what jrpg are you playing right now ?

This game is just too easy. I honestly thought that I accidentally put it on easy mode.

I have yet to upgrade any of my weapons and armor as well. These signs are not good. Does it get harder?
play it on hard lol, no it does not get harder. It actually get easier if you get more link arts(?)

pokemon y

First game in the series for me, quite a bit of good fun, but storymode is a bit too easy

Going to take a while. No time to really dedicate to this.

I'm playing Wild ARMs Alter Code F, which is a PS2 remake of the very fist Wild ARMs. While I own a PS2 and a physical copy of Alter Code F, I'm actually playing it on PCSX2. I was pretty close to the end of the game on my physical copy, but I no longer have a SDTV, and the game looks like absolute garbage (even with playing with the settings) on my HDTV. So I figured I'd start over on an emulator and make the game look nicer through some emulation settings. I'm about half way through the game now.

Alter Code F is a pretty decent remake. The visuals are bright, but the character modeling is pretty subpar for a game that came out in 2005. There are some aspects of the remake that I like over the original, these aspects being borrowed from WA2/3, and there are some aspects of the original I like better. The original definitely has a better translation/localization. It's a bit rubbish in the remake.

I'm about to finish replaying DQVIII (i'm just before the last boss batlle). After that i'm going to do some NG+ sidequests which i never did the first time and then i'll probably pick either FFIV The After Years (on virtual console) or DQIV (on DS).Or finally finish Ni no kuni.Decisions...

P4G, first play through.

I see the hype, it's real.

I really want ATLUS to give us P4G on Playstation+... I played the original P4, but can't quite justify buying the Vita version. Or maybe a version of Persona 3 for Vita? Persona3 Portable isn't quite the same.

I'm playing Demon's Souls for the first time... love it. It might be taking over my life and free time, and I'm ok with that. The first world was rough, but now I'm into it. Never thought I would like an action RPG, but this one does it for me!

Wow, really? I actually just played through WA1 again on my Vita and while I remembered there being a couple of bizarre lines in the original, I wasn't prepared for how stilted and wooden almost everyone's dialogue felt. I'm sure I had a much higher tolerance/unawareness of that kind of thing in the 90s. I was thinking of playing my roomie's copy of ACF to see how the two games compare, but if the localization is worse... lol. Well, I'll give it a shot anyway since it's not like I'll be playing it for the story.

Replaying Final Fantasy VIII for the first time since 1999. I have to say I'm enjoying it quite a bit more now that I understand its systems better. The menus can get pretty confusing, but at least now I know what everything does. And to be honest, the draw system isn't that bad since you always draw multiple spells each time and they can then be shared between party members. At the time I didn't even know you had an option to change junctioned GFs and Magic between party members. It's like playing a whole new game.

well i figured that out a few years ago when it came out and doing draw x 3 all magics is kinda boring tbh

Am playing Neptune Rebirth on the PSVita currently. Nice to see they did a decent job with the remake and totally scrapped that awful battle system from the original game and added the more modern one.

Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, as per the Genesis / Mega Drive Classics compilation on Steam.

I've been starting to tackle my backlog lately so I figured It be easy to tackle some the retro games in my collection.

Not that this is the first time I played the game mind you, this is a replay, after this I'll probably move on to Shining in the Darkness.

There is also the possibility of The Last Remnant. It all depends on my mood really.

After finally finishing Dragon Quest 2 and 3 and Earthbound, I'm knocking out Final Fantasy Mystic Quest for the hell of it. Then on to the Lufia series, since my Lufia 2 save got erased halfway through the last time I tried doing it (goddamn battery :'( ).

Just bought this today, and diggin' the combat system. Still having difficulty getting used to it, though.

Nice! I'm a tri-Ace fanboy.

Gun customization is awesome in that game. A shame the lead programmer for tri-Ace left the company a while ago who was responsible RoF's and Star Ocean's battle systems.

Would have liked to see the concept in Resonance of Fate expanded in a sequel.

Just beat the Wind Waker on the Wii U. Amazing Zelda game, makes me realize how much I missed out on the Game Cube.

I did not get the Swift Sail until the very end of the game(thing is a life saver wish I got ASAP)

Not Sure how I would rank it among all the Zeldas( I still have to play the Wii ones as well) but it was very good!

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in Sky on PSP. I've just finished the prologue and it's kinda dull so far but I'm hoping it picks up soon.

If WWHD and Pokemon HeartGold count, then those. WWHD has been a total joy. HG is my first Pokemon game, and I'm not sold yet. Feels so, so sloooow.

It does. It never quite hits a brisk pace but the prologue is easily the slowest, most boring part of the game.

Oh god, I am trying to finish song of the ocean so I can enter the next trilogy. So it's going to be another snooze fest at the beginning and then move on to mediocre again? When does the series get good? I have a lot of games to get through before I get to the latest one which actually looks interesting.

Oh my god, please don't judge the Kiseki series on the Gagharv Trilogy, haha.
I own all three and I personally can overlook the numerous glaring flaws and enjoy them but the versions we got in the US are absolute shit.

Trails in the Sky starts slow but it's interesting, then it builds and builds and the plot becomes really fantastic and has left basically everyone who's played it pining for the sequel since they finished the first. I just meant brisk pace in terms of progression, since it has some optional sidequest bloat that could make the "Tales of" series jealous.
Basically, the series gets good right after SotO, though I imagine the Japanese versions of the Gagharv trilogy are fine.

Finishing up FFXIII-2. Definitely enjoyed it more than the game before it, even if the final dungeon difficulty spike is exasperating.

Persona 4 Golden on my new Vita.
First time playing any Sin Megami Tensei/Persona games. It's pretty great. I love RPGs that take place in a modern setting. Being a Japanese high schooler is lots of fun. It's giving me slight Shenmue vibes.

Currently playing through Suikoden 5 for the first time - imported NTSC-U copy on imported NTSC-U PS2 (75000 model) when the missus wants to use the PC, and on PCSX2 1.0.0 when I have free reign of the house. Thankfully I have FMCB to move my save file back and forth between the two devices.
I'm trying to play mainly on PCSX2, because
a) it looks so good with only very minor glitches,
2) wireless controllers are great, and
thirdly) my PS2 is possibly starting to die, and I want to save it for games that don't emulate well (VP2 is on my backlog, and it's apparently got some big issues with emulation).

As for Suiko 5 itself? It took a while to grow on me, but I'm really enjoying it now. I'm about halfway through or so, based on my star count, and I'm rocking a pretty OP team - Cross formation with Richard/Kyle/Belcoot/Lyon/Prince/Zerase.

Make sure the emulator doesn't randomly delete your saves.

I'm playing Star Ocean 4. I'm after the Cardionan Mothership, at
alternate Earth
. I think I've gotten...mostly used Lymle. The rest of the cast doesn't have bad VA but I know Sarah is coming up sooner or later. lol.

The part I'm at now is the most I've been interested in the story thus far. Before it was like...whatever. Game has such a slow start. Oh and I'm enjoying the gameplay though it feels stiff compared to Tales of Xillia and Graces F.

I didn't like Suikoden V that much till like the halfway point. 25-30 hours in. Then it got very good.

I'm creeping up on the end of Jude's story in Tales of Xillia. It's definitely my favorite JRPG so far this year. Though, admittedly, I am partial to the tropes and cliches these games recycle.

Restarted Vagrant Story, right at the last "dungeon". I like so much about this game, but I feel that the only rational judgement of it is that it's a trainwreck of a game. I mean you have to go through two menus to cast a single spell. Final Fantasy 1 was quicker than that.

I picked up Ni No Kuni on sale a while back, but just started playing. I'm amazed how good it looks. It really captures the Studio Ghibli vibe. My wife asked what movie I was watching. I had heard kind of middling things about the gameplay, but so far (about 5 hours in), I'm enjoying it.

Picked up Earthbound again after a long hiatus. I just got Jeff in my party. There really is no other game like this... except Mother 3, I guess.

I've been playing through the Wild Arms series, in (mostly) sequential order. I'm currently on Wild Arms 5, which overall I think is my favorite within the series so far. I posted a little earlier in the thread on WA2 I believe.

None of the WA games jump out at me as 'fantastic' games however. The games are pretty easy and simple in general - not much strategy is needed (and none of the narratives or characters are anything to write home about either). In my eyes (or ears, rather), the music is literally the best aspect of the series. I always knew Wild Arms was praised for its music, but I am still very impressed at how many of the tracks I enjoy and the consistency of the soundtracks throughout the series.

I'm going to go through Alter Code F next, which I understand predates the later numbered series, followed by XF (the PSP title). I'm thinking I'll give a full LTTP thread for the series when I finish up.

Restarted the Last Remnant this week. I forgot how great the fight mechanics are.

The Last Remnant is likely going to be my favorite game of the console generation. It has everything that I look for in an RPG. Fantastic battle system, great dungeon variety, wide-range of boss fights, large amount of customization available to the player, wonderful assortment of music, etc.

Alter Code F is a remake of the first Wild Arms game if you were not aware, has a good amount of extra content though but it may be a bit of a slog if you have recently played the original PS1 version of the first game since it treads alot of the same ground. I still really enjoyed playing through it like most of the rest of the series sans 4.

Yeah I'm aware. I don't get usually get burnt out too easily (for better or worse). I would have played it in order of release with the rest of the series, but it took me a while to find a copy of ACF at a reasonable price, haha.

I'm also kind of compulsive about it. If I'm playing the rest of the games in the series, I don't feel 'done' until I play ACF and XF as well.

I am actually very much the same way, luckily both ACF and XF are good games in there own right so it should go fine.

ACF was actually one of the last games I had to find to finish my collection of US released PS2 Jrpgs, took a while to find a good copy but ended up getting the guide with it in a package so I was a happy collector. Have pretty much one more game I still need to find which is Grandia Xtreme, never once seen it in a store anywhere around me.

WA5 is the only one I've played but it's one of the PS2's best RPGs IMO. I loved the battles, loved the world (even better when you get that monowheel thing--no random encounters), and the soundtrack is amazing. Game has a good amount of side content as well.

I started Xillia a little earlier this week, with Jude. The entire first dungeon sequence made me groan. So many cliches. I shouldn't be surprised, though. It's a Tales game.
