What about the second Bleeding Gums Murphy episode? Dr. Cheeks? Mufasa in the sky? Alf pogs? Steve Allen?

Krusty used to be entertaining back in the day. He's such a scumbag. He was at his best in the "Homie the Clown"

Lisa will always be my most hated Simpson. Homer can still get a chuckle out of me every now and then even though he's lost his spark.

Ya, Bleeding Gums wasn't any good.

From the 138th Episode Spectacular: "Which two popular Simpsons' characters have died in the past year? If you said Bleeding Gums Murphy and Dr. Marvin Monroe, you are wrong: they were never popular."

I always wondered, in what episode did they say Marvin Monroe died? Or was that part of the joke?

From the DVD Commentaries, they introduced a Marvin Munroe Memorial Wing at the Hospital, more or less confirming his death, at some point. I know that Shearer disliked what the voice did to his...voice, so it was more or less a matter of having no material and a tough voice to do, so they just stopped putting in the character.

I think that every single Simpsons character has an unbearable moment...there's nobody I really dread to see on screen, though. I don't think there is a single character who has NEVER been funny; anyone who believes so may well be on crack.

Maybe that waiter that says "Yeeeeeeeeees". Admittedly, him saying "Siiiiiiiiiii" in Brazil was pretty funny.... but not proper Portugese.

Socreges wins...that waiter is a horribly unfunny rip off character. I don't even know who he's ripping off but I know I don't like him

(well, I think I know who it is...but I'd hate to be wrong and look stupid :lol )

What about Homer's brother? Both of his episodes were awesome. Unless they brought him back some time. I really hope they never brough him back.

What! Good ol' Gil? That dude is so pathetic he rocks, probably the best of the later characters ever.

I pretty much love them all, but a few of the new characters are pretty stupid. I think the worst one ever is that new asian character they have on the show, her accent and everything she says is so retarded and unfunny.

Disco Stu annoys the hell out of me because it's just one bad, unfunny joke.

Lindsey Nagel and Cookie Kwan are annoying. Pretty much everyone else has made me laugh at one point in time though.

I'm speaking more of characters that pop up every couple of episodes or more, not 1-2 appearance guest stars. And yes, having watched his second episode recently on my DVDs, they are both indeed fantastic episodes...but those were the glory days. They, like, don't count in these types of discussions.

The 1st season episode with Lisa acting sad and Bart vs. Homer in basically Punch-out? I thought that episode was amazing, for the 1st season anyway. Maybe the best of the bunch. Bleedin' Gums was just fine in the role he played imo. Not a character who should come back but that was one of my favorite episodes.

I agree.....that episode had more heart that most entire seasons, and Bleedin Gums' part fit nicely into it.

Although, as the commentary points out, it's kind of creepy to find some guy on a bridge in the middle of the night and have an 8-Year Old start jamming with him. Still, I concur, it's a very strong episode for the first season.

Oh yeah. Disco Stu, as well.

The fact that he was brought back onto the show is a sign of how bad the writing had become. I mean, fuck, his character was supposed to be only for that ep!

Vieo said:
I'm gonna have to say Ralph Wiggum. I can't stand him.

You used to be cool Vieo, what happened? Ralph is my favorite. Lisa and Marge are in the running for the most annoying.

The problem with the Disco Stus, the Duffmen, and the Gils are that they were meant to be used only once. Disco Stu was only there because Homer ran out of room to put "Disco Stud" on his jacket. Then they just dragged it on. Duffman was just a big temptation for Barney to drink beer after being forced to be the Designated Driver. The fact that these characters were drug out too long is probably the worst thing about the recent Simpsons seasons.

Lisa is the worst. My mom hates her, my sister always turns it to something else whenever an episode about her is on, and when she rants, I turn it or if its on DVD, it gets fast forwarded.

BTW, Bleeding Gums Murphy is never funny and I don't watch the Simpsons for fucking morals. And Gil, He's fucking hilarious. Screw the doubters. "I thought you ended it with him. No I don't want to talk to hi... Heyyy!"

Cookie Kwan, Judge Harm, Lindsey Nagel, Gil are all bad, but the worst is the YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS guy.

Duffman, Disco Stu, Comic Book Guy, Cletus and Ralph Wiggum were good at first but have now been way over used.

I think Bleeding gums is ok.

Lisa is a good Character, she brings realism and heart to the show. She's not meant to be funny all the time. Of course she has gone downhill with the rest of the show.

Didn't they recently bring Marvin Monroe back for a cameo? I think Marge asked him where he'd been and he said something very unfunny.

I'm not a big fan of Patty and or Selma, seeing as how some of the worst storylines recently have involved them (Patty or Selma marries the woman who's really a man!, the trip to China). Other than that, I never liked Judge Constance Harms (sp?), the character who's voiced by the mother from Malcolm in the Middle.

Yeah, they brought Munroe back in one of the worst Simpsons episodes. It was the episode where Marge wrote a terrible love trauma book [which somehow sold very well and got praised, but reviews panned it in the end? FFS].He claimed he had been "Very Sick". No Joke, no nothing, just brought him back, and he's done nothing since.

...le sigh. I have little hope anymore, I really do.

Lisa.

Evil, moralising little shitstain. When The Simpsons decided to revolve its episodes around her and her unerring ability to do no wrong, its took a dive down the shit pan from which there was no return. I hate her voice, I hate her ingratitude, I hate her arrogance and I hate her piss irritating superiority complex. I wish she'd fuck off and die.

Definitely can't stand Lisa.
I always remember that episode when she became a vegetarian; she wrecked Homer's BBQ and then afterwards instead of apologizing when she was totally wrong, she made it out that Homer was wrong too. WTF was that?

...okay, I'm not exactly a huge fan of Lisa's moral high roads, but Homer was being an utterly ignorant and close-minded father in that issue, and his ignorance did nothing but drive his daughter away. I'm not entirely sure how exactly she was the only one at fault in that situation. Yes, she was being an idealistic "Everyone accept me for me" view on things but the reality is that it was written quite well in having her appear victimized by her slow-witted father.

I get some of the Lisa hate, but the single best Simpsons Episode of the past 4-5 Seasons is the one where Lisa becomes a Buddhist, Lindsay Nagle and all. It is witty, features a well-used guest star that feels less like a one-off joke and more like a realistic character in the Simpsons universe, has a great use of Lenny and Karl and in general is fantastic.

That always confused me too. I mean how were they both wrong? Lisa was the one that ruined his BBQ, Homer did nothing wrong but get pissed at her for it. Something he was justified to be.

Though Homer was a bit antagonistic, I'd hardly say that justified lisa's behavior.

That being said, I found the Buddhist episode to be both great AND infuriating. I mean Marge and company trying to make Lisa a Christian. I was so rooting for someone to bitch slap marge.

Gil cannot be hated. Especially when he swerves his car into the tree in one episode, and then you can see him dancing on top of his wrecked car singing "Gil's eating food tonight!"
The first thing that popped into my mind when seeing this thread is that, despite all the shit moments some characters may have, they're still not as bad as the worst animated character ever: Peggy Hill.

Peggy Hill is Lisa's worst qualities multiplied by 100.

Those two Lisa episodes (conversion, going vegetarian) were the two worst. The best one was where she gets the pony, only because the Ralph voice was way off.

"I'm smarter than you! I'm so smart! I won an award, that makes my self worth higher than nil! Ha! Oh did I mention I know more about you than you do? Am I full of shit, oh heavens no!

Oh, and no matter what, I'm always right, and always fully responsible for whatever good happens."

You know, I wish in one ep, someone would fucking bitchslap Lisa or Peggy. But it'll never. Ever. Happen.

That woman's name is Peggy Hill. The resemblance is uncanny.

Wow, I forgot about that episode! But anything good in any Bleeding Gums Murphy episode does not include Bleeding Gums. And I concur with the guy who says I don't watch The Simpsons for fucking morality.

Whoever said Krusty can go get fucked.

2nd best character after Monty Burns.

"Oh say, can you see .. La la la, da da light .. what so proudly we yah .. La la yah ..... oh I shouldn't have turned down those cue cards"

I was never annoyed with Peggy Hill. I always found her character to be rather amusing, but I never took her seriously.

I have to go with anytime a secondary/background character gets overused.

Disco Stu, Duffman, Comic Book Guy, are all GREAT in small doses. But they're meant to be one dimenionsal characters, so if they're used too much they stick out like a sore thumb. They ruined Disco Stu.

A background character shouldn't say more than 3-4 sentences every 5-6 episodes.

With that said, the worst Simpsons characters goes to any and all Celebrity characters. I don't think there's EVER been a decent celebrity guest. Except maybe for Michael Jackson, but he played a big fat white guy. The whole episode poked fun at him. Whereas the newer episodes practically worship the celebrity guests.

I have issues with cameos more than I do guest appearances, to be honest with you, especially more recent ones. Some of them can be done well (I think Richard Gere was quite well done, if only because it seemed slightly tied into the general subject of the episode instead of being random) but some of the more recent ones feel so contrived and really serve no purpose in the overall episode.

I think the appearance of the McCartney's falls into the better category as well.

Danny Devito as Homers brother Herb is the best celebrity cameo. Those episodes are 2 of my favorites.

Celebrity appearances can be effective if used sparingly, appropriately, and not relied on to make the episode work.

That's not a celebrity cameo...that's a celebrity voice actor. Cameos involve, for all intensive purposes, a person playing themselves.

Yep...I'd say that the Alec Baldwin/Kim Basinger/Ron Howard episode was on these same lines, and relied on them too much to remain consistent...that said, the episode is generally quite good.

Peggy Hill rocks! Her constant bullshitting is what makes her so hilarious and her moments with Bill are some of the most priceless scenes ever.

Oh yeah? What about Hank Scorpio?

Albert Brooks did tons of voices for The Simpsons, ever since the first season (he was Marge's bowling instructor). He's an exception.

Hey, he did Brad Goodman. Screw him.

People didnt like the vegetarian episode? That one was great! And Lisa actually realizes how much a bitch she'd been.

Hank Scorpio, not being a real person, was not a celebrity character. He was simply a newly introduced one-off character who was voiced by a celebrity. Besides, A. Brooks (As he was credited due to his wish not to be associated with a "cartoon") has been on so often that he doesn't even really count.

And yeah, intensive purposes. Although you could consider a celebrity voicing a different character as being a cameo, the original poster seemed to be referring to when celebrities portray themselves.

No kidding? I don't remember Michael Jackson being a fat white guy. And I don't really think 5 times in 15 years is very often.
