With SMT5, Persona 5 Scramble (western release) and at least one new Sonic game confirmed to be coming out, 2021 is looking like being a good year for Sega/Atlus fans. It could even end up being a great year, if they manage to release games in development such as Warhammer 3 and the latest Yakuza entry (forget about Project Re Fantasy releasing in 2021 though!). So GAF, what are you most hyped for? Even more fun, what "surprise" announcements do you predict we will get? Skies of Arcadia 2? Shenmue 4? A new Golden Axe maybe?

Confirmed 2021 Releases:

Yakuza Remastered Collection and Yakuza 6 (Xbox Gamepass, PC - January 28th 2021, March 25th 2021)

Shin Megami Temsei III Nocturne HD Remaster (Switch, PS4 - Spring 2021) - EDIT: the poll should say 3, not 2 - can't be changed now

For me personally, I'm most hyped for the new Sonic game/s (it has been a while), whatever Yakuza they are cooking up, plus the new SoR4 DLC (loved the game in 2020).

Predictions?

1. The new Sonic game will be like Sonic Generations, with a mix of 2D and 3D
2. They will also finally release the Christian Whitehead HD ports of 1 and 2 on PC/consoles, plus add a HD version of 3&K (with the troublesome music tracks redone by Tee Lopes), as well as the HD Sonic CD port. It will be a single anniversary collection.
3. The new Yakuza will be a sequel to Like a Dragon, with the RPG gameplay and returning characters. There will be no Judgment 2.
4. The SoR4 DLC will feature Estel, Skate and Max as playable characters, and feature a shorter side story.
5. Persona 5 will come to PC (and maybe Switch)

Wishful thinking predictions:
1. Shenmue 4 announcement (I think that won't come until after the anime's release, if at all)
2. Golden Axe or Shinobi Lizardcube announcement (neither are impossible, but not until at least 2021 - they are a small studio and will be focussed on the SoR4 DLC for now)
3. Skies of Arcadia port
4. A western release of one of the historical Yakuza games (Kenzan or Ishin)

I’m really, really hoping to see some god damn gameplay from SMTV soon. We got 3 trailers but no gameplay.

Also....

Come on Hashino, I love you but give me something......anything!!!

How about a Sonic Rush Trilogy Remastered / Collection ?!

I would like that (I'm not sure how they would handle the DS split screen though). A Sonic Advanced Trilogy would be another idea.

P5 Royal to PC will be big

That one is happening for sure! Persona 4 Golden sold so well, I think Sega Europe are just going to force Atlus to let them do it. An announcement at least, even if it doesn't get released until 2022.

Hey OP, the remake is for SMT III, not II. You almost give me a heart attack there. :goog_relieved:

I will be fine just with a non-delayed release for SMT V, and the announcement of a new Yakuza, or maybe even a teaser for Persona 6.

There's also the anniversary of the Persona franchise, so we might get some sweet remaster/remake like they did with the SMT anniversary.

Also eager to keep playing the Yakuza saga.

For the first time the Japanese output does nothing for me and it’s the PC game I want.

Humankind looks so good and I’m looking for someone to put a more “narrative” focus on the 4x genre. It sounds like it will appeal to what I like about the Civ games which is following the story in my head of this nation I’ve created.

But yeah, I don’t care about Persona spin-offs. I’ll probably get strikers because it’s a action oriented one, but it doesn’t excite me.

Yakuza is overplayed for me honestly. The rpg shift also was a turn off. I honestly don’t like the silly shit in those games and the new one seemed to be all about that.

Give me Panzer Dragoon anything and Bayonetta 3. Honourable mention to HotD remakes but I don't know how that will play without light guns

I'm hyped for Persona 5 Strikers and the inevitable P5 Royal port for PC.

Other than that, I don't doubt that Atlus will announce Persona 6 or Persona 3 Remake at some point.

Atlus needs to seriously staff up so that we don't have to wait a decade in between every core Persona game.
I can wait for next Persona, I honestly need Atlus to focus on SMTV and Project Re Fantasy.

Also if we do get new Persona, it needs to be different than Hashino's Persona series. Just like how series changed formula after Eternal Punishment.

Or just staff up and do all of those things. Persona is really what I want.

What do you think "development is now at its climax" means?

I would love a Persona game with an adult cast featuring more mature themes. But maybe that would be too much of a departure, so I don't hold my hopes high on that one.

Are you talking about SMTV?

Keywords for 2021: “Think outside the box.”

What’s New: “So about Shin Megami Tensei V… we’re working hard on development to make it an even better product. You’ll be waiting a little while longer, but please look forward to it.”

I think baby steps are fine. If they just change the next game to a college setting that would be cool. It's not too far of a departure that would annoy diehard fans, and the slight change introduces a huge slew of new activities that wouldn't have been appropriate for high school students.

I dont care if they are adults or teenagers, I'm mostly talking about the game's mechanic, it needs to be different than Hashino's Persona trilogy.

Waiting for the PS5 version of Yakuza Like a Dragon to finally start playing it. And hopefully a new Yakuza game announcement.

Wished to see a Persona 6 announcement, but i know that not gonna happen anytime soon. And considering the way Atlus fucked up the the earlier adopters of Persona 5, im defenettly gonna wait for a Persona 6 "Royal" edition, soo in 10 years?

Haven't played the old ones, but wheren't those a lot more niche than today Persona? If they remove the social links (for example) it could cause an uproar on the fans side.

With that said, Persona 3, 4 and 5 are basically the same thing but more refined with each iteration, so I can understand some people wanting a change.

Maybe the just should make Persona RPG spin-offs? Even if Persona is already a spin-off. :goog_relieved:

I'm curious man, what would you like to see changed?

Hashino is already moved on from Persona series and working on its new project, if the new team just keeps making Hashino's Persona then the series eventually going to get staggered.

They need to come up their own formula, it will keep the Persona series fresh.

I literally still have my Saturn hooked up to play Panzer Dragoon Zwei. I’m so excited to see how it looks since it’s in my top 5 games of all time.

Fat Frog

I advertised for Google Stadia

They already did, and are still growing according to Persona Central.

Atlus = more than 100 employees
(before Sega)

Atlus = more than 300 employees
(after Sega)

Seeing the success on PC, the possible Xbox ports, I think Sega will continue to feed them hard. (more than 500 employees in 2025 ?)

As long as they deliver on SMTV I'm fine.

Although I haven't been a fan of Sonic since the Dreamcast and early Gamecube days, it would be cool to see a Sonic RPG based off of the Archie comic series or that ADV Films OVA. Something like a spiritual successor to Sonic Adventure.

Awesome thread, Kazza Kazza !!

I've become a huge fan of the Yakuza series, so of course I voted for the PC ports of the rest of the Kiryu saga.

I love Sega in general. The Genesis mini is one of my most played consoles this year. (The US version of Streets of Rage 3 can go eat shit, though... LMAO).

I will eventually get into some of their other series, but at the moment I'm not a huge (J)RPG fan so I don't know much about the Shin Megami Tensei series, so it's kind of hard to get excited for that.

But, House of the Dead remakes!? Fuck, I dumped so many quarters into a local House of the Dead 2 arcade that was near me, it would be cool to see what the remakes look like.

Absolutely cannot wait for the Sonic 30th games. Hopefully the boost, 2d classic sonic and wisps are gone and we get a full 3d movement type game. And of course, mania 2.

I hope Aaron Webber or Christian Whitehead have some input into the 3d game too.

SMT5
New Yakuza
Project Re Fantasy

are my picks in the vote.

I would love for a new Valkyria Chronicles and more from Vanillaware after the successful launch of 13 Sentinels. Not expecting a game but at least maybe a reveal for the new VC or a DLC for 13S or something easily done like Muramasa on consoles so it won’t be stuck on the Vita and the Wii.

Oh God yes please! Shinobi 3 is still among my absolute favorite action games ever.

The team that did SoR4 have mentioned Shinobi (and Joe Musashi was even almost a playable character), so it's possible at some point in the future. I think Golden Axe is more likely though (more well known amongst the general public, plus they can use the SoR4 brawler engine with little modification).

Sonic by RGG studio (i think Sonic Team is entirely working on new genesis and that Sato was teasing his involvement as the new producer of Sonic)
Alex Kidd remake and 3 others indy revivals announced.

Oh, I knew I had forgotten something! I'll try and add them to the poll.

HotD is a curious one. I can't imagine them releasing without some kind of lightgun, it just isn't the same otherwise. Hopefully, Sega/Forever Entertainment will licence that new Sinden gun (the one that works with modern TVs). That could open the door to releasing all the other HotD games too, as well as Virtua Cop, Jurassic Park etc.

You had one job mate...

ANYWAY SMT5 since the remake is a quick cash grab sadly and FANTASY is "totally being worked on" but we haven't seen dick from it since it was announced. Same goes for Bayo :(

As a true SEGA fan, i could only vote for Alex Kid, the built in game on my Master Systhem. 🥳
And SMT2 Remake.
ANDDDD FUCKING VIRTUA FIGHTER IS COMING BACK BABY!

Well, that's their fault for using roman numerals. It's 2021, it ain't 43AD anymore, WTF!? I mean, what the hell number is III supposed to be anyway? How is anyone supposed to know it equals 3?!

Lesson learned - no more (mildly) drunk posting - just a couple of whiskeys - it was New Years Eve, after all :messenger_tears_of_joy:
