No kidding? I don't remember Michael Jackson being a fat white guy. And I don't really think 5 times in 15 years is very often.

Except that Michael Jackson was playing a fat white guy who thought he was Micheal Jackson...it's a grey area, clearly.

I'd put Albert Brooks in a category with someone like Jon Lovitz who was pretty significant in successful voice roles in the early years of the show, and since he's never played himself, he doesn't count in my bizarro world.

Either way, I guess. We can agree that Hank Scorpio is a great character, at least.

And yeah, intensive purposes. Although you could consider a celebrity voicing a different character as being a cameo, the original poster seemed to be referring to when celebrities portray themselves.

Thank you, that's exactly what I meant.

And Yes, Michael Jackson was a bit of a grey area but the character was still somewhat a quasi-portrayal of him.

I don't have a problem with Guest Voices, Celebrity or not. It's when real-life Celebrity characters get imposed into the Simpsons universe that I get annoyed. It almost always seems forced.

And of course Hank Scorpio was a great character. But then again he's not a real-life celebrity, which was my point.

I don't think celebrities are a problem anyway, it's just that the new writers can't work them in well, and use them a lot more often. George Harrison, Barry White, everyone from the Krusty comeback episode, Conan, hell even Leno worked out fine.

The real problem with celebrities portraying themselves is, aside from often being forced, is that it'll age the show. Who's to say we'll know who any of these stars are 30 years from now? Just look at old episodes of The Flintstones to see this. Older cartoons are guilty of it, as well. Cartoons from the 30's often included charicatures of celebrities, but of the dozens and dozens given cameos, today we can really only recognize maybe the Marx Bros. and Laurel & Hardy? Therefore, I fear for the timelessness of many episodes.

Socreges wins...that waiter is a horribly unfunny rip off character. I don't even know who he's ripping off but I know I don't like him

I dunno, I like that part in an episode where the waiter goes "Yeeeeeeesssss?" and Homer's like "Why do you talk like that?" and he goes "I had a strooooooke!"

Exactly, some of them are already dying, or couples showing up divorcing, etc.

How can some of you hate Gil and especially Krusty?

Maude: We're not talking about love, we're talking about S-E-X in front of the C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N!

Krusty: Sex Cauldron? I thought they closed that place down!

Anyway, I agree with the majority of people here and say Lisa.

You just reminded me, I HATED Maude's last voice and was glad she died. It was so grating.

Yeah, the fat camp ep stunk, they should've used Albert brooks to bring back hank Scorpio, but they probably would've ruined the character the way the show has been lately.

I think family Guy is as good or better than The Simpsons ever was, the proof is when you look at the 2 "falling in love with the babysitter" episodes (Simpsons has one in one of the earlier seasons and family Guy had one a few weeks ago) I thought Stewie's handling of the situation was much funnier, though it did take a bit out of the "Is he gay?" aspect of Stewie's character.

Yeah, I remember watching that episode and thinking that the instructor could've been Scorpio if they wanted to.

Why was Maude killed off?
I'm pretty sure the voice actress didn't want to do it anymore, and the new writers are always looking for a really stupid gimmick.

...okay, I'm not exactly a huge fan of Lisa's moral high roads, but Homer was being an utterly ignorant and close-minded father in that issue, and his ignorance did nothing but drive his daughter away. I'm not entirely sure how exactly she was the only one at fault in that situation. Yes, she was being an idealistic "Everyone accept me for me" view on things but the reality is that it was written quite well in having her appear victimized by her slow-witted father.

The worst that Homer did to her before she trashed his bbq was sing that "you don't win friends with salad" song. She got pissed off because nobody wanted to not eat meat at his bbq. Homer only ended up mad at her after she ruined his bbq, rightfully so he should have been mad afterwards.

Actually now that I think about it he didn't even say anything mean to her, the scene went something like Homer asked Bart to tell Lisa to pass him maple syrup to put on his sausages then she erupted at him for no reason what so ever.

In conclusion, Lisa totally wrong. For once Homer did absolutely nothing wrong.

Originaly there was a contract dispute so they got someone else to do the voice. But she didn't really do a very good job so I guess they took the oportunity to just get rid of her. I believe the original person came back to do that ep where she was a ghost.
