what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Shin Megami Tensei IV. Torn on this game. It can be really enjoyable one moment and then hair pulling frustrating the next. Not the battles but how the game is designed overall, especially the damn overworld map.. I actually think I had more consistent enjoyment with Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers by comparison.

So I'l be diving into Pokemon X and likely restarting and finally finishing Radiant Historia.

Ha, just saw your post, as you can see below, I agree.

It was SMT IV until I got to the point where I just can't fucking stand the overwold map.

WORST.MAP.EVER.

Seriously, worst map ever conceived in the entire world. No labels, can't pan/scan and at least look to where you need to go, it's like somebody took every good map idea in the past 30 years of JRPGs and made sure NOT to include them.

I was enjoying the game up until that point. Never thought a fucking map would cause so much hate towards a game. Will never play another SMT game again and I wish nothing but bad things upon the creator of the map.

Star Ocean, the last hope international yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. it's good :)

Filth and Lies.

I recently played and finished Trails in the Sky. I racked up over 40 hours in about 3 days, so that should tell you whether I liked it or not. Cannot wait for SC now (and secrelty glad I played it now and not when it came out). Before that I platted Tales of Xillia, and started Star Ocean 4 again, but burnt out by the Cardianon Mothership. I also got Dragon's Dogma (kinda counts, ish) on PS+, but I barely started that.

In non-JRPGs, I decided to start up Skyrim again to do the DLC after my 150-hour save corrupted a year or so ago. I think the year and a half break is allowing me to enjoy the game again, and being a Vampire Lord has been fun. I also rolled an Argonian so I didn't have to worry about trying to make my character look attractive, which is basically impossible in that game.

I've finished FF Tactics i got WAY easier after the first chapter. I had a group of Brawler Ninjas/dancers. Things got interesting in the final boss in chapter 3 didn't see that coming, died twice. When i got to chapter 4 I started looking up how to get the secret characters Cloud and Baltheir (OP by the way). Then i killed off my regulars to main them. Final section wasn't too bad Although im not sure how I got there i mean the plot lost me with all the new people they kept introducing.

Im now doing a first run of FF9.

Dragon Quest I.

I felt it was time to take up this true classic again.
It's always fun to replay this game and think on how influential it was.

Replaying Final Fantasy VIII for the first time since 1999. I have to say I'm enjoying it quite a bit more now that I understand its systems better. The menus can get pretty confusing, but at least now I know what everything does. And to be honest, the draw system isn't that bad since you always draw multiple spells each time and they can then be shared between party members. At the time I didn't even know you had an option to change junctioned GFs and Magic between party members. It's like playing a whole new game.

My favorite game of all time. From each of the 10+ playthroughs since it was released I have found some new aspect of the game I hadn't noticed or way of playing it differently. It's like it gives you this whole new FF language to play the game with and has you assemble it yourself. Sure, there are an incredible amount of ways to break the game's challenge, but the amount of freedom available to you is simply incredible. Read through the in-game information guide and do the seeD tests to find out some of the obscure play mechanics you might not find out on your own.

Ys 1 (PSP)
First time playing an Ys game, it's been interesting.
Pretty short game but i'm now stuck at the last boss, it feels kinda impossible :/

Equip all the silver gear? If not you can't win iirc. Even then it's still a kind of hard battle and felt really luck-based.

Just popped in Tales of Xilla, decided to play this before I move onto Ni no kuni because I estimated that Kuni would be a much longer game.

Have been playing the lost odyssey; not really sure if I want to finish it or not, so far not feeling it after early on disk 2. Will either finish Parasite Eve or Valkyrie Profile Lenneth if I give up on LO.

JRPGs used to comprise a good 80% of my game time. These days I can't remember the last time I played a JRPG, but seeing this thread pop up every so often inspires to sit the eff down and pop in Xenoblade. Now if only I'd actually do it... :(

thanks for that, after collecting the best set of equipment in the dungeon it's a bit counterintuitive to fight the last boss in the second best. finally beat him, but that was much more about luck than skill. as a first experience of Ys it was ok, will try one of the newer ones to see how they improved the formula over time.

Seiken Densetsu 3. I'm at the mana holyland after meeting the Dark Prince. This game is good, but nowhere near as good as Secret of Mana(Seiken Densetsu 2)

Edit: So, I've finished the game and my feelings on it are mixed. With the last couple of bosses, all I had to do was spam deathspell with Angela. The ending didn't jive with me like that of SoM.

I'm installing Last Remnant for PC. I heard it's really good and much improved.

Speaking about The Last Remnant. I have a Steam code of the game(I purchased it through GMG). Anyone that is interested, PM me as I don't want to give it away to lurkers.

Trails In The Sky

It's a shame it's apparently the only localized one in the series so far, but I believe I heard the second chapter/sequel/whatever is supposed to come out some time next year?

I just finished The Last Story and now moving onto Xenoblade. Can't say I was impressed with TLS. Severe frame rate issues and an average story. Moving onto Xenoblade I was surprised at how bad TLS looks in comparison!

Finished up Drakengard for the first time last night. I think I'm still in shock. 40-50hours of non stop depression, surrealism, and straight up bizarre cavia antics.

Might start a lttp thread about it.

Getting into JRPGs for the first time and I absolutely love it! I am now on a huge JRPG kick after playinh just one.
(Enchanted Arms)

Right now I am on Dissidia 012 with Persona 3 waiting in line.

With this new addiction and FFX HD coming out, Tales series ou there and many more, next gen can wait.

FFIV. I've just met the girl.

But I'm feeling to leave it for now and play Mother 2 instead.

Both are games I haven't played till now.

Was playing Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix but got tired trying to beat
Sephiroth
and
Unknown (Xemnas)
, which are the only bosses left in the game.

Now I've started Kingdom Hearts: Re: chain of memories, Riku's story, that I didn't bother to play the last time I finished the game.

On my list for the future is Tales of Graces that I picked up for 16 euros a week ago.

Waiting for Bravely Default I'm trying to complete my playthrough in Xenoblade
I never bothered expanding Colony 6, when I tried to do it all at once at the end of the game I realized I needed some spoils from Agniratha to advance in the progress, but the city has been destroyed so I could only hope for the "random" spoils spawning in the Colony itself. But I was foreseeing enough not to waste my save just before the Mechonis destruction, so I could just start from there to collect what I need. It sucks though. :/

Well now that I got some games off my slate, I'm finally restarting my Kiseki series massive play through. Working on sora no Kiseki FC right now, and have all the games after it ready to go and play. Looking forward to every moment of it!

Tales of Xillia.
Pretty great besides the typical anime stuff and the insanely easy combat system. I think I should have put it on super hard mode. 11 hours in and I haven't used a single recovery item or spell :/

Its my first Tales game.

Almost every tales have a different battle system but tox is really easy.

This game is just too easy. I honestly thought that I accidentally put it on easy mode.

I have yet to upgrade any of my weapons and armor as well. These signs are not good. Does it get harder?

I'm replaying FF7 for the first time in 7 years or so. I'm actually enjoying it more than I thought I would. I do wish there would be a little less focus on story telling, or just longer gameplay sections between the story sections.

Put it on Hard if you haven't. Still not that hard though, especially if you expand your weapon and armor shops a lot. If you are on Hard, you're going to need to upgrade your weapons sooner or later.

FF7 definitely starts off thicker with story than some other FFs. Once you get out of midgaard and past that whole "flash back" scenes, the story starts to move to the side a bit more.

That's the way I thought it was when I started. I'm at the end of disc 1 now though and I still feel there's an over abundance of people talking in this game. I'm planning to play through FF6-12 in order and it may well be that they're all like this and my memory has just opted to remember them differently.
