None, they are all situational.

If i wanna try the new assassins creed because i'm an open world nut and kinda of a sadist, i'm not gonna pay for a year, just one month, same for everyone else.

I buy 99% of games i'm interested of at day one so these services are clearly not for me.

I picked Xbox for two reasons.

1) Their day one policy is fantastic and saved me loads of money
2) I get GPU in exchange for a small amount of my time on Microsoft Rewards which saved me loads of money

None. I’ll subscribe or unsubscribe based on whether there is content I want or not.

Mindlessly subscribing to a service even if you’re not benefiting from it all the time sounds insane to me.

Just to be nitpicky, could kinda argue it's not "day one" with stuff like Starfield when they started offering paid "early access" (which is de-facto day one). But still yeah, five days after "early access" is almost definitely "good enough" for 99% of people.

Only NSO because that’s the one that’s currently affordable and allows me to play MK, Smash, Splatoon and FIFA on the go.

If they try and match PS/Xbox pricing I’ll be unsubbing straight away.

YouTube music is probably the only one I can't live without. I'm not really into subscription services, they all suck imo but the ones I sub too are Netflix and PC Game Pass. I guess those suck the least. Netflix has solid documentaries and a couple of shows and movies that I like and PC Game Pass is convenient, cheap and offers day 1 releases. But if they start raising prices again I will not hesitate to cancel.

PS Plus and that's about it for now. With the price spike though, maybe that will change. Planning on joining my master race brothers in a near future.

All of these services are absolute garbage, imho.

I exclude NeoGAF Gold because I consider that more of a donation, so to speak. Like sending some money to Wikipedia from time to time.

Voted GPU and NSO. Will probably not renew NSO since I no longer play Monster Hunter online those days. Not gonna lie I will miss the old games as they are good.

GPU is more than worth it to me, even this year where I used it less I still finished 11 games on the service.

If you like a specific game and prefer to support the developer isn’t it better to buy, vice, play via subscription.?.?

None.

Unless we're talking about MMOs, in which case ESO Plus is something that I always get upon revisiting that game. Otherwise, the grind is slow and half the world is locked behind a paywall.

Honestly... none.

Just pick the couple or few that you get the most use from 🤷‍♂️ then unsub when that use is diminishing

Gamepass is the only one I'd consider a must have. PS+ is a waste of money. Nintendo is really cheap so I don't mind that but not a must have.

None. I have Gamepass through January and when it lapses I don't think I'll continue being a monthly subscriber, though I might hit and run sometimes. I see it as a replacement for video rental stores.

I've had NSO but didn't renew. Maybe if their online play wasn't bad, or the game catalog didn't grow at an anemic trickle. The game catalog always lacked important staples, leaving me in a position that I would need another device if I really wanted my retro games anyway. Most specifically lacking Super Mario RPG made me get an Anbernic (I know a remake is coming now, but I gave up waiting for it 2 years ago).

as cool as the remake looks i think its quite scummy to basically charge people 60 for it by making a remake out of it.

I don't think it's scummy to make it, it's cool. It's scummy to hold back the original game from NSO because the remake is coming. THAT is pretty scummy. But hey, they wanna be like that, I will just no longer see Switch as something that fulfills all my Nintendo needs and let my sub lapse. No problem.

Must haves: NONE
Nice to have: PS+ (When transitioning between consoles/generations, PS4->PS5 uploading all saves to cloud then down to PS5 from cloud, Is my guess)

Yes!

However...

I did vote for GPU though as I think what it offers is the chance to play lots of games that you otherwise wouldn't have even put on your radar. There is nothing more amazing in gaming than discovering a new genre or developer that you didn't know you loved and realising there are loads of games already out there that you've never even considered playing and that could now perhaps make it into your all time top 10. And as a bonus you don't even have to spend all that time and bandwidth downloading them when you can stream them.

GPU helps you to expand your gaming horizons without spending a ton of hard earned money on duds.

As prices continue to increase across all sub services, beyond just gaming. And some with an ever increasing repugnant strong arm push. I decided a while ago, to let existing long term subs end. And then simply buy a month here and there as and when there is something specific of value I want to try or watch. I'm no longer going to be tied to any long term sub, of any particular service.

The only one of those I pay for is the Nintendo one, and not because I think it offers good value, it's only because I am forced to in order to play games online (Mostly just Splatoon 3 now, but used to be a lot of MH Rise as well). It being so cheap is the only thing that helps with the fact that it's bullshit I am getting charged to use my console online. The least Nintendo could do is offer dedicated servers for some of their games if we have to pay to play online, but that is unfortunately asking too much of them. If I ever stop playing Splatoon 3 online, that sub will be cancelled.

Absolutly none. Ain’t caving to these greedy corpos anytime soon. I can control myself pretty well.

I want to play a game? i buy it, if it’s physical i sell it when it’s not worth having. That’s about it, simple and easy.

I don't have any gaming subscriptions. When it comes to online I usually only subscribe for a few months if I'm interested in an online title. However this doesn't happen very often as I'm more into single player games.

Nothing is a must have, it just depends on how you play games and what you play. If you love MP and play on PlayStatiion, for example, you need PS+ and that's it.

I don't mind subs to GPU and PS+, it saves me a lot of FOMO and, even better, buyers remorse, and gives me a good library of games. Would I buy Starfield? No chance. Will I play loads of it on Gamepass? Sure. And same for many others.

Especially as it's the only subs I have to pay - films, TV shows, music, ebooks/magazines, porn, software, that's all taken care of via torrents.

You don't need to sub there unless you really need faster download speeds. The default download speeds are pretty good and there is no other benefit.

You'd be better off showing appreciation to the individual mod authors via the donation system.
I didn’t m ow that faster download speed was an actual benefit that was part of the value…that’s disappointing.

I use the Nintendo/Sony one for save game access/storage/backup.

None. Paying for online is bullshit and has been since it’s inception. I’ve always mostly played single player games. Also I was always that kid who asked for my friends’ XBL trials and then saved them up and used them when I actually found an online game to play.

None are a must have for me. After my current subs expire I will probably go back to Gamefly if I want a gaming subscription since it covers all consoles. I will use console services on a month to month basis If I really feel like there is a month I want to use it. I will only play multiplayer on PC. At least that is the current plan. I still have a few years to decide.
