Which two designers would make a great game together?

Well, Miyamoto hasn't done any actual directing in a long time.. even Yoshi's Island was Takashi Tezuka I think. Oh and Warren Spector has NEVER directed/designed anything. Too bad he gets all the credit for things he was just a producer on.

Nintendo's Yoshio Sakamoto and Capcom's Hideki Kamiya would be my choice.

Well, I don't mind winning the obscurity points. And I don't think some of the fellows mentioned are still doing design at the moment. Hell, I'd work with basically anybody mentioned thus far.

But to give a specific self-absorbed example, Dyack and I.

EDIT: Okay, an elsewhere choice would be Aonuma and Sid Meier. Civ nintendo-ized, SimCity SNES style? Hell yes.

Wtf? No tim schafer love?

His story and writing + someone else's gameplay design would make the best game ever

Maybe miyamoto, his games are more about gameplay than story, and they'd probably compliment eachother nicely..

Kazuma Kaneko + Shouzou Kaga

And just for laughs:

Tetsuya Takahashi (Xeno-) + Tetsuya Nomura (you know who this guy is)

Martin Hollis and Richard Tucker
*uhh, they're already working together on Funkydilla (UbiZoonami)* :)

Shigesato Itoi and Shigeru Miyamoto

That Kirby maker and Takashi Tezuka

Just thought sombody with some sense should chime in: When you speak of one designer, you fools must not realize that there are SMALL (and in some cases LARGE) ARMIES of brilliant, talented, and dedicated individuals working on the project that the OMG Legendary Game Designers/Divas/Rockstars/Whathaveyous get their name put on the boxe. (The only
exception to this is when someone makes the game entirely by theirselves, in which case they deserve all the credit because they did all the work.) Games are a mixture of gameplay, sound, art, technical aspects, and design. This discussion should not be about designers, but about individual teams, like a company's art, programming, or design teams. For the record though, MY dream collaboration is the technology of epic, and everything else of Bioware.
(Already happening, Mass Effect Bitches!!!!) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

?

I dunno, it pretty clearly started out as a famous game-people crossover/teamup thread, not a fuse multiple teams idea thread. What you say is true about devteam size and scope - and I know it better than most - but that doesn't make this thread any less relevant.

I agree with what you are saying but only to a point. I do believe that one person can make a difference on the team, especially if said person is the director / creator / overall mastermind behind the project.

I'm sorry, I just get upset when people think one designer should get all the credit for ALL OF THE WORK THAT THE TEAM DID. Anyhoo, my crazyland, ain't never gonna happen fantasy entry for this thread is Yu Suzuki and whoever made Trackmania Sunrise.
(Smooth+Inspired=Brilliance only the sun can match.)
P.S. Who are you (or, in lieu of that, what have you worked on), wise Moogle that is in fact Crazy?

Toshio Iwai and Jeff Minter.
you're on to something there. make it a threesome with Mizuguchi, give them some shrooms while they come up with a concept...no wait, fuck that, just give them DMT at that point.

oh, and even though he's not in the industry, Takashi Mike should team up with either Mikami, or Kojima, or the both of them.

...The Twilight Yiff or whatever comes out next year and cockpunches your pleasure centers into submission.
:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
I laughed so hard the entire library turned around to stare!

If Yasunari Kitase and Kou Shibusawa made sweet love they'd produce political strategy game set in a Final Fantasy world.

I'm surprised, a lot of people have given some really cool answers in this thread.

The Mikami/Kojima, Will Wright/Valve, and Spector/Blizzard answers are all really good. In particular, I would love to see Spector's open ended game design match with Blizzard's mastery in making approachable, deep games with mainstream appeal.

Akitoshi Kawazu and Yasumi Matsuno on a strategy RPG-like game.

It'd blow Andrew Vestal's mind, and would drown me in stats and arbitrary customization rules. I'd probably go catatonic from pure nerd overload.

Miyamoto hasn't done SHIT since the 16-bit days. He wouldn't know what to do with modern game design if it threw him over the hobbyhorse and yanked his acid-washed jeans to his ankles. The dude you nostalgia-crippled fruits want is the REAL talent at EAD, Eiji Aonuma.

I agree with the Kawazu and Matsuno combination, that'd just be a match made in heaven and would make all cinematic RPG lovers such as the aforementioned person explode from an overload of RPG quality.

Shozo Kaga and Yasumi Matsuno would also be a good combination for the ultimate SRPG that isn't just stat/powerleveling-based, but also strategy/puzzle-based.

and yeah people need to stop mentioning executive producers such as Miyamoto, Sakaguchi, and others. These people don't do fucking jack anymore.

Dyak and Kojima.

oh jesus don't mention Dyack's name with anyone!

chrono trigger?

Yasunori Mitsuda did chrono trigger too (thought he only did cross)? Well that explains why I've had one of the battle themes from it stuck in my head for the last few days.

Naka + Miyamoto....god. I can't even imagine how good that game would be.

I'm surprised I'm the first one to do this, but Will Wright + Peter Molyneux...in fact, Molyneux should just latch himself onto the Spore project. That would rule.

edit: To whoever said Kojima/Jaffe....that is definitely a great one, nice work. :D

Half these people would kill each other if they worked on the same project.

Two visionaries on one game often leads to mud.

George Broussard and Peter Molyneux.

Game would become so huge and ambitious it'd get revamped several times and never come out. Or if it would, it'd be disappointingly compromized to meet reality.

Oh wait, both of these gents can pull that off alone too.

After finally playing RE4, I definitely agree with a Mikami-Kojima match-up. What's up with Mikami anyway? Did he quit Capcom? :P

Aonuma was the man behind OoT, and most of Mario 64 as well IIRC.

Not true of Mario 64, Miyamoto's actually the director there(it was the last time he was credited as one). First time since 1986, too. :P

The only thing I can tell you now is Resident Evil 4 will definitely release only on GameCube, not on another console, if it happens, I will cut my head off. - Shinji Mikami

:P

Masato Maegawa and the producer of Halo (Alex Seropian?)
Richard Gariott and Yuji Horii
Yu Suzuki and Tomonobu Itagaki
Yuji Horii and Hironobu Sakaguchi, AGAIN

yeah, when WW is on -- like in the first three real dungeons - it is ON like Charles fucking Bronson. Those first three dungeons are some of the best in Zelda, although the Stone Tower in Aonuma's Zelda magnum opus, Majora's Mask, trumps 'em still. Wind Waker was rushed, and that's not Aonuma's fault. You'll all be begging to go down on his fourteen inches of game design genius when The Twilight Yiff or whatever comes out next year and cockpunches your pleasure centers into submission.

that was.. um.. highly disturbing.

Itagaki is a producer, he's never been a 'lead game designer' on any of his projects. He's just an ugly dude that likes to take all the credit.

Fumito Ueda and David Jaffe

That means: a great adventure game with lots of style, awesome puzzles, great combats, huge beasts, huge breasts, awesome soundtrack but ... a bit short.
