What is your view if Sony makes MMO games?

They used to have such a good relationship with Level-5, that made Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, White Knight Chronicles and Ni No Kuni.
Apparently Sony threw all that away, since now Level-5 seems more interested in Switch and Mobile apparently.
Currently Sony just much more focus on western games which most of them are not all that exciting for me. I no longer really hype for Sony first party games like I used back in PS1, PS2 and even PS3.

SOE was pretty much standalone and had nothing to do with the Sony console business. Sony sold them off in 2015.

Sort of. When they were under SPE they were treated like any third party. When SCEA took them over towards the end of their life they were then considered first party and they would handle stuff like the support for PS Home (they also did FFXI before SE took that over).

Yeah, PS3 was the last console that had some really unique and charming games from them.
With the PS4 they decided to play too safe and focus mostly on AAA and marketing.
The current Sony western line up feels like MCU in Hollywood movies, everything blending together, but for now I just have to relay on third party games to get my fix for my Japanese gaming when it comes Playstation.

Pc is popular because it has all kind of different games. MMO is one of the popular genre for pc.

Would you like Sony to make MMO based game?

no.

They already did some amazing ones and its all in the past.

They are correct to move on

I guess ff14, guild war 2, eso, new world aren't mmo. There are alot new mmo that is getting released this year, and next year.

Crimson desert is getting released in the future too.

Never said anything like that King relax lol

They also aren't SONY made MMOs either. Thats the point of your thread and I love Guild War 2 back in the day and understand the love for FF14, but niether are made by Sony to be relevant. Its just saying many great ones exist sure, but this thread is about Sony making em bud. I'm not debating if they exits or are good etc lol

So I stand by my point. They did some good ones, its in the past, they are correct to move on.

At the very least offer up some fucking teams they should buy to get back to that glory as my comment is based on how Sony is TODAY, not some weird ass dream or fanfiction of what ifs. We need a bit more to see the point King, thus far its a weird wish vs real speculation, discussion etc. Logical reason exist why its a no for many. Change their minds, bring up other teams that do great MMOs is irrelevant to the question asked, unless its saying Sony should buy those teams to then do MMOs again or something then you have some crazy speculation and something to talk about.

I don't know how Sony of today with no team to really do something like this, makes sense. My view is they don't have a team to do this, they did in the past.....they are correct to move on lol

LOLz aside.

I'd like Sony to make one if the following occured

They bought Pearl Abyss
and they bought miHoYo lol

As people have said, Sony (through SOE) used to make MMOs.

Microsoft was working on an Marvel MMO during the lead up to the 360. That was cancelled, and the developer (Cryptic Studios) took the work they did and turned it into Champions Online.
Damn you for making me remember this almost was a thing lol I remember all of that now, da memories!
No, what I really want to see is Sony make first party JRPG like they used to, Nintendo has their own first party studio like Monolith Soft making JRPG for them why cant Sony?
First...make a thread about Danjin, like really fucking make that a thread vs derailing this one as its a topic worth one as I don't wish to derail Kings thread.

Second...semi-ot, but Sony has tried many times and I think during the PS4 gen they were correct to just let that shit go. It didn't work during the PS1, PS2 and PS3 gen with those titles (WildArms, Arc Da Lad, Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, White Knight Chronicles lol dat name sounds like a thread on NeoGaf were they just shit on members that think are shilling for companies and simping and shit lol yesssssssss) either way, they just didn't work out so I'm not shocked during the PS4 gen they simply let that go.

Make the thread and they will come lol

my bad about that. I hope Sony can produce some of these mmo.

The great thing about mmo is the community. Yuo feel like you belong in there. You communicate with a guild mate, chat in global chat, and have fun.

Sony had SOE which had many large scale PC games, but they sold it off.

Sony's first party gaming strategy is SP narratives and GT as the key games. Then Dreams, baseball and some small scale Astro games. Sony gave up on racers (except for GT), no more shooters, no more PC MMOs, JRPGs, they even bailed on fighting games after one attempt in All Stars.

The money is in the games they focus on now which are heavily skewed to western audiences on console.

Nah....
They would make something totally generic like most other MMOs these days.
Also, I don't think they work well on consoles, where typing require some digital keyboard application.
Besides... I've already sold my soul on GW2. Once someone is stucked in an MMO, it's hard to jump, try, or even talk good about another one.

NP King.

I just remembered that PS Home thing that they used to have, though not a MMO like a game, it had many social options like one. With Sony putting in effort on the PC end, I see them playing a wait and see on doing an MMO made to be cross platform from the start, sorta like how they started last gen with DCU. Cross Platform I'm not even sure if people even really, really..REALL care about it, or just cry about it for clicks, views etc. Sony had a whole ass game play for that for generations and it seemed like no one really cared all that much, I forget even when playing games that had cross platform, but if they are going to do the whole PC and console focus at once, a MMO makes sense for that concept and can get them into the whole GAAS as they are also looking into that too.

They just need to create a development team with a history of networking stuff, or they need to buy a team that does MMOs right now currently as I think they are correct to drop SOE, not because MMOs are not good....but because the MMOs they made at the time was not good lol

Even that Genshin MMO that is all over the place now, if they can get that Gravity Rush art style, solid gameplay and many developers that worked on some MMOs, they can have a hit. Its a market filled with hit or miss though, like for ever Genshin, there is like 100 fails or something lol

StreetsofBeige StreetsofBeige "The money is in the games they focus on now which are heavily skewed to western audiences on console." nah, I'd say they are very spread out and many hits happen and many misses happen too, they are going based on what works and what doesn't, but that is how Sony has always worked tbh.

Sony is literally currently working on KOTOR as the formed some team to work with Asypr, they are also working on a new FPS title by the ex Call Of Duty devs and they did other racing games outside of GT aka the best game ever, destruction all stars GOTY winner bud lol (that last part is a complete lie, but you get my point)

So Its hard to even say they bailed on this or that, they barely did some of that, none of it was ever a deep staple or massive hits or something like that. So bailed on Fighting games or bailed on All Stars? Why buy Evo? So I think this is a bit too exaggerative and it turns anything IP they stop making into a "they bailed on this genre" and it might have been more so based on that one IP doing poorly.

Days Gone 2 didn't get greenlit, you telling me they bailed on 3rd person RPGs too? So I try not to see that as some policy change and consider it might be based on the indvidual game itself, a game being from the west doesn't mean they will ignore bad sales and keep making it or something. So I don't think their strategy is simply SP narratives, I think those games organically did well and Sony's strategy was to keep support those games that did well lol That might really be all there is to this.

Honestly I would love to see Sony try and give something like PlayStation Home another shot with the advancements in Hardware. They could mix it up by allowing PSVR2 to be integrated alongside alongside regular users. Allow people to create party's and launch games direct from there and your golden.

As for a more traditional MMO like ever quest or whatever... I'm not so sure Sony have it in them... maybe something more like Freerealms.

SoE made one of my favorite MMO off al time; StarWars Galaxies.

Man the stories I could tell.

Did you know that the game launched without speeders or player cities because the SWORDSMAN skill was given a higher priority?

The Jedi system before the CU was hilariously random.

Each character upon creation had eight masteries randomly generated in their object variables. Before the CU and the change to Jedi unlocking, the only way to unlock Jedi was to master those 8 professions. The holocrons they put in the game would tell you one of them. Before the holocrons people were just trying to master everything, but when the holocrons went in people realized it was 5-10, it was 8. But since Jedi were unlocking so slowly devs changed it to 6 before the CU and changes to Jedi went in.

And the "first Jedi", who famously went on an interview tour with blogs at the time, really wasn't the first Jedi unlocked in the game. I believe that person was a female Zabrak. The first Jedi ever legitimately unlocked in SWG was a Mon Cal player on Bria who never went public for the attention. The guy just quietly grinding crafting in the basement of his house on Naboo.

It should not matter who makes a game, the quality of the final product is what matters.
