What is your favorite movie?

I consider myself kind of a film asshole; I like movies with visual flair and themes and moving acting and shit. But my number one is a masterpiece that doesn't really need anything else:

This is a surprisingly easy question for me.

Waltz with Bashir: Trailer

No movie has pulled me out of my comfort zone, changed my expectations, made me think I'm not just watching a film (that fucking ending), or made me cry as much.

The pacing is genius. It starts off as a relatively easy watch for an animated war docudrama with plenty of classic synth-pop and punk music, vignette stories from characters, stunning imagery, and mood breaks. Then the last half after the dead horses drops, the whole tone changes. No more licensed music. No longer are you desensitised to just watching the events of this documentary unfold, you're in it with the filmmaker/protagonist. It's now a laser focus on what actually happened that day. It's now a psychological thriller. What and why can't Ari Folman remember that day.

It's a perfect case of what soldiers with PTSD go through, forgetting incredibly traumatic whole days of their lives. Having hallucinations and retrograde amnesia. It changes from an animated recounting of a war to something else I wouldn't spoil. Incredibly powerful. No other film has had as close to an emotional affect on me.

Absolute #1 (likely never to be topped): Jurassic Park

And then plenty of other favorites that can vie equally for spot #2.

1) Happy Together - Kar Wai

2) Chungking Express - Kar Wai

Okay I haven't seen very many people answer this one at all:

...and just a few years ago a lot of people would have had this answer along with me, and I think it's because of this:

Dude for much of my life people included Raider's as one of their favorites. So does this thread lead back to that other thread?

Everybody still loves the old Indy movies. In fact, I would put Last Crusade and Raiders as my #2 and #3 favorites of all-time.

When I buy the Indiana Jones Collection Blu-Ray this September, I will be using Kingdom as a coaster.

Alot of these are good, but is this more about movies you can watch over and over again? or just like the top movies ever?

I'd say:

1. The fountain
2. Jackie Brown
3. Labyrinth
4. Jurassic Park
5. Gladiator
6. Incredibles

Hmmm. In that order? Ah well I shall not quibble, we are more alike than unalike.

Nostalgia affects this poll. No movie can ever effect me the way Raiders did on that 8-year-old boy who started out pouting because he really wanted to go see Clash of the Titans when his mom insisted on some stupid religious movie.

Thanks, mom.

It's more painful that The Departed is anywhere in your top 20, let alone #1 :(

Hahah =P

I just think it's the ultimate movie for me. Before I could praise it, I'll just say the editing is quite laughable sometimes.
But the script, the performances and about everything else makes it the perfect movie for me. When you have a film that envolves such great actors working together, and most of their scenes are composed of great dialogues between each other, you'll win me over easily.
I wish the ending had been different, but it's still fucking perfect in it's own rights.

Aside from having possibly the best action sequences in recent memory, this movie shaped my sense of humour into what it is today. Simply a perfect movie that only gets better with time.

I honestly couldn't decide which of these I liked best, so all three are here. Toy Story was the first movie I ever saw in theatres (at age 2), and I played the VHS so many times I wore out the tape. These movies are so pure, beautiful and witty that they basically are my childhood.

I've seen this film so many times that I can honestly quote every line from beginning to end. Great comedy, stylish action and some great visuals make this a movie to see.

I adore both Alien and Aliens, so it was hard to choose which one made it in, but I eventually went with the sequel if only because it has a bigger buildup for more payoff and much better characters. Even as a huge sci-fi nerd this is my favourite film of the genre.

One of my favourite actors+one of my favourite directors+one of my favourite writers=one of my favourite films.

My favorite movie ever. I've watched it so many times and it's just as enjoyable every single time. The part of the movie when Rafiki finds out that Simba is still alive is like my favorite moment ever

I can't decide so I'm going with the ones i have re-watched the most:
