I don't like this either, BUT ain't nobody is gonna tell me that their story telling isn't amazing, especially for an open world game. They want you to progress the story the way it was designed, that's why you can't do wtf ever like in other games. You might think that this is a bad thing, an outdated design, but there's a reason why they haven't abandoned this for all these years. It's not like they couldn't do it, but if they do, you might miss what they want you to see, and for the main story, i am fine with that.
different strokes. i'm thinking i'm not as impressed with rockstar story-telling as are you & others. what i loved about rdr2 was the atmosphere, environment, & free-roam gameplay, which's what i also liked about old-school assassin's creed (never crazy about the missions in those games, either). afa actual story-telling, i preferred the first rdr (i know, go figure)...

myself? i'll be content with the rumored remake of black flag if it ever manages to appear. really loved the original...

So no Skull & Bones (lol) or Sea of Thieves. I already played Black Flag, so not that one either.

Despite being one of the more popular fictional setting, pirate games are uncommon, especially in the AAA space. I could also play some lesser-known games if they are good. I hear Sid Meier's Pirates is still the gold standard, so maybe I should give this a shot?

Recommend me some pirate games and I do mean pirate, so no game where all you do is control a vessel. I want to hunt treasure, discover islands, swashbuckle, raid ships, etc.

-Skies of Arcadia: Played it (not what I'm looking for. I want traditional piracy)
-Wind Waker: Played it (hate it)
-Assassin's Creed Black Flag
Keep an eye on crosswind

Many moons ago, someone on Gamefaqs recommended I play Suikoden IV for my pirate adventure fix.

Still yet to play it, but want to. Obviously harder to come by these days. How ironic, gotta take to the open seas to play the game.

Bought Sid Meier's Pirates (2004) and installed it. Will report back.
