Who is the most successful friend in your close friend group?

In my circle of friends, it’s definite the one who is a doctor (super smart and awesome dude), then it’s me and then the rest.

The fact you are posting this in NeoGAF means you are not 2nd even though you think you are.....

/S

I am only joking. What does success mean, as in who makes the most money or who can save the most peoples lives?

I don't really know. Might be me, but most of my friends are relatively successful. My brother in law is a workaholic climbing the ladder at one of the big accounting firms, so he's probably more successful pay-wise but he also works way harder.

Maybe it's this periodontist, but I have other doctor friends too. Still, he is the most traveling of the bunch

How are you defining success? Income?
Income/job , and well In my case I don’t have an awesome job or anything (well no job at all) but I’m retired at 32 (medically retired, military life screwed up my legs and lower back but I get good benefits and compensation, so that’s kind of a good thing I guess?).

I have adhd, so im the least successful.

Tried to chase a dream and put out a shitty pop album tho, which is something, but got me ruined.
This is why I think this thread is bad for self esteem. Comparing each other is not a good idea.
Amigo, you chased your dreams, how many people can say the same thing? Also yeah you might had taken a financial an emotional hit but tons of people waste their money on way less meaningful and fulfilling ways.

I'm doing really, really well in life... But then most of my inner circle of friends are doing even better. ("You are the company you keep" and all that.) So financially and in matters of family -- having a wife and kids -- they're doing better than me.

But I'm probably the most physically fit in my group of friends, so there's that. And, not yet having a family of my own, I have the least amount of commitments so I have the most flexibility and freedom with how to spend my time.

Am I the most successful? No.
But what really matters is am I the happiest one ? .... Also no.

On topic though I don't know, purely financially probably the one who is a doctor. Career wise maybe the one who is in advertising and has been consistently getting promoted for the past few years and now got an offer to go work in New York (which is big commimg from an unremarkable advertising school in South America)

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!
When we were teens our friend, let's call him Jim, was broke as a joke. Extremely poor family, they even had their own livestock in their backyard in a suburb.

He decided to drop out of high school and work for the local electric company. Got a bunch of certifications and was a foreman by age 23. Twenty fucking three.

Last I checked, he owned two condos on the beach and was earning around $200K USD while only working six or seven months out of the year.

We are all doing about the same.

Off the top of my head, the professions my friends have are:

Pest control company supervisor
Cell phone store manager
Auto parts store manager
Grocery store manager
Apartment complex leasing office manager
Project manager
Head chef at a chain restaurant
Chain restaurant manager

So pretty much everyone makes high 5-figures. I may be doing the best because my wife makes six-figures and some of my friends' wives either don't work or have lower-paying jobs.

I have met some people outside of my high school/college friend group who are doing very well financially, which is always kind of a shock. One guy on my pool league team is a high school dropout and multi-millionaire. He started working for a construction company in his late teens and after about 10 years the owner retired and let him take over and now it's booming. Both of my wife's sisters make mega bucks and one of my brother-in-laws is the CEO of a medical device company.

Sorry to hear that. I would love to be able to be finaniclally comfortable so I don't have to work but that is a long way off, I have a young family and a good job that gives me enough income to spend on most things that I want. I am not a greedy person.

My Dad was in the military and his legs are screwed up as well so I know how tough that must be. Hopefully you are not in too much pain sincerely.

Most of my friends are engineers. Most are making above 120,000. A few have multiple properties which they rent out for supplemental income.

Then there is me. I work in logistics making about 60k.

I have a lawyer friend. I have a club owner friend. Both are pretty damn rich but I wouldn’t call them successful. Major issues going on in their lives. Divorce, drugs, losing their children etc. My most successful friends are the ones living the simple life. Got a decent place to live, good looking wives and healthy children. Going on vacation here and there etc. Not too many people in this world can handle earning a lot of money from my experience. The ones that can live simple to boring lives with not much hobbies. It’s all about the balance

Yeah at least I know I tried. And I would not go back even if I could. Hope I can do another try in the future .

Also, I agree this thread makes you compare against others, and thats never good.

Think this as a path you choose and if you had not you would be constantly thinking what if I had chosen that path! :)

We are all relatively similar in our standard of living. None of my friends have a yacht or penthouses for example.

I have some Batchelor friends who are practically hermits so they might be sitting on a stack of cash but you would never know. Not sure how happy they really are though.

Some other married/no kids friends with a better quality of life with frequent trips even if they might make less.

The family men have the usual stresses but none of us have been divorced so there is that. The one guy I know well getting divorced is going through hell for his kids, shit is no joke.

I am aquaintences with some folks who make REAL money, like apartment overlooking central Park money, and they still poop like the rest of us :p

I'll put it this way.

I have a medical specialty, I am part of the labors' union of a very important Institute in my country, I risked my life in the Covid-19 pandemic and they gave me recognition for my work.

My job is stable, soon I will do a master's degree and a doctorate just for fun.

Unlike "Friends", one ended up involved in drugs, another partner ended up being a trailer driver, another ended up in jail, another stopped studying at the university.

Of course, the jobs are respectful, but it's a shame that many of their parents paid them expensive schools to end up in those jobs.
You sound like you are doing really well.

I think all my friends are doing ok in their own right and I’m proud of them all.
