Who is your favorite Spider-man Villain (and why)?

Venom is my favorite. I don't like Osborn his real persona is boring and his villain one is basically a worse version of the joker.

The symbiotes are my favourite. Basically evil/crazy versions of Spiderman.

Was always a fan of Kraven the Hunter and Morbius. The former is just a great tactician and fighter, whereas there's the latter's internal conflict fascinates me.

I think Doctor Octopus has the best character development I've seen from Spidey's rogues, but I also love Gobby, Shocker, the symbiotes, Scorpion, Morlun, Mysterio etc.

I adore Jack O' Lantern but like him more as a Venom villain.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Spider-man has the best rogue gallery for an individual hero from Marvel. If you count groups then X-men's is WAY better, and Fantastic Four as well (they have Galactus).

But yeah, this thread shows how much better Spidey's villains are than the embarrassing roster of baddies that makes up Cap's rogue gallery. Doc Oc, Kingpin and Venom are probably top 3.

No this is Embarassing. Cap has a fantastic Rogues Gallery. Not as good as Spidey but easily second best Rogues in Marvel.

them's fighting words, chump.

Seriously though, I made the Cap rogue's gallery thread because I like to highlight villains, arcs, and characters that fall under the radar. Most people that tend to chime in are only familiar with who they saw on saturday morning cartoons, which is a damn shame.

If I were to chime in on a thread like this, I'd lean towards lower tier but compelling characters like the superior foes:

Which took Spidey's D-list and turned them all into compelling and hilarious anti-protagonists.

I mean, you might remember Carnage from the cartoon after school, but as an actual villain, casady is awful. Yet look how many people are listing him

Carnage Sucked to begin with and got progressively worse.

I tend to agree. He was born out of the whole extreme 90s nonsense and sort of embodies everything wrong with that time period. I thought we were finally done with him when sentry just said "fuck THIS thing"

but no, he inexplicably popped up yet again.

None of Spidey's villains are that great to me, but at least Venom gets by on being a deranged version of Spidey.

The issue here is that venom's popularity ended up giving us too much of a good thing. At one point there were what, a dozen symbiotes around here and there? The "Agent Venom" storyline where Flash Thompson is now Venom (and no longer deranged) is the best thing they've done with him in quite some time.

And spidey has lots of great villains, your problem is exposure.

JJJ.
Yes he's a villain, he paid Smythe to build his anti-spider-robot-things.
For "real" villains, I can only consider the classic ones (mostly Doc Ock, Lizard and Green Goblin). Can't even tell why, or even what their motivations were in the comics.
For some reason I thought the Shocker was cool. I can't even remember of a story where he would appear, though.

The Vulture was always my favorite before they made young. This old man facing his mortality facing off against the young hero who was always an interesting dynamic and I always loved the aerial battles they had. I'm also a huge fan of Morbius but moreso after he became a good guy.

Hobgoblin is the best free. They took everything bad about the Green Goblin and removed it to make a far better villian. Plus gotta love Mark Hammil's Hobgoblin.

I personally like Osborn and Doc Ock.

I can't believe Mysterio managed to fuck up Daredevil's life, though.
He tricked Matt Murdock's girlfriend into thinking she had AIDS, then hired Bullseye to go after Daredevil and Bullseye kills the girlfriend.

Black Tarantula. He is to Spiderman what Spiderman is to a normal human. Dude was a force of nature. Plus he was smart and pragmatic. Only reason he never killed Spiderman is because he saw Spiderman had honor and integrity.

I collected spider-man comics during the Black Tarantula era. He was an interesting villain, but way too powerful for spider-man's regular rogues gallery.

---

I'd say my favourite villains are Electro and Venom. Electro just because I think lightining manipulation is a cool super power. And with Venom I like his origin story; starting out essentially as a new weapon that enhanced spider-man's powers, but was rejected after awhile for being too dangerous. And then later bonding with one of spider-man's enemies to get revenge for being abandoned.

Green Goblin 1 and Hobgoblin 1

I like most of the classic Spidey villains, but I always found that the Green Goblin (Norman) was his most dangerous who got under Parker's skin pysochologically.

During the 80s, Hobgoblin made a big splash on the scene and graced the Amazing Spider-Man with some of the best covers

They also had a lot of mook, one off villians

Probably Venom for me - I just wish they'd actually give him a primary role in one of the movies eventually (not the weird treatment he got in #3).

At least original Eddie Venom.

What does he have other than a good design?
Sweet fuck all.

Norman Osborn for sure. I really liked the angle the first Spider-man movie took with him and made him into a kind of anti-Uncle Ben. I think that's kind of what makes him the best arch-nemesis for him--he's the negative father figure.

Venom and Monster Ock have been my favorites. Venom is just awesome and can be incredibly scary. And Monster Ock is just Carnage-Doc Ock, which is awesome.

Wutttt

- Knowledge of Spider-Man's secret identity (and well, whole life) allowing him to invade his most intimate moments
- All of Spiderman's powers, to a greater degree, and all of the symbiote's powers

I really wish The Spectacular Spider-Man got a third season so we could have gotten a proper Hobgoblin adaptation. His 616 origins are a damn mess and we've never gotten an adaptation attempt in anything that could distill it more cleanly and do it better. Which is unfortunate because I think there's a good story in there, somewhere, it's just lost in the mess that his story became.

Venom was only good in the early 300s of the Amazing Spider-Man, but then got ruined by Carnage, I thought Carnage was over-done and the Symbiote crazy of Separation Anxiety got me tired of Symbiotes alltogether.

Clone Saga, now that is what killed comics for me, never looks back since

Once they started with the fangs and tongue, Venom got garbage.
