What To Get Ought I?

Wait LONGER!

Buy a PS3 or a Revolution. (They'll get cheap eventually.)
They're both backwards compatible,
just buy a bunch of cheap games from this gen.

I own both a GC and PS2 and I would have to say, PS2 by quite a margin.

Whatever you choose, make a "please suggest me some games" thread with more specific input about what games you enjoy, and I will be happy to give my favorites whichever console you choose.

Don't go by the cost of the initial console, go by the games, seriously.

A good theory, except the PS2 has so many non-mainstream/niche games that it pretty much rapes Gamecube from a thousand different angles. That's the benefit of having the most third party support, and being the market leader.
Well, yes. My only thought was that if he's held out from the obvious market leader this long, it would seem as though he didn't really want anything on the PS2 enough to begin with. However, the matter hinges on the kinds of games he likes -- what is he buying a console for?

Are you actually suggesting that Gamecube has more niche/non-mainstream games than PS2?
Nah. However, they DO get noticed a tad bit more.

Maybe.

(The Tom Clancy-esque thing was just me whining about the move towards Splinter Cell-like games... fake "SUPER REALISM", boring, and badly written. It really had nothing to do with anything else.)

Of course it's his opinion. It's an inherently subjective statement. You're supposed to take it into account either way given your perception of how his tastes relate to yours through other statements he's made. No one here needs "IMNSHFO" at the beginning of each sentence. He didn't write a video game review meant to be published. There's no "joe sixpack mass appeal" adjustment for the editor to make. It's a video game message board on the internet. DIE DIE DIE! Ahem.

PS2 will probably drop to $99 this fall, doesn't Sony usually do that during the PSX's last holiday before the PS2 dropped? Even if it doesn't go with PS2 cause it's strong in every genre and you can make $50 go a long fucking way as far as great games are concerned. There isn't a genre where PS2 doesn't spank GC IMNSHFO. (<- I don't even know what that means. :lol)

"In My Not So Humble, Forthright Opinion"
(Replace with another "F"-word, if you so desire)

I will say that I think the PS2 lacks 4 player gaming options when compared to the GameCube... and that is a big thing for me.

I'm a PC gamer and I love my Xbox. My PC is getting a bit old, and the Xbox lets me play newer FPS games they my PC won't run very well. Not many RPGs, but there is the KotoRs, Jade Empire and Morrowind, RPGs a PC gamer can got cozy with.

I have a PS2 and never touch it anymore.

I'd get a GameCube.

You should probably just get a PS2 and wait for the Revolution to play those GCN games...that is if you can wait after Zelda TTP launches.
