I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
I really need a new compunter. At the moment I have a pentium three and its totally screwed up, the hard drive has something very very wrong with it and I keep getting countless viruses on it. I want to get a new computer but I don't want to buy one now if the Pentium 5 is going to come out anytime soon.

I think they said recently they were going to change from the direction they were headed in (i.e. taking the Pentium 4 as a base and making it better) and design a new chip (new design). So I wouldn't expect it for a while but I may just be horribly un/informed :)

Well I've googled and found nothing other than old reports and lots of fuzzy information.

Sounds like your problem is you're treating your computer like crap (processor isn't going to help against viruses and popups or bad harddrives).

whichever you buy, get a keyboard where the 'n' key is further away from the 'm' than that one you are using now.

Seriously though, just buy one now. They are pretty much stable at the moment, and I don't see any big reason coming up other than 64bit Windows, which will take a year or two to see big changes.

A G5 processor does, there are simple no viruses for OS X. :)

Yeah, but then you have to count those swarmy pretentious art-fags* as your compadres. I'd rather have the viruses.

Yeah, but there's also no games... unless you count Warcraft, Starcraft, Breakout and ummm.... Super Breakout!

Moho! That was his damn name. I've been trying my damndest to remember!

I'm guessing Intel's dual core processors that are planned to be out Summer 2005 will be the Pentium 5 processors.

The name means very little.

The P4 Northwood 400 FSB is a completely different processor P4 Northwood 800 FSB with HT.

If you want intel, the best processors right now are the Northwoods 800 FSB w/ HT (the "C" processor). The Socket 478 and LGA775 prescotts run way too hot and don't overclock well. They also don't perform well.

Right now though, AMD has the best processors (especially if you don't OC). Just over a year ago, intel did.

"I'm too poor to pay $800 for a P4 so I can run MAME without it chugging"

What intel processor would you pay $800 for? The overpriced Extreme Editions? I've got a $200 P4 3.0 C running rock stable at 3.6 GHz right now. I'll concede that I had to pay $60 for a better HS/fan, but that's still a far cry from $800. It performs very well though. In sisoft, it compares the the 4.0 GHz LGA prescott that was recently canceled.

Or Quake3, Sims2, Homeworld2, Battlefield 1942, KOTR, Simcity 4, Call of Duty, Splinter Cell, Command & Conquer (entire series), Delta Force, Deus Ex, Medal of Honor series, Men of Valor, Lord of the Rings (series), Tony Hawk, True Crime, World of Warcraft, The Incredibles, Railroad Tycoon3, Shrek2.... etc.

Perhaps back in the 80s where your opinion of the mac came from that was true, but perhaps you might want to ya know, update yourself.
