I'm guessing Intel's dual core processors that are planned to be out Summer 2005 will be the Pentium 5 processors.
The name means very little.
The P4 Northwood 400 FSB is a completely different processor P4 Northwood 800 FSB with HT.
If you want intel, the best processors right now are the Northwoods 800 FSB w/ HT (the "C" processor). The Socket 478 and LGA775 prescotts run way too hot and don't overclock well. They also don't perform well.
Right now though, AMD has the best processors (especially if you don't OC). Just over a year ago, intel did.
"I'm too poor to pay $800 for a P4 so I can run MAME without it chugging"
What intel processor would you pay $800 for? The overpriced Extreme Editions? I've got a $200 P4 3.0 C running rock stable at 3.6 GHz right now. I'll concede that I had to pay $60 for a better HS/fan, but that's still a far cry from $800. It performs very well though. In sisoft, it compares the the 4.0 GHz LGA prescott that was recently canceled.
