Used a windows 8 touch screen sony vaio, acknowledged apple and its macbook, used an Alienware 15r3 for gaming, and that ended up in a dumpster with motherboard failure. I think my last laptop was an HP and I shouldn’t have sold that.

Review of the first Snapdragon based laptops here.

I'm eyeing one up in 2025 (hopefully an Asus Zenbook) at which point my current machine will be 3 years old.

I was looking for the tech help/advice thread but figured this'll do:

I haven't had a computer/desktop since 2010.
Friend is offering me her MacBook Pro from 2015 for $150.

I don't know shit about tech but feel I need a computer/desktop/laptop already.

Doubt I'll use it for games.
A fancy computer sounds enticing..

But I think I'd rather one that gets me by, is competent and doesn't necessarily break the bank. Any ideas, suggestion...? Or is the MacBook Pro from 2015 a good deal??..

M3 pro (w/ 36 GB RAM), it's unbeatable for work... and even if go to a coffee shop to work for 5 hours or something, I never bring a charger anymore, it'll just last.

Also very powerful for machine learning experiments once you can get the mps versions of pytorch etc installed properly.

M3 MacBook Air 15” with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

I don’t use it for anything demanding so that’s more than enough for me but I love it. Solid built and never any issues. I have my PC for gaming and doing intensive stuff.

I had a laptop several years ago, but only used it a couple of times a year for light word processing and emails after getting an iPad. When I needed it, the battery would be dead and that just shortened the life of it.
When I upgraded to an iPad 10, I bought a Logitech keyboard that plugs directly into the Smart Connector. I now have a laptop that I never need to charge because my laptop is also my iPad, which I use and charge daily.

It may not be for everyone, but it has really simplified my life.

I get it. I use my iPads way more than my laptop for average tasks.

I have an M2 Mac Mini which does the heavy lifting for apps like Plex and Handbrake while the Steam Deck is perfect for gaming. I even got rid of my PC gaming setup/desk, since I wasn’t using it anymore. Instead I have it all setup under the TV in the living room which is far more convenient.

upgraded to a 2024 Asus G14 Zephyrus. The Oled screen is amazing. Don't use my ipad much anymore.

MSI Vector GP68 HX 12V.
Basically a 4080 RTX laptop.

Love it, use it every day for gaming. Only downside is V-ram is a bit low 12gb, but it does the job.

I'm using an HP book

Upgraded in the last few weeks from a 2018 Dual core intel MacBook Air to a 14in base M4 with 24g of ram and TB SSD.

quite good. Screen is great. Plenty of power. Keyboard is a big difference.

2023 Asus M16 w/ RTX4080.

I'm going to give it to my brother since he needs a laptop and I'm gong to but a 2025 Razer Blade 16 with the 5080/9.

Had a 2019 Razer Blade 15 before and love it. I must have spilled coffee on it multiple times and dropped it, and it still run perfectly, lol.

Had a 2023 Mini LED 4090 Razer Blade 16 but dropped it pissed up the other week and broke the screen. Luckily Razer had offered me a free side grade to the OLED 2024 model as they don't have the screen in-stock.

I Was planning on getting the new 5090 model mainly for the Ryzen processor and OLED screen . I think I'll just keep what i have until the 60 series cards turn up.

Great laptop though.

Ended up getting a Zenbook S 14 for £835 around Black Friday.

The new Intel Lunar Lake processors have really decent battery life.

Tend to rock 10-12hrs comfortablee on a full charge and it charges very fast.

Macbook Pro 13”, M3 Pro, 36GB RAM. For university only, no gaming. I recently got a cheap iPad M1 as well so I can draw mindmaps. Both work great together.
