Rewatched this on the weekend for the first time since my childhood. Man, I miss these Joe Dante 80's movies.

I tried to make a proper list but I ended up just writing endlessly not wanting to leave any films out, lol. There are too many great films to name.

A short list of films I admire:
Schindler's List
City of God
The 400 Blows
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's List
Jaws

You could ask me tomorrow and I'd list a different set of films...

of course there are too many favorite movies, but if I have to pick just one, that would be

Terminator1984movieposter.jpg

yes - the first one.

Too hard to name one, but a few favorites are:

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
Ghostbusters
Evil Dead 2
Aliens
Pulp Fiction
Terminator 2

For some reason I have a hard time putting more modern movies in there, even though there really are quite a few brilliant new films. Nostalgia I guess, I've seen so many movies that even the most brilliant new ones simply can't make the same impact like the ones of my youth. I should really re-evaluate the way I view movies it seems.

Ok, so for me..favourite is a very different question than best. Also, my favourites list is pretty liquid, so they change from time to time.

In no particular order,

Spirited Away

Before Sunrise/Sunset

Blade Runner

The Shawshank Redemption

The Batman Begins/Dark Knight duology

The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Wall-E

Rear Window

2001

The Matrix

Can't narrow it down to three, i think top 10 is a better number.

(in no order)

Memento
Mulholland Drive
Days of Heaven
Oldboy
Donnie Darko
Inception
2001: A Space Oddysee
Days of Being Wild
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Before Sunrise

This is what i came up with and that was hard to narrow down =P

Without a doubt...

I tend to watch it annually, and have watched it well over twenty times. The first time was in 1986-87, when I was 11-12.
I own four different versions of it (VHS, DVDx2, BR), the soundtrack, and this poster I got from my parents for xmas when I was 15-16.

The rest, which vary from time to time.

EDIT: I forgot to include a movie about WWII, which I've always found a thoroughly interesting subject. Here's a one I find aesthetically beautiful, yet questionable content-wise.

So hard to pick just one.

The Prestige
Casino Royale
The Matrix
Gladiator
Batman Begins
The Departed
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

To name a few.

Impossible to answer, but here are some of my favorites:

- The Big Lebowski
- Star Wars 5
- Indiana Jones 3
- Shawshank Redemption
- Lord of the Rings 3
- La Grande Vadrouille
- Amélie
- The Life of Others
- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

1. Amadeus
2. Dancer in the Dark
3. Duel

There are probably others I'm forgetting, but those are what instantly pop into my head at the thought of "favorite movie."

Hmm...my top 10 tends to remain the same, only the placements are different or a new contender will appear once in a while.

Right now:

Fellowship of the Ring (LoTR)
Once Upon a Time in the West
Mulholland Drive

The Big Lebowski. There are certainly plenty of movies that I consider better, but for me The Big Lebowski is the most rewatchable of all my favorites.

It's weird how everyone that concedes to narrow it down to three has a top three that I really can appreciate...Reminds me of an epic music thread where people had to narrow it down to one single album that turned out to be fantastic.

Garden State
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
The Empire Strikes Back
X-Men First Class
Blade Runner
SLC Punk

1. WALL-E. The best from the great Pixar. I grew up on space operas, and this happens to mix it with an adorable romance story.

2. Tron: Legacy. I just posted in the LTTP thread, but I just love this movie's action, CG, and soundtrack.

3. Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It's not about glorifying truancy, stealing a vintage Ferrari, impersonating a celebrity, hijacking a parade, accidentally starting up a bogus donation campaign, and getting away with it in the end (at least until the next day). It's about getting out and enjoying the finer things in life. Get out there and do something instead of just going day-to-day.
