Fuckin 80s! Then 70s then early-mid 90s.

so 25 years of music? you narrowed it down completely....:lol

kidding man, it's really hard to narrow down a favorite decade of music so I can't really say anything

Fuck decade. 1978

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food
Television - Marquee Moon
Pere Ubu - Datapanik in the Year Zero
Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
Tonio K - Life in the Food Chain
Wire - Chairs Missing

Followed closely by 1979:

Funky Four Plus One More - Rappin' and Rockin' the House

I was just going to say "the 90s" and be done with it, but the new stipulations of this thread have given me a chance to indulge in sonic bliss.

1990: Alice In Chains - Facelift - Man in the Box
1991: The Smashing Pumpkins - Gish - I Am One
1992: Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power - Walk
1993: The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream - Today
1994: Korn - Korn - Blind
1995: White Zombie - Astro Creep: 2000 - More Human Than Human
1996: Tool - Ænima - Ænema
1997: Metallica - ReLoad - The Unforgiven II
1998: System of a Down - System of a Down - Sugar

Now '99 was a big year. It sticks out in my mind as THE year, in fact. Coupled with 2000, it stands out as the pinnacle of music matching my tastes, which have gradually eroded over the past decade to a rather slim selection of artists. Rather than strip down a major aural orgasm, we have some ties.

1999:
Filter - Title Of Record - Take A Picture
Foo Fighters - There Is Nothing Left To Lose - Learn To Fly
Powerman 5000 - Tonight the Stars Revolt! - When Worlds Collide
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication - Californication
Static X - Wisconsin Death Trip - I'm With Stupid
Stone Temple Pilots - Nº 4 - Sour Girl

My favourite would be the 80s. Why?

I was listening to that a little earlier for the first time in quite a while and it reminded me of how much I miss the 90s. The just don't make songs (and music videos) like that anymore.

This decade. It's been the best so far for a metal fan.
It's really only been better than the 90s if you're hard into Deathcore. I mean, it's been descent overall but Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Nu-Metal, and even Industrial Metal have all seen better times. The late 90s and early 2000s saw a lot of melodic Death Metal (which is my favorite kind) but I still consider the best songs of my favorite artists to be in their earlier 90s albums. Shit, not that you got me thinking about it this decade has been pretty good.

After discovering Led Zeppelin for the first time (not to mention all the other badass rock from the 60's) I ripped the antenna off of my car. I'll never need the radio again. All the music worth listening to was made in one single decade.

Um... no?
You forgot the best kind of metal, progressive metal. This decade has been the best for it with Opeth, Shadow Gallery, BTBAM, Dream Theater, Liquid Tension, Devin Townsend etc. Deathcore is fucking terrible.
With bands like Insomnium, Kalmah and Dark Tranquility I'd say melodeath is in it's prime as well. And you should be ashamed for listing Nu-metal.

man i just played buzzcocks and gang of four at the bar.... doing that did a good job reaffirming why i love the 70s oh so much.

I really can't decide here. I absolutely love Jazz, But it's quite spread out.

So it's pretty much down between the 60's and 70's, Best pop, funk, bit of disco, Beginning of rap, and so forth.

I'll go with 70's. 10 songs from it

Not Just Knee Deep: (George Clinton)
Don't stop till you get enough: (Micheal Jackson)
Bohemian Rhapsody: Queen(80's were great to them too)
Get Up Sex Machine(James Brown)
Fame(David Bowie)
Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Kung Fu Fighting(Carl Douglas)
Play That Funky Music(Wild Cherry)
Stayin' Alive(Bee Gees)
Rapper's Delight(Sugar Hill Gang)

No kidding, especially Chris Cornell.

For the love of god, don't' partner with Timbaland EVER AGAIN :lol

:'(

I adore just about any music from any time period prior to about...1997 or so. I can't pinpoint the exact date. There were a few great hits beyond that and into the new millennium. But at some point, everything started to become bland and same-sounding. And it's remained that way ever since. For me, 'white' music died around the time grunge became popular. But R&B and rap remained good through the 90's decade before hitting it's own rut.

When it comes to 'Rock', I guess I'll go with the 80's. Just so much diversity, so much creativity. That was until record companies found out it wasn't as profitable financing one or two-hit wonders and started creating and selling brands. Also, music was much more lighter in tone then, which I strongly prefer.

I also have a strong adoration for the singers and songs of the pre-rock era and for classical and folk music as well, but I don't think that's what this topic is about.

At least most people who chose 70s are doing it for good reasons rather than shouting "Zeppelin!" to the heavens.

I have to go with nostalgia-tinged 90s. Never thought I'd be nostalgic for highschool, but there you go.

The 60s was perhaps the most interesting decade because there were so many trailblazers that listened to each others work and "answered" back with their own records.

90s as my personal favorite however.

This decade has some good stuff, but mainstream music didn't have the same spark as previous decades, there's just a "crowded" feeling when I think about this decade
(but that might be due to it being an "even" decade, because I feel the same about the 80's and 60's. 70's and 90's feel more open.)
The 90's did a pretty good job of balancing everything

90's Drum & Bass/Jungle scene was amazing.

R.A.W with Hardstyle and Ragga sets, Congo Natty, huge parties, Raggae style MC's that knew when to shut up. Some of the best drum editing and sampling in the history of electronic music...

Such a great time for music.

I can't decide between the 80s or 90s, both decades saw some amazing hip hop music

brooklyn keeps on taking it, manhattan keeps on making it
bronx keeps creating it and queens keeps on faking it

I was a fiend...

You can't stop the prophet

:D

I'm more of a casual hip-hop fan, so please pardon its exclusion. But based upon stuff I truly, truly love...

70s - Pink Floyd, Styx, Iron Maiden
80s - The Smiths, The Cure, NIN
90s - Tool, Cursive, At the Gates, Ben Folds (Five), The Weakerthans
00s - Nickleback? lol no. M83, The Most Serene Republic, From a Second Story Window

S'a difficult decision. Looks like the 90s in terms of quantity, but quality... I just can't pick.

70s had some amazing bands at their peak (Floyd, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Skynyrd, Queen, T-Rex, Rush)
I'm a child of the 90s though, it's my era, so nostalgia alone takes it for me (I couldn't pick 10 so you get 15 instead)

70s rule! Age of awesome rock and classic heavy metal! It was a very varied decade but as I'm a rock&metal fan I'll concentrate on that a bit. I love many many bands that are not mentioned here (like Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, The Who (they had awesome 70s albums), Genesis with Peter Gabriel, Rainbow etc etc. The 70s took the foundations laid in the 60s and made one breakthrouh after another. I like to think of it as a decade of experimentation without rules. Still, the rocking parts were the best .:D

1970 Birth of real heavy metal! Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
1971 Getting heavier, yeaah! Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave or Into the Void
1972 Bowie rising! David Bowie - Moonage Daydream
1973 Sabbath still rocking: Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
1974 Stormbringer coming! Deep Purple - Stormbringer
1975 UFO! UFO - Let it roll
1976 from station to station David Bowie - Station to Station
1977 Judas Priest rocking pretty hard: Judas Priest - Dissident Aggressor
1978 We can be heroes! David Bowie - Heroes
1979 Overkill! Motörhead - Overkill

The 60s were awesome as well but most of the 60s bands I love had some of their best stuff released in the 70s, so... :)
The 80s had some cool metal...I just didn't like the direction many pop artists took. The 90s were cool as well but I only really like a handful of bands. I never had contact with the good 90s stuff as a child because most people listened to europop/boygroups etc at the time. I never lliked that garbage and heard some classical music instead. :D Looking back I can listen to the "garbage" again with nostalgia, actually but it's more fun than anything. I have yet to find (popular) music (edit:) or metal after 2000 that I really llike, apart from a few exceptions, of course.
