I was super surprised Swampert wasn't in the game. They have the other Hoenn starters, they all tie into OR/AS, they all have Mega Evolutions and all can offer different playstyles. Super weird it wasn't in.

I always figured the people getting mad about these things were the people not actually playing or particularly invested in fighting games.

Well it's likely there will be a NX version. TPC will want to keep the game supported for a while so getting a new audience on NX (and getting it away from the sinking Wii U) will help. Tie in updates to Pokken like Tekken Tag 2 (free DLC characters added in updates) alongside the Arcade updates.

Wow OP, I don't like any of the Pokemon in your post.

I'd rather have cool ones like Scyther, Scizor, Pinsir, Heracross, Kabutops if you want bugs.

Literally the first thing I thought of when I heard about this game was those two brawling. Neither of them being in is incomprehensible to me.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Bandai Namco & The Pokémon Company added the Super comtent to the Wii U version via DLC to minimize salt over the announcement of an NX-bound Super version 9 or so months after the release of the original. This is assuming that Super Pokkén Tournament happens.

No water starter at all is pretty crazy. I pick them every time. Gib Squirtle/Wartortle/Totodile/Feraligatr plz. No Hitmonchan/Lee is pretty insane too.

Smeargle, Torkoal, Heracross, Spinda, Hawlucha, and Sudowoodo all sound cool. If I had to pick a curveball, it'd totally be Delibird.

Well Capcom already did away with this practice, but it may be Pokkén's only shot at long-term success both with casuals & the FGC. Pokkén is being released on a dying platform that's months from being phased out. By enticing people to transition to the NX Console for competitive Pokkén, the game will have a better shot at long-term success. And as stated earlier, the Super content can be added to the Wii U version via DLC to minimize salt.

My top 8 Pokemon would be Nidorino, Rhydon, Scyther, Snorlax, Hitmontop, Deoxys, Serperior, and Aegislash.

Nidorino: Basically a fanservice pick so that we could recreate Red and Blue's Nidorino vs. Gengar fight in 3D. He would be doing rhino charges at the opponent and inflicting poison damage. My next pick would also be good as a rhino style character.

Rhydon: A tank who gets to use rockblast, earthquake, horn drill, and other powerful attacks. I think having a Pokemon that encompasses the Rock and Ground types well is a must, and who better than the first Pokemon ever designed?

Scyther: A fast rushdown character emphasizing in quick cuts, and has good air mobility. He would be my personal pick for a Bug-type Pokemon, though Heracross is a good alternative.

Snorlax: A slow giant who can use bodyslams to stun the opponent, and sleep to regenerate health. Making his style work in execution might be difficult, but he is definitely a Pokemon with unique characteristics.

Hitmontop: Can charge himself before spinning loose towards the opponent with erratic movements and kicks. I think he would be the best out of the "Hitmon" characters.

Deoxys: Takes changing form to a whole new level by modifying his strength, speed, and defense attributes. I think he would be the best legendary Pokemon to add in a sequel, although Genesect and Darkrai would be cool as well.

Serperior: Can grab his opponent with deadly wraps, and whip them with his tail. I think a snake-like Pokemon is a must, and if not him then I would be happy with others like Steelix, Milotic, or Arbok.

Aegislash: A complete oddball using alternating sword and shield combos. Basically the next game's Chandelure style pick.

The Mona- ahem, I mean, Aegislash. Thing basically screams "I wanna be a fighting game character" with its stance switch mechanic.

Beyond Aegislash, I'd also like
- Galvantula (fast, trap based character, but I guess Sceptile already kinda fills that role)
- Golurk (Huge ass Robot/Golem that has arm cannons and can fly, what's not to like?)
- Tyrantrum (T-Rex. Nuff said)
and Crobat (yea, its my favorite Pokémon. Gotta show support. Also a fast, purely air based fighter using it's overwhelming mobility combined with hit and run tactics inflicting stat debuffs sounds nice to me. Obviously it would fly closely above the ground like Chandelure)

I'm a big dragon pokemon person.

So, Dragonite and Salamence pls.

Another of my favourite pokemon is Lugia, but I dunno how that'd work in a fighting game.

Revisions were fine for arcades wherein you were popping quarter to have a go but for actual products, SFIV got annoying with it.

Also: we don't know how the NX will do. It could do better than the Wii U, or fall into the same death spiral.

Considering that we're in the final months of the Wii U's life, DLC this late in the game (if it wasn't pre-planned or being made for a possible NX Platform port) is unlikely.

Am I the only one who would really like to see Aegislash in the game? I'd really love Scizor too, but people I'd love to see would definitely include Arcanine, Electabuzz and Bulbasaur (I like him over big slow pokemon like a venasuar) I'd love Gallade but I doubt that would happen. Lopunny would be fun as a quick pokemon kinda like a mix of Lucario and Weavile. I'd like Dragonite too if they can find a decent move set for him.

Nope.
Anything that allows me to put off on deciding to buy a Wii U is a good thought as I don't really want to get one for more than a few games.

Right now my lack of work is the only reason I don't have this and a Wii U. If I find that the NX looks amazing then I'm all for this and Smash getting updated and released on that in the launch window.

But Imma get this game some day ... this and Bayo. Need a Wii U just for them.

Anyway ...

Lopunny and Zangoose.

Also tyrantrum.
