I am fairly certain I have whooping cough after checking out a few websites on the matter. I have had it for about 3 weeks now and was wondering if anyone else has had it? How long did it take you to get over it? Apparently antibiotics dont work on it so I am thinking I'm not going to bother with a visit to the doctor.

I got it last year. It lasted about 3 months but after the first 2 weeks wasn't all that bad. Just some coughing fits in the morning and at night with some shortness of breath daily. Drugs were useless for me. Lotsa green tea.

-jinx- thought he had it awhile ago and made a pretty good post about it I think. snow big deal.

My two younger brothers had this when they were young. Best way to prevent it is to not stay out on cold nights/days. If you start to get it, stand in the bathroom and turn the hot water on so the steam helps your lungs.

Yeah, i had it surrounding Christmas and into the new year. It lasted a good three weeks. Then a couple weeks later, i hugged a coworker of mine who was sick (i didn't know at the time), and the next day, i've got it again. My head's still stuffed up a bit, and the cough hits at the oddest times, but i'm otherwise okay.

There really isn't a good way to distinguish it from bronchitis, until you try antibiotics and they fail. However, taking antibiotics anyway is a good thing since they will keep it from being contagious to others.

When I had it -- or least what I'm convinced was it -- I was sick for well over two months, and was prone to coughing for at least another month after that. It's serious stuff, and in retrospect, I lucked out by not REALLY getting sick by trying to fight through it and do normal stuff.

It's probably worth being checked out.

No, but someone in my school has it and they sent home a letter to parents notifying that a student has it. Been the discussion around the school all day today

Sucks, Hamburglar. I got it on Thanksgiving, and had it until the first week of January. Took antibiotics (during the second week), and then cough syrup. Nothing worked (well, the cough syrup distanced the time between coughing fits) and it simply left my system.

Don't get near me man, I am sorry and everything, but you come near me, you are getting shot...

The main reason being that I was allergic to the immunizations, so I never finished my cycle with the whooping cough, but I heard that the vaccinations are actually bullshit, and that you can come down with it like 10 years after the fact. Can anybody confirm that?

I was under the impression that whooping cough wasn't something that occured in industrialized nations. Sort of like small pox, the plague and leprosy. I kind of want to walk around with a little mask over my face now like when they had that SARS deal in Asia. Lest I come down with some disease I didn't think I had to worry about.

The immunizations work just fine. However, like many other types of vaccinations, they are only effective for a certain period of time. Some percentage of adults who were immunized as kids are now resusceptible to the disease, so it's making a bit of a comeback.
