This isn't the 1950s anymore. The Cockatrice if you've seen any modern live footage of situations where large groups of people are in danger, it is instant chaos. People trampling over others, pushing, shoving, fighting, etc.

So this theoretical wouldn't even matter, because it will come down to two things: Those who survive and those who don't. All rules are off.
