Who are your favorite comedians?

Dacvak

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
Especially ones that are active right now. I recently discovered Shane Gillis, and his work is hilarious.

Obviously love all the greats, like Norm, Carlin, CK, Chappelle, etc. But I've been looking for new comics lately. Who do you guys like?

I like the comedians that right on the verge of popping off and becoming huge, likeMatt Mckusker, Tim Butterly, Na'im Ali, Chris Faga, and Dru Montana and the such.

There was a comedy duo in Japan called 99. (i would say almost a troupe given the number of times I watched them invite their friends on for mayhem)

Ninety-nine (owarai) - Wikipedia https://share.google/RHNJUOgEHfhXtPkeO

They would do stuff that had me in tears. They had one "game" where they pair people up and put them in swim gear. The pair would walk out onto a platform then have their noses plugged so they couldn't anything very well. Then someone would come out and feed them something and they had to guess what it was BUT they couldn't give each other hints if they knew what it was. Then they would have like a minute i think to figure it out. And they would have to say it at the same time on the count of 3. If they guessed right, nothing happened, if they guessed wrong, they would be dropped 8 to 10 feet into a pool of ice water. Like there would be ice floating in the water.

They would do other things too. Another one that cracks me up is the studio would pick a restaurant. Then the gang would go with a special guest. Then, with no prices, they had to spend as close to a targey dollar amount as they could. Loser was the one furthest from the price and they would have to pay for everyone's meal in cash. But you would have cocky people who would say I'm only bringing $50 usd equivelant. Holy cow, it might not sound funny, but before dessert, the host would say, ok the person furthest away from the price is $X so then people start stacking up desserts (they eat everything so it isn't wasteful.) My wife and I would watch as guests who have no idea about fancy cuisines would be ordering food like there is no tomorrow, thinking about how much they would pay for something, not the actual price.

I'm telling you some of the stuff these guys did was really funny. If you can find some stuff online that maybe is translated a bit, I would check them out.

They had another one where they suspended the troupe above a pool of ice water and had them try to fall asleep. Last one to fall asleep (they were wearing monitors and a sleep doctor was also consulting with them) would get dropped in the pool via a trapdoor under their futon. Above them were lights and as a person fell asleep, a light went off. When there were only a couple of lights left, the remaining people would be trying to go to sleep but their monitors were showing them as stressed out. They would try to fake but the doctor is like, no, he's not sleeping.

Super funny

Sorry so long.

Adam Carolla (with Dr. Drew) during the Loveline years was funny as hell. He was just so quick and clever, and mean-spirited but in the damn funniest way. He's gone pretty south in the past several years and I cannot listen to his show anymore, but that duo & their chemistry would crack me up pretty regularly.

I guess my theme in general is "don't really follow these comedians anymore or their later work doesn't do much for me, but the early stuff when they were young & hungry was excellent" - Ali Wong, Brian Posehn, Chris Fairbanks, Chris Hardwick, Patton Oswalt (and of course Louie who is evergreen). Living in Hollywood I was very fortunate to catch these guys (& many others) in their prime at small local clubs back in the early 00's.

Of course Mitch was incredible, RIP. If you are a fan of his weirdo type of thinking, check out Steven Wright if you are not already aware of his work. Just so bizarre and absurd.

EDIT: Not standup, but Danny McBride is great, I will watch anything that he does.

In terms of the current crop of US comedians I like Shane, Sam Morril, Mark Normand, and Stavros Halkias is great on podcasts. The only pod I listen to every episode of is Are You Garbage.

UK my favourites are still Stewart Lee and Nick Helm - both of whom can split a room.

I'm a big fan of Mike Reid and Jethro, they're probably not that well known in the US. Back in the day I liked chubby brown and Bernard manning but haven't really listened to them for decades.

Fun fact for anyone that is familiar with jethro, just after he died the trains didn't stop camborne Wednesday.

Older Jim Jefferies material before he got domesticated 😁

Edit: Shane Gillis gave me some good giggles recently.
