That's better than Bethesda taking 15 years until the next fallout game
Bank on it happening
MS would be absolutely insane to just close them down

Well tons of people wanted them to go 3rd party and only do AAA stuff. Here it is. New IP are going to get even more rare, since most people can't hardly be bothered with it anyway. This is a really depressing thread![]()
Hopefully remedy and insomniac, and I'll be celebrating both closures
The people at Obsidian made the original 2 games. Yes I know what you are talking about, but they know fallout as much as if not more than Bethesda. This won't happen. I've got more chance of being sucked off to completion by Joe Biden than that happening.
They can remaster 3 and NV, then give Bethesda more resources to turnaround FO5.
Even if Microsoft did want to do this, it would take Obsidian well over 5 years to make an Fallout game.
Final point, Obsidian made one FO game 14 years ago. There is no guarantee they'll make anything to NV standard again.
Doesnt it already have a GaaS version?2 of the CoD studios; the game will be a GaaS game soon
That said these reaction threads are kinda dumb... (no offense to OP).I feel like people mentioning Obsidian are forgetting that The Outer Worlds performed very well as a new AA IP, and the sequel has been underway for quite some time. So even if Avowed doesn't meet Microsoft's expectations (whatever those may be), they're still safe until they ship The Outer Worlds 2.

Remedy blows now. So sad.
Yeah, he's confusing the old Interplay teams with Black Isle (which led to the creation of Obsidian). The original 2 Fallout games were made by Interplay. Bethesday later acquired Fallout.
While Todd Howard is there, Obsidian won't be allowed to upstage him with his company's IP.Ninja Theory
I think Avowed will bomb but they will turn Obsidian into a Fallout studio
Ninja Theory used to do a lot of outsource work for other studios before they were acquired. Microsoft might be able to turn them into a COD support studio, rather than just shut down. It's Ninja Theory. 100%. There's almost not shot Hellblade will meet any expectation MS has.

Yeah, I don't really see them getting closed at all. They can make AAA games. That's what they want. They're also close to Rare and could help finish whatever the fuck Everwild is. Who knows.Ninja Theory used to do a lot of outsource work for other studios before they were acquired. Microsoft might be able to turn them into a COD support studio, rather than just shut down.

Seriously feels that way. People can still ... you know, play Hellblade 2 if they want to support them. Pretty sure it'll be available on everything.Gotta say it feels like people here are willing Ninja Theory to close or something. We'll see how Hellblade 2 does, but I'm pretty sure the budget for it wasn't ridiculous. If anything, I could see Xbox funding the studio more to go bigger with a different MS IP or something like that.
Probably another studio that was operating at a deficit rather than a profit? I know you guys hate math, but I think we can just keep following the money here.
Fargo was behind Fallout. The Obsidian guys were from Black Isle. I'm not sure how many at Black Isle were splintered from the Fallout team, though.Ah.....if that is what you meant by "the people at Obsidian" then that makes sense. Obsidian itself wasn't founded until after Fallout 2 was made.
Remedy blows now. So sad.
Agreed, but Remedy is worthless to me at this point. Sad, because at one time Remedy and Insomniac were my top 2 developers. Now I couldn't care less what they make next.I'm just reacting to someone hoping studios close because they don't like the games. That's stupid.
That's gotta be my favorite name for a studio.Creative Business Unit 3

From the perspective of Microsoft, this means fuck all.
Hey, I'd love Obsidian to be given a blank cheque to work on a new FO game, but it's not going to happen.
Real question. What makes Ninja Theory so obvious for everyone right now?Undead Labs and Ninja Theory seem like obvious choices. If I was Uncle Phil, I'd be looking at Undead Labs like

One would think Obsidian and Id would be in "sacred cow" territory and not be touched, but these days I'm not so sure. I would love to think that Microsoft would rather spin these developers off back on their own rather than just shut the doors, but I can just about guarantee Microsoft would keep all the IP. It would be like Bungie all over again.
Even if it's a commercial flop, the studio has a lot to offer as a support studio and also for tech purposes. I just don't see them folding so easily, especially when it's pretty obvious that the budget wasn't massive for Hellblade 2. The whole point of developing both games was to create AAA products at indie prices. The possibility that Hellblade 2 will be a commercial flop.

I'd feel sorry if it's Ninja Theory. 343 needs shooting first
Ninja Theory are fucked. MS is only realizing now that they need to market Hellblade 2. They posted this a few minutes ago, and this is their idea of marketing
