Freshman on a bachelor degree in business and administration. Considering switching to engineering in nanotechnology. Anyone have any experience from this path in engineering?

Your marks will have to be really fucking high. I had a 94% average and got rejected =(. A lot of unis have nanotechnology programs that just started this year so you'll probably be paying a pretty damn high tuition to pay for all the new equipment.

B.S. - Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.
Graduated Cum Laude.

Once I got to the real world I was only being offered low entry-level sales jobs so I went back to University and got a Paralegal certificate, which helped a lot and got me a much better job. I'm currently evaluating my career options to blend my skills and either transition into more of the finance side (getting my CFA) or going to law school.

By the end of this semester I will have a BS in Management and Finance Management from Cal State Long Beach.

Me too, along with a minor in Economics.

Right now I'm doing a law degree. God, I'm so sick of school.

Well, I'm a senior in high school right now, but I plan to double major in Computer Science and Mathematics.

I'm graduating with a B.M. in piano performance this spring. The high-level classes are killing me, but I should still get cum laude honors. I plan on going on to graduate school.

You sure about that? :p Wait until you realize how much work that is.

Did Mechanical Engineering specializing in heat transfer and fluid mechanics.

I'm sure. ^_^

First year in college and I'm a Computer Science major. I'm finding that I'm not as interested in it as I thought I would be and I can't imagine spending the rest of my life sitting in front of a computer and coding shit all day.

Can anyone tell me about accounting? Yes, I'll check it out myself, but hearing from people who majored in it already would help much more.

heh, seems to be a common tune among CS people.

Just wondering, if the people with the philosophy are graduates, what are you doing now? Don't mean to be condesending, just wondering.

I just read through the first two pages. :lol

I have until this Friday to drop classes. Are there any repercussions to dropping the class that you're majoring in? I know my mother will be pissed and I usually listen to what she says, but fuck that. I don't want to ruin my life.

Edit: Another thing. I missed the first test in my CS class this semester. My teacher said that whatever grade I get on my final will also be used as the grade for my first test. If the final is anything like the one she gave last semester, there will be a bunch of shit on it that she hasn't even taught us.

I'm doing CS but I think I might actually graduate. I've been doing 17+ credit hours since freshman year. I have taken almost every math class in college offered to non math majors and I am expected to be able to program in any language I am asked to. School itself is a stupid waste of time but programming isn't so bad, I think. If it is I'll just go back to school and get another degree. How hard could it be?

For people who hate programming and love computers take CIS. It is like CSE for business minded people (read: people who go out and drink on Friday nights instead of doing homework)

This is in Norway, free education ftw! I dont know what my marks has to be, its a program that is starting this fall. Thought it would be fun to be one of the first engineers in Norway with a degree in nanotechnology as well as starting and developing the student association (do you even have that in the rest of the world?).

Guess ill have to see what marks are required...

How many people here actually got jobs in their field, i know about ten people that went the political science, philosophy, art, etc bullshit degrees and they either work at pizza hut or live at home with their parents.

Is college a waste unless you want to be a teacher or an accountant?

Nobody still has a major that touches mine Physical Education. It is funny to see many of the people on here have the same type of majors, surely im not the only person that plays sports here.

I'm a junior accounting major right now. I have a basic grasp of accounting, but I'm by no means an expert. There are many fields in accounting, but the one you are probably most familiar with is financial accounting. Financial accounting focuses on preparing statements for external users. The statements include the balance sheet, income statement, statement of shareholder's equity and statement of cash flows.

Cost accounting focuses on gathering information meant for internal users. You determine how much it costs to run a business and management makes decisions based on that information. There are also many other branches in accounting such as income tax, auditing, and so forth.

Accounting is fairly difficult to learn. There are many rules that have to be remembered, and the rules do change fairly often. Accountants are in constant demand thanks to Sarbanes Oxley. If you do become an accounting major, you will have a decent job after you graduate.

At the business school I go to, you only have three chances to take a class. If you drop or fail a class three times and it is your major, you will have to get a new major. I don't know how your school does things. You will want to speak to a department head about that.

You realize you are on GAF? the GAMING-Age Forum? A message board for gamers. Who are coming here to discuss a social unacceptable hobby(outside sports/gta stuff which the majority of gaf are into the more "hardcore" games instead/as well as those) for geeks?

BS in Computer Science - it was ok, but the job market is terrible
Currently halfway thru with my MBA in Finance, then will either continue with PHd in Finance or Law School...then later down the line maybe another masters in history..we shall see

I feel left out. :( Can someone direct me to the dum summa bitch thread for those of us without any college degree?

I fear this will be me at some point in the near future. Although honestly I'd rather be delivering pizzas than move back home......then again, I seriously doubt delivering pizzas would pay all the bills, let alone leave a little money left over. LE SIGH
