Star Wars: Outlaws
Fucking hated this at first, but grew to like it and hitting the rhythm became addictive

Hogwarts Legacy
Pretty simple. Was a bit weird at first but quickly got it

Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Fucking gross. In every way.

Starfield
Probably my favourite of the four, marginally ahead of Hogwarts

Hogwarts was a pain in the arse because there's so many of them and they never change, a level 1 lock and a level 3 lock are exactly the same "puzzle"

I like KCD's the most. It's fun, and you can compesate your character's lack of skill with your own.

Best hacking hands down is in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Lockpicking...a lot of similar ones, but I think Skyrim had a pretty good one. Same with the Splinter Cell games. If I remember correctly, Thief (2014) had a surprisingly good one too.

Direct, efficient, to the point, and satisfying.

Atomic Heart. Just the circular locks, not the small handful that's actually a knock off of the regular gaming lockpicking.

none
i'd say if you need to squeeze gameplay for your game with a stupid minigame repeated thousand times, your game has bigger issues.

I like the Hold down X and watch a lined circle get shorter till it unlocks. Upgrades to make the waiting shorter.
Picks not required.

Dying Light.

I don't like this kind of stalling -which they consider "immersion" - in my games. But if this kind of thing has to be included, I think it should be like the minigame in Dying Light.

It even ends up being somewhat fun.

KCD is good because it's mostly a stat check that you can supplement with trial and error, luck or your own skill. It plays worse on joypad and feels terrible to begin with, but it's just a matter of time and practise until your efforts pay off - as it should be in an RPG. Starfiled looks pretty blah, Hogwarts was just tedious and, lol, I'm never playing that Star Wars shite so whatever.

from the list...KCD...cause if everyone hates it....lockpicking is being done right. :messenger_winking_tongue:

But as someone mentioned Deux Ex Mankind.....yep...that was some fine minigame! 👍

I think the one I hate the most was Mass Effect's 1 frogger minigame. It was fine for the first few hours but by the end I was sick of it.

Nier Automata hacking game was the only "mini-game" that I thought was fun and not "annoying filler".

KCD, but I admit it's much more annoying with a controller compared to kb + mouse.
True. When I got the hang of using the controller it was actually challenging but possible, and so added to the immersion already present in abundance

Starfield was great.

That said, I don't mind Avowed approach of not bothering with it at all. Just press a button!
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how Avowed had tackled the lock picking mechanic.

The best lock pick though is in Skyrim where you get the unbreakable lock pick. I only gave it back once to get the achievement, but normally I do that quest line first so I can get it early in the game.

I liked the lockpicking in Dying Light 2, because you couldn't see anything beyond the outside of the lock, you could only feel whether it was working or not. That was a good realistic approach.

Unless I am specifically playing an immersive sim with stealth as its making thing, I hate them all so usually promptly mod them out if I can.

I like the concept of putting games into my games. ;) But most of these gameception games are usually very uninspired, bland and boring...thats true. Awoed also takes the first place here. Just tap a button...yeah sure! Thats not lockpicking...thats simply opening a chest. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

They are all awful, and generally a chore, except for what Skyrim did.

Starfield in particular can do one. And Bioshock - urgh.

I watched the KCD tutorial three times and I still have no idea what I'm supposed to do.

The in-game tutorial is terrible, too.

You need to find the bright yellow spot....and try to keep it on the same position while turning the lock. 🤷‍♂️ But yeah, its nearly impossible to do it in the beginning without having leveled/practicing it for a bit (at the miller location).

They are all bad. There has never been an instance in a game where im 10-20 hours in and want to do a lockpicking minigame.
