Why are you married? ( particularly for those not interested in children )

People actually use “Chad” seriously?

And at 53 years old no less

Just think if you don't want any children you are literally gone from the face of the earth forever.
It is the end.
Not really? You can trace everyone back to the same source if you go far enough back. Whether you look at it from a scientific, religious or alien seeding point of view we are all connected.

Happily married for 16 years, our sex life has never been better and we strengthen one another. Tomorrow doesn’t matter, only today. And we are good today.

Little background on what informs my perspective. I’m 53, divorced with a son entering his senior year of high school. I always wanted a family and thought I had found the right person, but people change. She’s still a good mom and good person but she went left, and I went right. In the Maryland/DC area there aren’t a lot of conservatives so that alone is kind of radical to many here.

I would have probably been classified as a Chad most of my youth, tall, fit square jaw, relatively handsome so I got a lot of attention from women throughout my youth and even today. I’ve just never found it that difficult to find sex partners if I was pressed, or a more serious couple type thing.

I guess given the information about divorce rates, the modern world, I can see getting married if you want a family, it’s the best path forward for that imo. But there’s also a lot of people I know that have long term marriages that never intended to have children. I guess as a male, I could understand if it was harder for whatever reason for you to meet women, and there may be some of well, this one seems to like me lol. Men are a lot more romantic than women in my experience. There are people I like and respect on here that are married not intending to have families, what made you make that decision?
My wife and I are both two extreme conservatives but she defers to me on all political decisions like who to vote for. Prevents that kind of issue completely. I'm married cause we support each other, both physically and emotionally. Yeah we have our kids and we love them immensely, but one day they'll leave the nest and then we'll only have each other every day. We enjoy each other's company and every now and then my mom takes the kids, and we get to spend a few days just being together. It's great. I keep trying to tell her I'm gay but she doesn't believe me. Fuck.

I meant when the other person visits the hospital for various reasons (accident, scheduled operation etc.). Thankfully we didn't have any visits to the hospital so I can't say how strict the doctors and the nurses are about keeping it confidential from non-relatives. It's likely GDPR related on top of the patient-doctor confindentiality.

I should mention there are no partnership laws in my country, even for heterosexual couples. It's either being married or not being recognized by the law as a couple. I really don't like how conservative we are with many things.

Ah gotcha, so if she has an accident and you go to the hospital they won't tell you what her condition is or let you see her unless you're married to her?

Where do you live by the way?

We do have kids, so it helps a lot with that, but we were married before them. It definitely helps on that front though.

We lived together for 2 years before getting married, but I'm military and we were in Germany, she (Japanese) was riding Visas which worked well for a while but at some point it was time to just get her dependent status. Then I had to get her green card at some point since I got reassigned to the US (DC). Obviously a lot easier. Also, being military being married has financial benefits such as higher housing allowances, and she can ride my medical insurance at no cost.

Because I love my wife and want to see her every day. She comes from a traditional culture that doesn't allow cohabitation before marriage. So in order to live together you have to marry.

My wife was still married when we met. Divorces take time and he had moved out already. Maybe it was the taboo of it all? We got married 8 months later. I’ve always been the type who enjoyed change when the change is good for me. We do have kiddos, but that wasn’t a huge deal.

I think, considering you let something as elective as politics pollute and ultimately dissolve a lifelong commitment you made to someone who would have got along fine without you, there was probably more wrong with your relationship than just that... Maybe you didn't deserve the privilege of demanding so much attention from another human - maybe you both unconsciously came to realise that.

I'm getting married because my parents got married and they did a great job of it. My family are civil servants so we don't fall for political bullshit - got a finely honed bullshitometer tho. (We're progressives, not liberals, I would take reuters and the ap et al over cnn, fox news, etc, any day)

Again and again, your posts are consistently filled with assumptions.

As far as we know, for the most of human history, we were hunters/gatherers.
No birth control pills, high infant mortality, lots of people dying from diseases, wars.
Colossal gap in parental investment with women knocked out for about a year, but men being eager to impregnate hundreds of women.

This inevitably shaped how human relationships work.

Men are "more romantic" in the sense of not having grave concerns like "what if this asshole dumps me, when I'm pregnant", no such concerns on male side: no need in committed female partner to survive.

:O

You take that back!

I’m sorry, I really do think they suck. Plus that guy is half bald, so I’m never really thrilled to be compared to some guy that imo is a lesser specimen than myself. Not to mention his name sounds straight from gay porn.

We don't want kids and just got married few months ago after 12 years together (I am 31).
There was no other option. She is an obvious choice and I just feel good around her and would probably not be with anyone else. No nagging, no problems. Plenty of time for our own hobbies. No forced bullshit. Maybe I got lucky

I want to find one of those women who spends all of our money on her hair, nails, shoes and clothes. The kind who wants to go and eat at restaurants multiple times per week.

The kind who will watch 4 hours of reality TV and network sitcoms every day and then tell you that your hobbies are childish and you need to grow up. The kind who demands you do all the weekend things she wants to do but then tells you that the one time per year you want to hang out with your guy friends that she will use sex against you as a weapon if you make that choice.

And when I find that, I want to sign legal documents that protect the shit out of her and cause me to live in a one-bedroom studio apartment while working 2 jobs to continue sending money to her while she lives in the house I also paid for the second that she feels like she wants something else.

I got married for the companionship, but ended up having kids. I married her bc she was my best friend. People who are married look back (as do I sometimes) at the freedom they used to have and a lot of that is through rose-tinted glasses because you see a lot of single (free) people out there who are depressed and lonely, despite being able to do whatever they want, whenever they want. Dating generally sucks and it's nice to have someone you can be intimate with and just be yourself.

Yeah I don’t date and I’m not looking. I can imagine it would suck to be single if you didn’t want to be alone. It’s don’t actually think single life is any better really, just a lot less risk. One family court hit is all I can deal with in this life.

That’s great, glad it works out. On the flip side when you build your entire social/life/intimacy needs around one person it tends to wreck them when they split. I mean this as no disrespect, but I tend to think couples like this the man usually has trouble meeting women, because he’s essentially offering everything for very little in return. Why invite the state in?

What is your goal?
I’m building a house and a separate garage/studio where I can do my refinishing and art and try to push to be one of the best at what I do. I’ve done everything sexually I ever wanted to try, been with all types of women. Would only consider bringing a woman in if she complimented my life and had zero demands, and that ain’t happening 😂

They're out there. I've met 'em.

I’ve reached that level where the puss no longer has influence over how I move.
Do you think sex and sex-related pursuits hamper your art?

Poland, we can be very conservative when it comes to a family stereotype, marriage and same-sex relationships, because the catholic church still has a lot of influence over the people and the government.

No not happy really, more just satisfied that I’m working towards a goal.

I’m sure they’re out there, at my age not really though. Lot of baggage and debt.

I don’t think sex really effects the creative process or the work for me. I look at sex like happiness, I’ll take it, but that’s not a concern really.

I'd argue that satisfaction is a subset of happiness, but that's another conversation. I'm glad you have stuff you're good at that you like to do.

Who says they gotta be your age? lol

Young women getting with older men want security. They won’t get that with me and they know that. I will ruthlessly smash and dash though 👍

There's all kinds, but I guess it depends on your local culture. In my observation, you can go for the 20-something who embraces hookup culture, or the late 30s+ older woman who is divorced, may or may not already have kids, doesn't want to get married again, and just wants to fuck. They're quite common, IMO. The problem is taking the effort to connect with them and get to know them well enough to the point where you know that's what they're after and you're both on the same page.

Yeah that’s out there, but I’d have to put effort in. It’s a waste of time.

Fair enough. Your priorities are what they are. If you curate your exposure and clout well vis a vis your art and skills, they'll eventually come to you on their own anyway.

The nice thing about being old is that you still have a sex drive, but you learn to govern it. But yeah I’m sure if I were super successful I’d have my pick of gold digging whores lol.

If my marriage ever ends (going on 15+ years here), I sure as hell wouldn't remarry. Wouldn't mind just living on my own and doing my own thing.
