You do realize that Valve auto-detects your card and changes the settings based on it - and despite the GeforceFX 5600 being only a year old it defaults to DX8 to make the game playable, right? Try turning DX9 effects on (I hear it's quite a pain), and see how that affects your framerate.

A friend of mine has a GeForce4 MX with about the same CPU speed as I do and he said it was running fine for him as well.
What? If you can run Doom 3, no way in hell can you not run Half-Life 2. My graphics card is a Radeon 9500 Pro (that's what, 2 years old now at least?) and I run the game at a decent resolution with relatively high detail and all the DX9 effects turned on and haven't hit a framerate bump yet.

I was just trying to say that you don't need top-o-the-line hardware to play the game, that's all. If you want the crazy eye-candy (and who wouldn't) that's a different story.
I finished the game last night and I'm kind of depressed. Not because it was bad or anything...I just can't face the idea of having to wait 5 more years for another fix.
Usually I can do without, but this is the one pc game that really makes it hard to have a Mac. I'd build a new pc, but I really can't justify spending the cash. Sad Christmas.
POwerful Laptop, weaksuace graphics card. Seriously, im gonna get it for Xbox 2, not to fussed about not being able to play it anyway. Mouse and Keyboard = headache for me

And I'm using my laptop to play HL2 and it looks great considering the graphics card is pretty shitty. I can't wait to play it on my home computer tomorrow night.

Meh, I'll just wait for the updated version on Xbox 2. Maybe they will by then add a multiplayer mode worth a shit. Until then, games like Halo 2, Ghost Recon 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Gran Turismo 4, Resident Evil 4, Conker: Live & Reloaded and hundreds of other awesome games on the consoles will pass the time without thought about it. Besides, I bet an Xbox 2 version will be alot better anyhow.
