what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Radiant Historia. Been playing it for about a week and I'm pretty sure I'm getting very close to the end, but only because I've been playing it almost every chance I get. I think I've broken the game a bit because of how obsessed I am with parity among my party members; that is, I'm badly overleveled. I have similar nitpicks about the story, but it's a lot of fun and I really like the characters and battle system. Probably my favorite JRPG I've played since Persona 4, honestly.

Started Tales of Phantasia but only 45 minutes or so in. My first Tales game and I really like the active battle system (or whatever you call it) but it will definitely take some getting used to. I don't know if it's the translation or what but some of the writing so far is unintentionally hilarious.

Xillia. Maybe I am just impatient but they seem to stuck me with only 3 party members so far for quite a while, huhhhhhhhhhhhh. Want to get the whole team A.S.A.P. I am just arriving at Nia Khera... how long till I get more party members?

Currently playing Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy XII, Persona 3 and Bravely Default.
One day I might commit to just one game at a time.

You get your next one soon. It takes a little while to get all of them.

A lot of ppl told me it got boring fast; as in, you just do the same actions over and over again.

I'm actually on the fence of buying it myself :x

It's not any more repetitive than every other action RPG. Plus you can control six characters with varied movesets.

Was playing the Bravely Default Demo (loved it; game on preorder) and have gone back to Shin Megami Tensei IV... My 2DS makes playing this game a lot more comfortable when running around the dungeons and constantly working the shoulder buttons, so I'm more comfortable playing it on this than I was on the 3DSXL.

I am currently playing Persona 3 for the first time, I've been wanting to play it ever since I beat Persona 4 Golden last summer and I'm finally getting around to it. The combat feels ok, kind of grindy and definately tedious at points. The story itself (the reason I'm playing the game) is honestly pretty great, I prefer 4's to it so far, but this game has a darker and more dreary mood to it. The characters are interesting and all of them have a lot of depth to them. Once again I prefer 4's characters to them but I imagine that has more to do with 4 being my first experience with the series rather than 4 being inherently better.

About to start the Bravely default demo. I you-tubed some scenes and that voice acting is atrocious. But the Bravely Default OT says its good so I'm going to give it a shot.

Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)
Final Fantasy VI (Vita)
Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS)

Almost done with FE:A, just one last tough battle.

I'm playing Chrono Trigger on my 3DS and man is it awesome. I played it when I was a kid on SNES, but I never got too far.

The DS version is great. Love having most of the UI stuff on the bottom screen so you can see more of the game, love the touch controls. And the game still holds up. Super charming characters, epic story, great music, and the battle system is really fun. Straightforward, but effective, and I like the fast pace. Keeps the game from ever feeling too slow or bogged down, even when you're fighting a lot of enemies (and it helps that there are basically no battle transitions).

Still trying to force my way through The Last Story. It's not terrible, but nothing about it sticks out as special or memorable. Not sure how some people hold this in the same regard as Xenoblade, that's just bananas.

Trigger before Cross for obvious reasons, leave Celceta for the end and FF could follow after CT.. or something like that :).

Thanks for the suggestions. This is the first time playing Chrono Trigger (Yes I know T_T I fail) And man oh man am I loving it. Before getting into CT, I was 7 hours in to Chrono Cross, 8 hours into Celceta, and maybe 45 minutes into FF7.

I plan on focusing on CT (DS Version) and finishing it off, so far loving it. After looking at all the recommendations for PS1 RPG's I thought it would be a good thing to spread my wings and try other RPG franchises other than my usual FF 7/8/9. Thus Chrono Trigger/Chross, Y's series, Xenogears. etc.

You're getting me hyped to replay the game. Bought it recently for the Wii on VC.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.

I've only just cleared the prologue, apparently, but I've already been playing for 6:05:29, according to my save file. Just how long is this game, to have a six-hour prologue!? And there was even some stuff before the prologue.

So far, it's been entirely - how do I say? - average. I picked it up because I'd heard great things, but so far, I'm not really feeling it. I've read that it picks up in Chapter 2, but if I have to go through another 6 hours to get there... That'll be disappointing.

The combat system is mildly interesting, but extremely slow. Not much to say about it; I understand that JRPG combat is more interesting in the lategame, but still - I've gained one new skill per character in six hours. The grid system seems tacked on and not particularly meaningful; movement is useless. I do quite like the limit break things - they remind me of the Slot-In system from Megaman Battle Chip Challenge, which was a great game.

The story is not interesting the least - I couldn't think of a more bland setup if I tried, honestly. A boy and a girl join a guild, which is apparently a major political player across the world, despite being constantly occupied with general RPG type stuff like killing monsters and finding lost cats. Yawn. Every character is similarly uninspired: you have the dark-and-cool-looking, altogether too capable male character with a hidden tragic past, and the energetic idiot female character, and they're totally going to hook up but don't worry because they're not really siblings. And they're voiced by JYB and Stephanie Sheh, just in case things weren't already generic-anime enough for you.

Anyway, I'll probably keep playing it. It's not exactly bad. I just had higher expectations, given the praise I've seen it receive - including here on GAF.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Honestly, the entire game is basically prologue for SC which is why so many people were jonesing for the localization.

The beginning is easily the slowest part of the game, but the plot itself doesn't really hit the high notes that earn the praise it recieves until the latter chapters.

You really have to stick with it. I loathed the beginning but it gets better exponentially.

FC is about ~28-35 hours long. The beginning is slow and it does pickup. But judging from your impressions maybe the game isn't for you? shrug*

None right now (playing Zelda), but I have
Lightning Returns
Bravely Default
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD
all coming out in the next 2 months. South Park: The Stick of Truth is too, but I guess that's more of a WRPG.

got Dark Cloud 2 for christmas, been playing it for the first time, its quite something, the beggining was putting me off something fierce, and the first dungeon i was kind of just limping through, but then after the train and into the forest, everything changed and opened up for me, and i started really really enjoying it.

Bravely Default and loving it, only thing turning me off in the game are the strange StreetPass village building system and the S points :-|

Same here, just started chapter 3 and I really enjoy the game. The old fashioned approach to game design and storytelling as well as the beautiful artstyle really make this game stand out.

However, whoever thought that gathering workers solely over streetpass would be a good idea did not know how hard it is to get streetpasses outside of Japan. Why could they not just add some workers through progress as they did with Abilink? My single worker is working his ass off and has not yet rebuilt even a fraction of the village. To be honest I don't see myself ever rebuilding Norende, which would take me several hundred hours if not more.

Apart from that this game is pure gold and I would recommend it to everyone owning a 3DS :)

you get free workers for updating you data on the save screen

Just started Atelier Ayesha.
Not so impressed so far. Meruru seemed better on every point (why replace the city construction by the memory system? Not convinced by the alchemy so far either). And well, the lack of japanese dubs is kinda annoying.

Suikoden, about 5 hours in. In some ways it feels like a very stale gameworld (NPCs don't change what they say often), but in other ways it feels like you have a lot of control. Overall I'm enjoying this game quite a lot so far, though I don't believe the choices I actually want to make for the PC are possible within the game's narrative.
