Apple buys small companies with exciting new technologies. See Nuance, for example. So we can never really know who they might buy next because we're not as privy to the R&D process as much as we are to merely the products of that R&D.

But in a dream world, they'd buy Netflix and use all their negotiation muscle as demonstrated with the record companies to offer a better streaming selection.

I think both are bad ideas given how most of the companies Netflix and Hulu have deals with are going to raise the costs of their licensing deals even if Apple doesn't buy them. Apple buying either one of them will make the content providers raise the costs even higher.

Not exactly that. But the fact that Apple puts its money in marketable bonds (that they can sell tomorrow and get that equivalent in cash) means they don't really have that much cash.

How would buying Netflix improve its overall service? at the end of the day the amount of content available is left up to the content creators and publishers.

but those were all successful because of their software. They have to continue to innovate in the software space. As it is now, their mapping software is dreadful. Hopefully they can improve that and their location based software.

I remember reading that Apple is making their own maps to get away from Google maps, maybe that'll bring some innovation to it.

I certainly hope so. Their iOS seems to be getting a it stagnant as of late. I watched a video of Android's new tablet os and it was amazing. I'd love to see most customization options..

Today's IT is really scewed. If you can keep a cool head and know your market you can make obscene amount of money but if you're too wide or try to capture the whole market you risk losing everything. I don't think Apple really meant to be this succesful which is pretty evident with their profits. They can't spend it. Personally I think they'll give it away to someone or something when they find a cause worth commiting to.

I just believe it's funny to jump at correcting technicalities that have no bearing on the actual discussion. Here, the OP refers to Apple's "cash" again, so there was the possibility of you arguing against that characterization again.

Fruit orchards
R&D Facilities
Auditoriums for WWDC etc
A fitness centre
Dedicated power plant (runs on natural gas) to generate the electricity.

That will cost quite a bit of money.
