Not sure if I ever asked this on this thread or not, but is the battling in Shadow Hearts easier then it seems? That bar that's used to fight looks very annoying, especially since its for every move (at least that's what I see).
So is the Shadow Hearts battling good even with that circle bar? Want to know if this game is worth the purchase.

Understandable. Most jRPGs are designed for a target audience that just doesn't exist in significant numbers outside of Japan.
Personally? Really, really dig the art from LUCT's remake.
It's basically turned based with twist. Most every attack requires you to use the spinner, some attacks are harder to hit than others, as you might expect. The spinner also adds a couple of related status effects in the game, like double speed or random speed for the dial, both obviously negative effects. There are also ways to increase the amount of hits you get, IIRC, or otherwise manipulate to spinner for your advantage.
But really, the main draw to Shadow Hearts - the first one anyway - are the horror like elements. The second game is a better game in my opinion, due to some better sidequests, slight tweaks to the ring mechanics, extra content, progression systems, magic and etc, but it removes a lot of the horror from the first game.
If you don't care for turn based, you likely won't like Shadow Hearts battle system.

Yeah, there are of course exceptions too. Since the designs tend to be very detailed and intricate, JRPGs also have some of the most memorable designs - in both positive and negative ways.
Shit man, that's like 3 of the best RPGs ever right there.
The Judgment Ring is one of the better systems in a turn based JRPG.

Well, at the time that Grandia 2 was newish I was on Cam Clarke overload. He's not really in much these days, so it's kind of a different story.
The voice acting is a notch up from the first game, although that's not much of an accomplishment.
So far I'm enjoying it. As I said earlier, I had to go PS2 version. The camera panning (with the shoulder buttons) is quite slow, but I can deal.
I just finished Growlanser IV: Wayfarer of Time. I fucked up good. Wanted to get an ending with Eliza purely because she was one of the most competent and likeable characters for the early parts of the game and I kept her in my party for so long but those Furlough Quests just shits all over what I want. I dislike using guides on first time playthroughs so I ended up with
. Also, I failed to save so many people.
I want to go through NG+ and get some of the stuff I missed (read: Everything furlough or text choice required) but I'm not sure I can stomach it. The escort quests in particular are some of the worse I've played. It is good in the sense that they need to you to prioritize your targets and think, but the amount of times my companion just runs to the enemy and gets mauled is ridiculous. Even hobbled Cerya in Tactics Ogre is more pleasant. The fact that there is no Retry Battle option is also pretty disappointing.
Any way. I quite enjoyed this game. It tested my patience for a while but it really is quite good and if you're a fan of anime and waifus definitely give it a shot.

I was a bit of a late bloomer when it came to the PSP, so just recently I got done with Jeanne d'Arc, which was really nice. I thought the graphics and animations were amazing, and although it was loosely set on the actual Joan of Arc story, I liked that the setting remained quite accurate.

If we're talking extra reaction type systems in turn based games then yes, SH's system is pretty much best. Beats Lost Odyssey, Legend of Dragoon,... Well, there aren't many but still. Personally I still prefer it when there's no reaction-based stuff.

I was kind of let down with that twist. I mean I already knew what it was but the way they brought it up wasn't, I don't know, dramatic enough imo. Just felt no impact when it happened.
Anyway, ordered Fire Emblem Awakening last night. Going to take at least a week to get here, though. I probably got spoiled on a plot twist a while back, when some idiot thought it'd be clever to post a picture of one character from FE in a thread about relateable villains or something.
Lufia II is so, so good. Dem dungeons. Definitely the best RPG on snes after CT and Terranigma.
I actually think it's good game even if you aren't fan of these things. Honestly, despite the porn tastic character design, i don't think there is THAT much focus on fanservice and waifus. The plot has a lot of focus on politics and there is quite a number of male characters around.
It is a good game but there is a bonus if you want some waifus. Some of the character building is quite nice but overall the political side of the story is kind of average. It is more of a setting for the main plot but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. Also, not all the character designs are oozing flesh, some of them are a bit more conservative. I quite like Meline, Silverneil and Pamela in this regard.
Next time, you will be mine Pamela. We will continue where we left off in the ruined village. I know where your tea set is now. :3

I thought about picking up .hack//Infection and .hack//Mutation up, but I found the opinions on the games conflicting.
Care to share your opnion on them?
I've started the game two days ago and it feels very appropriate. You get used to it very quickly and it brings a certain interesting flavor to the turn-based combat. I'm in Dalian, by the way.
The fighting really, really sucks, but the story, characters and overall setting are reason enough for me to continue. It's something unique visually, at least. I suggest just playing through Infection, and if you like it, pick up the other 3 in that series (Mutation, Outbreak and Quarantine).
From what I played of the second series (.hack//G.U), I like that more gameplay wise. It's a much more modern game. Plus you can see the beginnings of CC2's ridiculously good animations and celshading in that (which really blossomed in their Naruto games on PS3)

Right now I'm about 11 hours into The "DENPA" Men 2 Beyond the Waves. Such a fun JRPG for the 3DS. Highly recommend this one, even if you've never played the first one. As a matter of fact, you can just skip the first one and go straight into this game.
Also, playing through Pokemon Emerald for the who knows how manyith time. Just arrived in Dewford Town in order to deliver a letter to Steven.

I will pick up Infection and see if I like it - then I might pick up the rest in the series.
the first 3 in the original series are cheap, the 4th one is a holy grail.

I just checked the prices online, and in Europe these games are goddamn expensive. I don't know, I can get the first two games pretty cheap in a store, but the last two are just too pricey in Europe. Am I correct in the assumption that all four games are like one big story?

Playing EO IV right now. I just made it to the second land and am digging it for the most part. I do see a healthy amount of lvl grinding in my future with this game. Its killing my "Four in June" goal 
I may have to put it down for a bit to finish some of the other games I had intended on finishing this month, games that I have a feeling will not take nearly as long to finish.

I got them all for about 30 - 39 euros a pop. And yeah, they form one story. The individual games are all about 10 to 15 hours long

What JRPGs have the most universal appeal? Something that even a western RPG lover can like? I used to love JRPGs as a kid back on PSone/2 and SNES, but as I get older I just can't get into them as easily as before. Maybe because that was all we had back in the day on consoles, and nostalgia is affecting me.

Why can't you get into them? Is it the combat or the story and characters? I mean, JRPGs comes in a million different flavors.
You want exploration? Xenoblade Chronicles!
You want a fast-paced combat system? Might wanna check out Tales of Graces f.
For some great characters and story, you could try Persona 3/4.

The first 3 quests are the best ones (Will, Chloe and Norma*). Grune (last one) is nice too, though a little long.
I wish more games adopted this game/quest structure.

And with some insufferably bad dungeons, unfortunately.
They are not that bad, and you can speed up the whole game with the last patch.
