I thought willco said all that because the Deadites weren't really zombies. I liked 28 Days and the Dawn remake, but those are out there. A zombie should not talk or run. Unless it's a crimson head, then just wet your pants and die in the fetal position.

What about falling in line to dance with zombie Michael Jackson?

Most of Willco's post was a crude attempt at explaining why Romero was 'The Answer'.

Incidentally, why can't zombies talk or run? That's only Romero's conception of what a 'zombie' should be. It's an open question.

Taken from the old Marvel Universe definition:

Known Superhuman Powers: As a zombie, Simon Garth possessed certain supernatural abilities derived from the loa (voodoo spirits) which inhabited and reanimated his form after death. Garth was not a typical zombie, however. For reasons beyond explanation, his spirit never fully left his body at death. Hence, at times, Garth's persona was able to assume partial control over his body's actions. This occurred only when the Zombie encountered situations which had heavy emotional connections to his mortal life.

Simon Garth's lifeless, reanimated body possessed a supernatural healing ability, enabling him to regenerate missing or injured tissue or mend broken bones. Thus he could fully recover from small burns, lacerations, and gunshot wounds within a matter of hours. The Zombie could not regenerate missing limbs, although a severed limb pressed against the area it came from would probably reattach itself. A zombie's flesh can be burned so totally that it cannot recover. To facilitate regeneration (and to prevent their bodies from rotting away completely), zombies have to consume the fleshy tissue of recently killed animals or human beings at least once per week. Not truly alive, zombies are immune to certain other mortal vulnerabilities, including suffocation, extremes of temperature and pressure, high voltage electricity, and poisonous gas. Garth's Zombie once walked the ocean floor without harm.

Zombies possess neglible brain activity and thus no reasoning, memory, or sensory capacities. They cannot see, hear, smell, taste, or feel. Zombies are impervious to pain. Instead of mortal senses, the Loa animating a zombie grant it certain primitive mystical senses. Most developed of these is a zombie's ability to perceive the call of its master, motivating it to move in that direction. Garth wore an amulet around his neck and could be verbally commanded by anyone in possession of its counterpart. Since zombies are incapable of independent thought, they cannot speak of their own accord. They can, however, respond in a designated manner if their master so directs them. The lingering presence of his spirit enabled Garth to speak independently on extremely rare occasions.

Zombies are vulnerable to the voodoo which gives them animation. The proper incantation and treatment of a voodoo doll can cause supernatural, debilitating pain to a zombie. A zombie can also be put to rest through the appropriate voodoo ceremony which forces the loa from his body.

Your definition of 'best zombie film' turns on the notion of impact (whether on the genre or on film in general). That's your prerogative, but it's not the only definition of 'best zombie film'. If you were educated, you would realise that. Probably.

You're banned, so you can't reply, but I'm going to reply anyway. I never said that impact alone placed Romero's films on a pedestal. It was one of the many reasons why I believe that either Return of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead are equally the best of the respective genre, but apparently you cannot read, so you did not see the other reasons that I listed as why Romero's films are superior. I also never said that my opinion was fact and I even said several times that it was my opinion, as almost all film discussions are, so you can get off your high horse when you're unbanned.

If you were educated, you probably would realize that, but y'know. Probably.

Further, given your own criterion, 'White Zombie' would probably be a better choice than 'Romero'. 'White Zombie' is generally acknowledged as having created the zombie genre, and it also serves as a powerful example of the evolution of film itself.

I never said Romero created the genre. If you were educated, you would realize that. Let's pull a quote for those playing at home:

He completely redefined the genre...

That pretty much insinuates that I know he didn't create the genre. You probably would've read that if you were an educated man and all, though.

People who mention films like Evil Dead 2, albeit a great film, should be immediately banned from any horror discussions.

Why?

Because you do not know your shit.

I probably know more about horror films that you, so shut up and don't be so anal in a thread that was clearly started by somebody who is new to horror films. Or I'll haxx0r your computer.

Wild Zero and Stacy are two prime example of great concepts in japanese movies being HORRIBLY EXECUTED.

Wild Zero had funny posturing and funny quote ('LOVE TRANSCENDS RACE, GENDER AND LOOK! ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!") but it really was a cheapo promotion thing for the band. Some of the effects were absolutely terrible, and the story was very meh

Stacy had a cool backstory (.. for a zombie movie) yet it was so terribly executed. Lot of neat gore shots, but god damn the movie was shit. The infopublicty for the chainsaw is classic stuff. Too bad the rest is crap. I liked the barrels with decapitated pieces of schoolgirls (still with the uniform), and the autopsy scene that was lifted straight from Return of the Living dead. The whole thing about having to split zombies in 629 parts to kill them was good too.

The girl trio was fruity as fuck. And the whole thing about the dude falling in love / taking care of a zombie schoolgirl ... :lol :lol :lol
