Which two designers would make a great game together?

Aonuma was the man behind OoT, and most of Mario 64 as well IIRC. Miyamoto just wanders around the EAD offices exclaiming "this feels weird!" or "put some more wacky in this!" before going home at 3PM, intravenously connecting his hooka pipe, and passing out on a pile of Goomba plushies.

He's been a corporate mascot post-YI. He's a booth girl with a big office; his real job as a "producer" is legitimizing a game to the fanboy press and dressing up like a smirking fruit at tradeshows. He's old and busted, and will stay that way until he makes the 3D equivalent of Yoshi's Island.

Actually, Miyamoto was responsible for directing OoT, and Aonuma hasn't worked on any Mario games at all.

Of course, after OoT, Miyamoto hasn't really gotten his hands dirty (well, maybe Pikmin and Nintendogs, but I'm not sure) so you have a point I think.

Lorne Lanning and Tim Schafer
Kojima and Mikami
Okamoto and Mizuguchi
Warren Spector and Will Wright
Miyamoto and Nagoshi

If any of these hapen, I will get my arse hair and balls waxed.

Shigeru Miyamoto did not direct The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.

Shigeru Miyamoto does not direct games anymore. Hell, Takashi Tezuka who was directing many of the late NES/SNES games while Miyamoto produced, has not directed a game in over a decade. Truth be told, Miyamoto and Tezuka are now General Producers for the company, not even direct producers, and by no means game directors anymore. There is a new generation directing the games, and all the SNES-N64 directors are now producing the games.

heh, imagine that. people having ambitions to get promoted and paid more the longer they work at a particular company.

Sorry, but he DID direct OoT. I even played it the other week and saw his damn name under the director's credit.

Don't know where you got those credits, but they're wrong. There were several interviews which said Eiji was a level Designer on OoT before Shiggy let him be the director for MM and WW.

Edit: Oh, by the way. Shiggy said he's currently directing Mario 128, but that may change when he finds somebody willing to take the role.

Which two designers would make a great game together, and why?

What would it be like?

Forget about the economics or business reality of things, this is purely hypothetical. I'm interested in hearing your ideas. Bonus points if you don't overuse Miyamoto =)

Here are my picks:

Tetsuya Mizuguchi / Alexey Pajitnov - a rhythmic puzzle game, both deep and addictive

Yuji Naka / Shigeru Miyamoto - a fusion of the platforming, action and adventure genres, with an interesting control scheme.

Shinji Mikami / Hideo Kojima - an intense 3rd person action game with a deep storyline and cinematic appeal
End of discussion.

The only thing I can tell you now is Resident Evil 4 will definitely release only on GameCube, not on another console, if it happens, I will cut my head off. - Shinji Mikami

:P
:lol

If so:

Shinji Mekami - 11 August 1965-2005 R.I.P

Oh, and Shiggy and Naka could make the greatest platformer ever.

And Shiggy and the director for Shadow of the Colossus, (Fueda?) could make an awesome adventure game.

If depends on what game I want. If Im looking for one with guns, action, great gameplay and a gripping story I would have to go for Kojima and Mikami. If the two men behind MGS and RE4 made a game together it would be the best action game imaginable.

If i wanted a platformer, I would have to go with Naka and Miyamoto. Those two basically made platformers what they are now and if those two made a game together they could come up with something as good and original as mario or Sonic were.

These combinations are probably never going to happen, although if the rumours about Capcom and Konami are true, then we could very well see the Kojima and Mikami combination become a reality and there could be nothing greater than that.
