What is the best online shop to import games to the UK?

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
Lets all be honest, Uk release dates suck ass. Luckily, i live somewhere where they do sell NTSC games, but I could be moving to England (I hate England). Now, as we mentioned, UK release dates suck, so i might have to start importing, even though I may have to pay a little more. I've looked into the subject and found some decent places to order from, I just need some opinions from you guys.

dont mention videogamesplus.ca becuase I may have to import consoles and videogamesplus.ca doesn' do that.

You'd probably get a better price going through Ebay to get a US xbox.

Then Videogameplus.ca for all your software needs.

I've ordered hardware from VGD, DVD Box Office and Lik Sang in the past, though I believe VGD was under different management at the time. The VGD purchase was fine. Lik Sang was pretty good - the modded GC came through fine, but the step down converter was a shoddy piece of rubbish that ended up frying the PSU on my Japanese PS2. Stick with the official hardware from them and you'll probably be okay. DVDBO was a disaster - they took money out of my account without authorisation, lied to me about having repaid it, never fully repaid the money and insisted that if I wanted the money back, I would need to pay the additional costs incurred by their incompetence. As far as I'm concerned, every sale they lose is a victory for the human race and the day they go out of business can't come soon enough.

I was reading theough the rage and came across this information about payment:

therage.com accepts Discover/NOVUS, American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and debit cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo. (We also accept Switch and Solo debit cards via PayPal. Please see below for details.)

Your credit card will not be charged until your order is ready to ship.
You may enter your credit card number safely and securely via our secure server, which encrypts all submitted information. If you do not wish to send your credit card number over the internet, please place your order online - then, when prompted for your credit card number, you may enter "call for credit card info" in the credit card number field. We will then contact you within one business day. Note that there is no need to resend credit card info if it is desired to use the same credit card info as a previous order.

After you submit an order request, you will receive a message via email to inform you that your order request has been submitted to our order processing department. If for some reason you do not receive the confirmation message, then please notify us using the customer service message form (be sure to reference your order number). Once your order is processed and shipped, we will send you another email letting you know your order is on the way.

International customers: therage.com reserves the right to request additional identification from customers using non-US credit cards. We will contact you by e-mail should this be necessary. Your order will then be processed as soon as we receive the requested information by fax or e-mail.

I am an international customer but I own (wll, my dad does) a mastercard, so would I have to go through all the trouble that international customers have to go through or not?

You're almost certain to be asked for the extra details from any retailer if the card was issued outside the country of origin. It's an important anti-fraud step. The last vg company I know who didn't require more info was videogamesplus.ca but some twat on a UK forum started boasting about how you could rip them off a few weeks ago and they too ask for statements and/or further proof of identity now. Think it may just be for your first purchase though, tronixweb.com do it this way.

You can use Paypal instead of course.

If you want to import a console into the UK you're almost certain to get screwed on the customs charges expect 17.5% VAT + customs of ~3.5% + £10 for couriers handling charges through customs. It'd probably be safer to buy hardware from a specialist games shop within the UK unless you can e-mail the importer and get them to try and mark the box as gift or worth less than £18. Heard people have had success with NCSX when doing that.

And to cja:
Ive never been charged on VAT on imported goods, i got my US xbox through Ebay, i think after shipping it was about the same price as a UK xbox, no problems with customs. And ive got 5 import games now from videogamesplus.ca and neve been called up on VAT for any of them.

Never got caught via videogamesplus.ca or therage.com either but that's small jiffy bag stuff. I did get stung for my import GC from Lik-sang to the tune of £60 in total and have heard many stories of other getting whacked. I'd hazard a guess the Xbox you bought wasn't sent via courier? USPS its easier to get through but you'd be darn lucky if it was sent by DHL, UPS or Fedex and you didn't get hit.

sounds like its random. My GC was shipped from NYC back in 2001 with fedex. No custom fee's on it. MY DC was shipped from Lik-sang back in early 1999 with EMS SpeedPost and no custom fee on it. Some random game shipped from dvdboxoffice and custom fee on it etc.

It was UPS, i think its just down to how the sender labels it.
