Who is pumped for multiplayer Metriod Prime 2: Echoes action?

No thanks.
But I did enjoy the Prime 2 demo.

It looks pretty cool. It doesn't look like your typical deathmatch mode. I am especially looking forward to playing as the Dark Hunter since it seems to have some pretty far out moves like that one where it stops in mid air and then charges at you.

I'm surprised that there aren't more people screaming bloody murder because a Metroid game has a multiplayer mode.

Oh there are, just not in this thread yet.

The multiplayer in the game is pretty fun. I hope the levels are better designed than the E3 demo though.

Metroid is to be played and enjoyed by no more than just one individual. No. I'm not ready for multi-player action in my intimate Metroid. What the hell is that? Does anyone know what it really is like to play Metroid? It is to be played solo, the whole atmosphere gives off this feeling of loneliness and discovery. Who. Tell me. Who's idea was it to implement multi-player within this series? Oh, I know. Those who think Metroid Prime was a 'First Person Shooter'. That's who. Those that just got hip with the Metroid saga. Go and do some homework. Then you'll realize.

Nope. I'm not anticipating Metroid Prime 2's multi-player experience. I'm actually cringing at the idea. I weep for the future. And hold a candle vigil for those that were lost in not witnessing the truth: Metroid Prime is not a First Person Shooter. Hence, there is no friggin' need for multi-player. It will only tarnish [for the first time in the Metroid legacy] it's reputation.

Multi-player in metroid...silly.

Yeah, I got's a big problem with mult-player being within my Metroid. Why? Metroid was mine. Mine alone to share in all it's discoveries. It's that feeling you get when you play it. Fanboys are ruining that experience. Thanks a lot. Your request for the non-needed ruined my anticipation and purchase of what will most likely be a successful sequel. Yet I will pass by it's display case with head down. Listening to those praising the advent of multi-player in 'my metroid'. Shucks...

Yeah, it's just an extra feature. Nobody is forcing you to play it. And your whole thing about atmosphere... I don't understand it. I mean, if they included co-op, you'd have a point.

I think it's just another cheap multiplayer mode like in Billy Hatcher.. it's fun to test it out but you'd never spend all night playing against eachother.

I really do want it to prove me wrong, but I know it's going to end up that way.

Wow...

Metroid multiplayer is the stupidest idea ever.. I don't think nintendo should have listend to those people whining because prime was not "Halo"

The only 'muliplayer' I can see in metroid is sort of a MMOARPG where you compete for bounties. It would combine metroid single player in exploration of planets/space pirate hideouts/etc.. AND would add a twist to it by having you compete against other human player going after the same prize, or conspiring to hunt you down and sharing the prize between themselves, or even attack your ship and claim say the item you worked so hard to collect, etc.... There can be several kind of bounty hunters and not just samus too. You know that would be cool for a Revolution online game.... :D

SR, Retro was actually going to include multi in Prime, but admittedly ran out of dev. time. The main focus will always remain upon the single-player experience, now there's simply an extra mode to increase longevity. Like Ani said, if it was co-op you would have a point, but it isn't. Multi was both fun & addicting at E3. Lock-on really means nothing in terms of ease.

I didn't like the idea of having a multi-player in the first Prime, because I thought it was time better spent working on the single player game. Now with MP2, I've have no reservations about Retro's ability to create an excellent single player game. Multi player could be a nice addition.

That said, I'm not "pumped for multiplayer Metroid Prime 2: Echoes action."

I am pumped for some Metroid Prime 2: Echoes action.

I'm concerned about this Multi-Player Metroid. It doesn't seem fitting with what I like about the series, its absorbing single player and that sense of isolated immersion in an alien world.

At least it's not fucking Metroid Prime Hunters, where multiplayer seems to be the focus. Fuck you NST! (NST are the ones developing that one, aren't they?)

Not me, the only thing I like about the idea is uploading viruses to opponents. The rest is meh to me.

Metroid Prime Hunters starts when Shadow Samus kidnaps the seven Chozos and the King Chozo. Samus must grab the Four Power Beam to split into four different Samuses. Then you kill each other for some reason.

Rolling into a ball, grabbing powerups, playing as light and dark, hella tight split screen gameplay, so sweet.

I can almost certainly guarantee that I will NEVER play Metroid Prime 2's multiplayer mode. Ever.

Oh, and I got my demo in the mail today. It was pretty cool. I should really finish Prime one of these days. I'm pretty sure I was somewhere in the Phazon Mines and then stopped one day and never picked it up again, even though I really did like it quite a bit.

Multiplayer was a blast at E3 although I dont expect to play it much. Honestly, if me my and my buddies want to do some multiplayer FPS action, we'll be playing Halo 2. But I will make lvoe to the sweet, sweet single player action.

I think Studs Ramrod is Ian Sane from some other boards. The fat Shy Guy walkin' gives it away...I used to miss that. Me & him were known for making extremly long posts...sometimes making us look even more insane. I've toned down a lil' I think...

Anyways...Metroid is my favorite game series...I'm like obsessed. I don't mind that there's multiplayer in it, I don't mind that it went to 1ST person...I don't even mind that an American company is doing them instead of Nintendo internally. I used to think a whole lot about it and post even more...but what's the point, they're gonna do what they're gonna do regardless what I, as a huge Metroid fan, thinks or says. They certainly didn't ruin the series and there's been 2 great "classic" Metroid games to appease "purists" so waaaaaaa get over it.

I welcome the multi-player in Metroid. Not just 'cos it's Metroid themed, but 'cos I don't like the way most FPS's control. When you try to use precise aim (at least I have this problem) it seems to unrealistically take too much time. In real life, when you see something your aiming at you're not gonna slowly stick out your gun and pivot your arms then body to lock on to the target...you're gonna quickly lock on and THEN do quicker more precise aiming. To me, locking on is more realistic and it sorta evens the playing feild. Some say that it's lame 'cos it's so "easy", but the other things they've added into Metroid's multiplayer is great and is really going to deter "easy" cheating. Grapling Beam, Maru Mari (Morph Ball), the ability to download virus's to other player's suits to disable certain functions, multiple target's, physically holding down the target button to keep the lock-on...and who knows, maybe they'll add Screw Attack & Spider-Ball functions to multiplayer too...hell, I just thought about the Ice Beam...that's gonna be wicked.

I'm psyched!!!

Jesus . . . you multiplayer haters need to let go. Get with the times grandpa. That rant against multiplayer made no rational reasons and I doubt anyone can tell me why there shouldn't be a multi-player mode.

Yeah, old timer!! Split screen multiplayer action is the future!!

:D

I agree, the logical arguments elude me as well. Any game done from a 1st person viewpoint is primarily expected to have a multiplayer mode.

Well, I'll give it a chance...

Obviously, when a sequel is made to a favorite game of mine, I worry about whether or not it will be able to re-capture what made the original so special. It appears that my worries are unfounded, however, as the single player game looks excellent. My main concern with the addition of multiplayer was that Retro would pull people off of the single player component in order to work on the multiplayer aspect. I didn't want this because I really have little interest in that side of the game. Honestly, the announcement of multiplayer was just as shocking to me as "Silent Hill Online" or some MGS Deathmatch add-on would be. Thankfully, like I said, it doesn't appear to have stood in the way of the single player game.

I may give it a chance, but the fact of the matter is, I typically don't bother with multiplayer modes in most games simply because I just have no reason to. I have quite a few games with multiplayer components within that I have never touched. Just on GC alone, there is F-Zero, Sonic Heroes, and Billy Hatcher (there many more like this on other platforms as well). I mean, honestly, I don't think the multiplayer components sound awful or anything...but nobody wants to play them in that fashion. I can almost say for certain that the same thing will occur with Prime 2...but perhaps it will be something special? We'll see. I mean, upon first hearing about multiplayer Splinter Cell...I can't say I was excited. However, it turned out that Pandora Tomorrow's multiplayer mode was the very best part of that game! I highly doubt that will be the case here (that was quite a creative effort on Ubi's part), but you never know...

No online, split screen only. Hmmm. I'm thinking I'd be just as happy if this game didn't even have the stupid option.

Don't hate, celebrate!

Only on Gamecube can you got lock on split screen sweetness.

Personally, I'd be more interested in MP multi if it were special side co-op missions. Perhaps, team-based modes that might involve hunting for artifacts and gathering them before the opposing team does. You could have semi-randomly placed scanning-info-spots that help you track them down and randomly placed artifacts. Maybe survival modes for co-op, or survive and reach point A and then kill B Boss and then survive and reach point C type of stuff.

Will I be completely dismissed if I say that I'm with Ramrod on this one? I mean I'm not personally offended that the option was included or anything, and I will likely give the multiplayer a legitimate shot, but I do agree that it is counter to what Metroid has always embodied and that it's inclusion was likely a response to the MP bashers who could never move beyond the whole "FPS" thing. Call it silly pride, but it's almost like a concession to the people who didn't like the game (for the wrong reasons mind you..its an ADVENTURE game dammit!! I don't care about the perspective!!), and being someone who thoroughly enjoyed the first game for what it was, it just rubs me the wrong way..

Hope its cool though.

I'm not necessarily saying it shouldn't be there (though I do agree that it doesn't jive with the basic concept of Metroid, but I am saying that I have no interest in it whatsoever. Like Meier said, I'll play it for the single player adventure, as is fit for Metroid, and when I want to play multiplayer, there is no reason at all for me to play MP2 multi when I've got Halo 2.

While I love multiplayer games (like GoldenEye, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., etc..), and don't mind if some games include them (Echoes, Donkey Kong 64), I wouldn't judge the upcoming Metroid game at all by what it does with multiplayer, since it's a pretty unique sci-fi adventure. If a multiplayer mode is worked out that's fun, then great, but I'm going for the traditional Metroid expericence, anything else is icing on the cake...
