what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Spent this morning cleaning a bundle of SNES carts with Deoxit and q-tips. Decided to start this game. About 90 minutes in so far and really enjoying it!

A few hours into xenoblade. Playing it on dolphin, love the graphics but sound crackling is nagging at me and thinking about just going to Wii. It is kind of crazy that I am considering the massive loss in graphical fidelity just to avoid a very slight crackling and pops.

And finishing up smt4 on 3ds, really don't love it as much as everyone else.

I'm knee deep in Bravely Default right now. Playing it for the first time. It's god damn fantastic.

The Brave/Default system is simple, but adds a fantastic layer of strategy in battles, and the jobs are great. I love that I'm early on, and it's already going off script and giving me bananas jobs like "merchant".

Bravely Default is what I wish FF as a series was.

There's a patched version of dolphin that fixes 95% of the sound issues

Edit: I'm running Dolphin 3.0-766-XBHLE31_L102_X64_ICC from

I'm 50 hours into Xenoblade. I'm kind of just ready for it to end at this point.

Unless you did close to no sidequests, that's not even close to end!
I was ready too, around 50-60 hour mark, it was not the end, no. (><)

Trying to play Ar Tonelico Qoga again. Not sure I can do this. I liked the first game, second not so much, but this one seems too much for me. It's ruined to the core, isn't it? Or it's gets better ever, at least combat gets better, right? right?

Tons of them right now for me:

-Dragon Quest IX
-TWEWY
-Eternal Sonata
-Pokemon Soul Silver
-Bowser's Inside Story
-Final Fantasy IX (I'm on my 5th playtrough right now, if I remember my childhood right)

Tales of Xillia.

I'm enjoying it, about 20 hours in. There's a few things I miss from previous Tales game however. The big one being weapon synthesis.

I'm burning through SMT4 in my spare time, but I'm seriously debating picking up an import 3DS and Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland. It'd cost me about $250, but I would also be able to pick up the DQM: Cobi and Tara remake and the DQ7 remake.

Royally hate the Region Locking BS, btw.

Does infinite space count as a JRPG?

Because it's more like a space sim with JRPG influences.

Anyways I fucking love this game. Poured 14 hours into it over a day and a half.

Another one for Team Xillia. Finished Milla's side the other day and after grinding up a bunch of high level materials and stupid feathers, I'm finally starting Jude's side.

Yeah, that's what I figured considering there's a ton of normal random enemies in that first area you go to
the pretty green field, I think it's called bionis leg?
that I still am no where near being able to kill. I'm at level 47. I've been playing this game off and on since February :/.

It's definitely a JRPG in my book, and yeah, it's a neat one at that. Can get a bit repetitive and grindy, but it's an engrossing game all the same. Perhaps a little too big for its own good, though.

Any tips on how to beat the final boss of Dragon Quest IX? I've been stuck there for a while now, which is sort of funny, since I've been blasting through all the earlier bosses with ease (including
the dragon right before that
). I'm trying to grind a bit more, but it takes too much time and isn't really helping.

No part of Infinite Space even resembles a space sim (you don't actually pilot a spaceship like in Wing Commander, X-Wing or whatever else). It's definitely a JRPG with some Star Control-esque elements.

Need a break before even considering starting up Eternal Punishment (if I do at all...that gameplay...)

So I started this up on Vita!

Doubt I will make it very far but it pleasantly holds up quite well barring some framerate issues and slight loading. Such a cheerful game.

Playing Eternal Sonata. I'm about to do the optional dungeon before the final area of the game.

Man, to this day, Grandia is still one of my favorite RPGs. Such a grand adventure! Keep with it until the end. It's such a great game, and the battle system is out of this world. My favorite battle system to date as well.

Soul Hackers. There can never be enough cyberpunk RPGs for me.

I've been playing this too, it's the oldest out of the SMT games that I've played, so it definitely feels clunky... but I really love the cyberpunk style of it. Don't like how demons can disobey you or how at least at the point I'm at (just beat the frozen warehouse), most of the demons are useless in the back.

Finished Harmony of Silver Star. While Xseed translation and VA were excellent (WD fanboys be damned) the game suffered massively from a gameplay angle, it's simply too easy to the point it plays itself. I also didn't remember how little character Alex had, ah.

You can pretty much spam special techniques in the very short dungeons, since you never run out of MP. Even the final boss was a complete and utter joke, while the PSX version was fairly challenging and made you count every MP-Refill item.

Now I started FFIV DS. I don't have a high opinion of FFIV and its story honestly (in fact, I think it's pretty dumb), but it's the kind of game I need right now.

YEAHHHHH BACK SONS
after a 3 week ban ! shiett .

remember , through the powah of zyzz i'm still lurkin .

huehuehue

currently playin Ni No Kuni , and i must say it is one heck of a superb traditional jrpg .

Near the end of Resonance of Fate. I really enjoyed it. One of my favorite JRPGs this gen.

got any tips for people on this game ? I have this , can't seem to get pass that floor near the mechanists

Final Fantasy 6. Started it a couple of times but never came very far into the game. So last week I started it and I'm determined to finish it this time.

Xenoblade. Got it when it came out in 2011, still working my way through it. I'm at about 100 hours almost, and apparently I only just passed the halfway mark about 8 hours ago.

I finished Ys Oath in Felghana on PSP recently, I was hoping to move onto Tales of Xillia (which I received today), but it might be a while before I can properly start on it. Still sealed!

Playing Persona 3 FES and I'm currently 50 hours in- most of that time has been spent through fusions and trying to get the s.links. I'm really hyped up for Persona 4 now- when I eventually pick it up, I'll have to go with the ps2 version though.

Started another playthrough of Sacred Stones while I wait for a copy of Devil Survivor Overclocked to arrive. Doing Ephraim's path this time. I forget how Sacred Stones is like Shakespeare compared to Awakening's dialogue. Loved that game, but good Lord, the writing was bad.

Xenoblade on Wii (well, dolphin). Good lord I am loving this game. Just got through the ether caves and while the story and characters are meh, the music and environments are stunning. I am really enjoying the combat but still haven't quite mastered it yet.

My biggest problem with the combat is that it just seems so hectic in big battles. When I am facing small number of normal enemies it is fine, but when trying to keep track of health, buffs and debuffs, cool down timers, talent gauges, and aggro in big fast battles I just get totally lost.

Jeanne d'arc on vita. Finished first story mission in second chapter. People say this game is stupid easy but I am having to grind once between each mission so far. I guess I just suck at srpgs? Its OK, I am really liking it, but that does make me worry about how I will do with harder games like fe, fft, etc. Guess I can always grind if necessary.

Fire Emblem: Awakening, pretty much the only thing I play on my 3DS.
And Tales of Xillia. Really digging the combat, as well as the fantastic anime cut scenes. Shame that there are not more of them.

Which tales game is a good place to start from? I kinda wanna get into the series (I tried before but it didn't click, forgot what game though, I think it was the one on the GameCube)

I have a copy of Xillia lying around here somewhere, should I start with that?

Xillia is my first personally. The story stands on its own and is easy to grasp.

Just started Trinity Universe over the weekend and got through the first couple of chapters for both characters. Pretty fun and amusing so far.

I've been playing Xenoblade off and on. Still working my way though that game and I'm about 50 hours in.

I've been spending a lot of time recently with Shin Megami Tensei IV. This game is amazing, and I'm only about 6 hours in. The battle system is the most rewarding yet the most punishing system out there. I can get a drop on a group of enemies, exploit all of their weaknesses for extra turns and wipe them out before they can even move. But at the same time, if I get jumped, and one of my party has a weakness, I'm instant toast.

And, of course, Pokemon White 2. It seems like I'm always playing this.

About 10 or so hours into The Last Story. Honestly wasn't the best start to a game and I pretty much don't like any of the characters, mostly due to their voices. Dagran is a poor man's Balthier. The battle system is fun but spoilt due to the terrible camera. And the framerate, oh boy. I will finish this though. I was looking forward to this for a while but so far it's been very average.

Banana arrows are quite funny though.

Final Fantasy VII.

I'm replaying it for the first time after completing it when it was first released on the PS1. It's been so long since I first played it that much of it is new to me and has me questioning if I actually played it at all!

Some of the character CGI animation hasn't stood the test of time. In some places, like the escape from the Shinra building, it has ended up looking hilarious. Barret's walking (running?) animation especially so. The CGI models for Cloud, Aries and Sephiroth look like elvish knock-offs, though the in-game models are as adorable as they ever were. Love 'em.

FF VII was my first JRPG. I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing back then and I doubt I understood many of the mechanics or do's and do not do's (e.g: it's not a great idea to only level up four of the characters ¬_¬). Now that I'm older and know my way around games better, most of what's required of me in FF VII comes naturally and so I am better able to appreciate. It's funny because I only started playing it as I'm waiting for GTA V and didn't want to buy anything in the meantime, but have ended up really enjoying my time on it. I wonder if FF IX is available on PSN too...

I tried to play it, and it is kinda funny, but battle system does not work for me. I can't point out what's bad about it, just isn't fun. May be it gets better later. I like all exploring intricacies though and world is insane in a good way.
