threshold for a gift card, and it's perfect for that kind of play session.

Switch 2: Played a run of Hades to see if I wanted to pick up Hades 2. I had a blast. I'm much better at action games now I guess. Picked up Hades 2 and will try it out after I knock off for the evening. Also picked up Star of Providence and Shujinkou. Trying to pace myself this year.

I finished FF Tactics and started playing Ericholm. To be honest, I'm pleasantly surprised so far. Of course, you can't call it a game for everyone, but it's very well made.

Finally got around to this and turns out... you can't skip the monologues? Weird. Even if you hit the button to see the weaknesses, you still have to wait.

I did try a regular mission too, not just random Captains running around but not any Story ones.
Well, I already finished the game since my last reply. So we can just call it a day

I finally got my hands on Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition after clearing out my backlog of important games. I'm really excited and looking forward to a long, quality marathon.

Was hoping for a digital deal on this edition from the PSN Store, but only a discount on the base game for $41.99 The DLC discounted to $22.49. Would bring the total to $64.48. Hopefully the Royal edition hits a better deal for the holiday sale on PSN.

I played a bit more Control this weekend and, man, it really is an amazing game. The story is unique and interesting, the environments and atmosphere are well made and beautiful, the gameplay is fun, you have your weapon which you can upgrade and customize, there are abilities, so far I've only unlocked the one that lets you throw objects from the environment at enemies, but I think I'll unlock others later on. The graphics are spectacular, the Ray Tracing implementation in this game is really good, the characters are interesting, and the cherry on top is the environmental destruction. You can literally cause chaos in a room and destroy almost everything, it's impressive. I've played a little over 8 hours so far and I'm still at the beginning of the game. Very good game, I recommend it.

Here are some screenshots I took. They're a bit dark because of the HDR.

I liked it a lot and Wife liked backseat driving it. The gameplay was just strong enough to support the length of the game, which is good. Not every game needs killer gameplay. It's good enough to keep you moving through the story and all the worldbuilding along the way. Maintains outstanding atmosphere, which I think is super important for most games.

Okay so according to this thread, it's been one month of playing no games newer than 30 years old. I did not try to do this.

I technically broke the streak for about 20 minutes this week, when I tried to go all high tech and play townsmen vr, but it had developed a glitch since I last played that halts progress totally. So I'm not counting that.

So I just bought the space marine games on gamebillet right now, and I would really like to play those. But with the retro streak going on a whole month now, I kinda want to keep going. I am still enjoying load runner. playing 1 to 4 levels can burn my brain out for a minute, though. I am dumb.

Oh shit. I just realized this morning I randomly threw in shadow of the ninja reborn because I saw a thread pop up on it. I played for about 20 minutes on my tablet while drinking coffee and watching youtube so I didn't remember too well. They streak is already broken!!!! Fuck!

I still feel like I could play more panzer dragoon 2. That game is the shit. I did ten hours of that 45 minute game and still felt like I was on a steady upward learning curve. I could totally play more. But it makes me want to play pd saga.
