Super Mario Bros on NES sold 40.24M and holds the title for best selling console game ever, though at least half of those were probably bundled with the machine. The original Pokemon set (Red, Green, Blue) is around 29 million making it the best selling handheld game ever.
It's amazing the numbers that single games used to sell back in the day. Of course, there's some amazing numbers nowadays too, but they can't compare.. simply because there are just many more games nowadays vying for people's attention/wallets..

Actually, the original game boy tetris sold around 30 million (granted, it was a pack in, but the whole concept of portable tetris was what sold the gameboy in the first place; lots of people just bought a game boy with tetris bundled in it and never bothered with anything else.)

Ouch, that does suck... compared to the original anyways. Tetris DX is just plain awesomeness. AND it saves high scores.. heh I should make an official Tetris DX high score thread..
And it should be a rule that Tetris can only be started on level 9, because it's just not right to start on a level/speed before that.

Yeah, the sales figures for some games in the NES/Famicom days in particular were incredible. Considering the development budgets for games back then, Nintendo and some of the third parties must have been making obscene amounts of cash on games, even taking into account the higher cost of media.
